Michelle Malkin points out that the Times has published:

maps and specific street names and photographs of the private (not anymore) homes where the Vice President and Defense Secretary and their families spend their vacations?

I don't know, is it such a big deal? I can't imagine NY Times Publisher Arthur O. "Pinch" Sulzberger would mind someone pointing out that a search for his name can give you:

I couldn't agree more. What's the big deal? If you were able to find Sulzberger's addresses and a satellite photo on a simple Internet search, what exactly is the Times revealing that everybody doesn't already know or could know with almost no effort? The article even says that real estate agents in St. Michaels used the fact that Cheney and Rumsfeld et al. have homes there as a selling point.

Also, after having read the article twice, I cannot find the maps that Michelle Malkin claims the Times published. The "specific street names" are available at Barnes & Noble or the library, and they're not addresses; they're street names. I'm sorry, I don't get the outrage over this.

For example: Newsmax, Forbes, International Herald Tribune, Washington Post, Boston Globe, Salon, General Aviation News and many others. Just do a google search of Rumsfeld's house, which is called Mount Misery, and you'll get lots of hits. The same goes for Cheney's $2.9 million weekend home, which is called Ballintober. Or you could drop by St. Michael's Carpenter Street Saloon, where you can not only learn where Rumsfeld and Cheney live, but you might even see them in the saloon. Both homes are in the public domain and they're heavily protected by the Secret Service.

The article doesn't have either home's address - you posted earlier that it did but you were, uh, distorting the article. If you really want it, you can find the address via Google along with a number of pictures of Cheney's propery, a map to it, satellite pictures, etc. I doubt anyone is going to randomly drive around the country when they can simply spend a few minutes with Google and get the exact info. It's not even that they showed a picture of the front of some historic old home in some quiet hamlet on the shores of Chesapeake Bay.

It's that they described the way to get this home, what the front of the place looks like, and identified the picture as the front entrance to Rumsfeld's home.

A name of a veteran means nothing by itself.

A SSN -- by itself -- is just 9 random digits.

But when you put the two together, and identify those nine digits as a SSN, then you have made someone subject to credit fraud -- and violated the law.
