While I may be as troubled as many by the Dutch Justice Minister writing that the Netherlands could eventually end up being governed by Sharia Law, unfortunately, it shouldn't be that hard to imagine in any democracy, including the United States.
As I pointed out in CAIR and Ibrahim Hooper: The Domination Agenda, several Muslim groups, including those in America, have made their agenda quite clear.
From the Islamic Center of America website:
The small jihad is over and now remains the greater jihad; we have finished off with the smaller challenge so thankfully we can move onto our larger challenge which is to establish the roots of moderate and open minded Islam in a pluralistic society such as the United States.
If you read down into the rhetoric, as I did at first link above, you'll see that while talking moderation, they mean it more in the sense of the path to power, not that they are willing to concede Sharia is not the highest form of law, including for the State.
The following statement is attributed to Omar M. Ahmad, a co-founder of CAIR.
"If you choose to live here (in America) ... you have a responsibility to deliver the message of Islam," he said.... Islam isn't in America to be equal to any other faith, but to become dominant, he said. The Koran, the Muslim book of scripture, should be the highest authority in America, and Islam the only accepted religion on Earth, he said.
By the time you finish analyzing birth and immigration rates among components of the American population, some insist it is only a function of time. Without a clearly reformed, or American Muslim Church of some sort dedicated to establishing itself within secular states, being a democracy absolutely presents the risk highlighted below. Michelle Malkin has an extended entry on the development.
AMSTERDAM — Dutch Justice Minister Piet Hein Donner has provoked an angry response by stating it has to be possible for Sharia Law to be introduced in the Netherlands via democratic means.
The Christian Democrat (CDA) minister made the suggestion during an interview for the book 'Het land van haat en nijd' (the land of hate and malice) which was published on Wednesday.
Donner indicated he was not happy with the tone of the integration debate in the Netherlands.
Muslims, he said, just like Protestants and Roman Catholics, have a right to the perceptions of their religion, even if that included dissenting rules of behaviour such as imams refusing to shake hands with women.
He went on to say: "It must be possible for Muslim groups to come to power [in the Netherlands] via democratic means. Every citizen may argue why the law should be changed, as long as he sticks to the law.

The west should stop bending over with all it's political correctness.-..." It must be possible for Muslim groups to come to power [in the Netherlands] via democratic means."...- Sure as soon as westerns can come to power in muslim lands. Any chance of a Protestant or Roman Catholic white male becoming the ruler of Egypt, Saudia Arabia....or even China, Venezula... for that matter. We need new rules for the new global world.

While what he is saying is technically correct...just like it is technically correct that if we made it legal to pull off the fingernailes of detainees then it wouldn't be torture his comments are brutally stupid and seem to be made just for the sake of being PC.
Rather than saying that sure, okay, if enough Muslims come to power in Holland than Sharia could be instituted, why not talk about how ridicilous a concept it was and talk about something PRODUCTIVE...like yes, religious tolerance is important, but it is also important that immigrants ASSIMILATE to the cultures they are moving to, e.g. if you want the Sharia laws in force then stay in f***g Pakistan, because that ain't going to fly in the Western Europe.

Now more than ever, we need to pass some form of Constituion in every European country to protect ourselves, so it is a constitutional right to shake womens hands ... if we make sure most of what they try to remove is constitutionally given, they couldn't remove it.

you forget to mention that 2/3 of the population does not agree with Donner, and he will feel that when the elections come.

I think migrants, long term visitors and probably even business visitors and tourists entering democratic countries should have to state their acceptance of congress/parliment as a legitimate source of laws governing their behaviour while in the country.
Many extreme muslims do not accept this, saying sharia is the only legitimate law. Keeping some of those people out keeps the rest of the country safer.
This is not a demand for 'assilimation' it's a demand to accept our system of democratic law.
