lgf links a response from the AP to this post regarding Bilal Hussein. They state that Salvatore Santoro was already dead when the images were taken. Apparently Bilal Hussein didn't see a civilian being executed, he simply visited later so terrorists could prop the body up for his camera. My mistake. But I have found another item as regards Bilal Hussein.
There are several unpleasant images on this page, some taken by Bilal Hussein. They cause me to wonder just how objective a source was Bilal Hussein. An apparently false story of the US military firing into a mosque near Ramadi was circulated in August of 2005. It looks as though Hussein was one of the sources for the report. The AP later corrected his captions - see below and at first link above.
It at least possible that a mosque was bombed by insurgents and local, in the know, objective photo-journalist Bilal Hussein may have had a role in circulating the false story that the injuries were the result of a US attack.
An Associated Press photographer at the Ramadi General Hospital saw at least three children with serious wounds being treated, including one who appeared to be in shock. One young boy had suffered a head wound.
** CORRECTS ARTILLERY SHELL TO EXPLOSION ** An Iraqi boy receives treatment for head wounds he received in an explosion at a mosque, Friday Aug. 12, 2005, in Al-Nasaf, 25 kms. (15 miles) east of Ramadi, central Iraq. Locals claim that during Friday prayers an artillery shell was fired into the Ibn Al-Jawzi Mosque killing 4 and injuring at least 19, of which 3 dead were children. Iraqis blamed U.S. forces, but an American military spokesman disputed the Iraqi account. (AP Photo/Bilal Hussein)
