Utterly Disgusting Response To Journo Kidnapping
h/t to Michelle Malkin who is initiating a blog burst on behalf of kidnapped journalists Steve Centanni and Olaf Wiig.
This is, not only sick, it is incredibly stupid.
From BOB LAURENCE, TV critic, San Diego Union-Tribune: I'd like to offer a couple of possible reasons for the lack of attention given to the kidnapping of the two guys from Fox:
One is that, sadly, they are far from the first to be kidnapped, injured or killed. They are, alas, only the most recent two of many. The kidnapping or targeting of journalists in Iraq isn't the story it once was.
Excuse me? Is that from a media critic of the same media who cannot keep itself from counting up the American and Iraqi war dead, one by one over years, making it always as big a story as it can? What of the car bombers in Iraq? Surely none of that is really news anymore given Laurence's standard of news-worthiness, yes?
No, of course not. Anything that bolsters the MSM's continued desire to run down the Iraq War as failed, as another Vietnam, well, that never gets to be old hat, or hardly worth the mentioning. What an absolutely stupid rationale.
Ten years after the murder of Jon Benet Ramsey and that's all the majority of MSM news outlets have been obsessing about. Forget that Iran attacked and took over an oil rig in the Strait of Hormuz, happens everyday. But give us a pervert flying in first class from Thailand and we'll be all over that.
Laurence reveals what is likely the real motivation of the media, jealousy and the fact that Fox, for all of its sometime evening silliness, actually has set the standard for fair and balanced in the media. The only network I'm aware of them ever bickering with is CNN. And frankly, fewer people care about CNN than watch it these days.
Either way, bringing such petty motivations into something like this is one of the most revealing displays of smallness of heart and mind I've ever seen. One can only imagine what a truly sad, self-satisfied, yet genuinely pathetic creature the individual who wrote this really is. If you ever meet him, be sure to wash your hands.
Second, Fox has deliberately set itself apart from other news media. Starting at the top with Roger Ailes, the Fox sales pitch has been to deride other media, to declare itself the one source of the real truth, the sole source of 'fair and accurate' news reporting. As a result, there's not a reservoir of kinship or good will with Fox on the part of the rest of the news media. You can't keep insulting people and then expect friendship when you need it.
They've made it a policy to keep a distance between themselves and the rest of the media, far beyond the usual competitive spirit, so that's where they are: at a distance.

I just sent this idiot an email. I was fair and balanced and even wished this imbecile well. But he is sick in a way that only afflicts insane people.

Clueless in more ways than one:
"The kidnapping or targeting of journalists in Iraq isn't the story it once was."
Excuse me? Centanni and Wiig were kidnapped in _Gaza_, not Iraq.

I'm so sick of the liberal ink getting the face time, anyone else want to join me with a Roman feast feather?
*Dan you need similes (as in emoticons) on here.
I would use the
(barf) one.

"You can't keep insulting people and then expect friendship when you need it."
Perverted thinking. Since when does it require 'friendship' to mourn the kidnapping of Americans? This ass substitutes friendship for 'humanity'; then, in very twisted logic, claims FOX distancing itself from other media, no doubt part of its success, is why they don't have any friends. Envy couched in such asinine, childish terms is repulsive. It would be laughable if it weren't so sick.

ahem, I'm gonna take the opposite view for a while. I sense "issue fatigue" on the subject of kidnapped journalists. Not that today's hacks are any lesser than yesterday's or anything, but because there's only so much public attention to go around, and, well, the public already gave at the office on this issue.
Yes, these are Fox guys, which is different from the "il Manifesto" communist [insert alliterative rhyme with 'runt'], or the adorable Jill Carroll; this was in Gaza, not Iraq, so that is again different. By this time, the story can write itself, though. Use a template.
"[insert location], AP
Journalist [fill in name] and [associate's name] were kidnapped today by members of [group] operating in the troubled region of [area]. {In addition [name] was killed}."

rwilymz,
You're right. I think what makes this kidnapping choke us a bit more is the kind of specious drivel that is written about it - such as the above. The facts, as you've stated, remain the same. The reaction to it is what is repulsive because it is cheap. <--- I wish I had a more definitive word, but 'cheap' seems to cover it all except the rage of its use.

Hello unholy jihad kindergarten club:
In reference to the above post by "OR", I agree! Great comment OR! Now that Steve Centanni and Olaf Wiig have been released, we can now follow you and get you. Oh, yes! Steve and Olaf planted two miniature GPS locater/audio transceivers with you and in the garage. So, you stinking ignorant little worshipers of a pedophile-we are going to covertly kidnap you guys. When we get finished cutting off your "little mohammads", and have a bit more fun with sharp objects, we are going to bury you alive with a pig. Watch you back jack!
