That's probably wishful thinking. Hamas seems to be ready to deal and will likely present an offer to Condi Rice.
All groups in Gaza, including Hamas, would now accept a cease-fire deal with Israel which would include releasing Gilad Shalit, according to the Palestinian Agriculture Minister, who also heads the coordinating committee of Palestinian organizations there.
No doubt their incredible reasonableness in the face of Israel's aggression will win broad support at the UN and around the world, as well as on the Left in America. Never mind the fact that if they are getting ready to deal it's because they are getting their asses kicked and hope to live to fight another day. Hamas and Hezbollah have made their long term intentions clear. They want to eradicate Israel, not compromise and live in peace with some two state solution.
Wars are not won by failing to prosecute them to a genuine conclusion and terrorist groups do not deal unless it is in their best interests. Unfortunately, I doubt that little bit of nuance will make it into the general political discussion. Why fight a war today you can put off to another day when your enemy is once again stronger and perhaps more devious.
If I had my druthers, I'd like to see Israel continue until they crushed both Hamas and Hezbollah. They are not political entities. They are militaristic religious zealots who came to realize whatever political power they presently enjoy through force of arms, terror and intimidation. The next few decades would be a great deal better if we rid the planet of this particular brand of vermin now while we have the chance, instead of waiting for the next opportunity - after we've once again paid a significant price through some terrorist act.
The Democrats are looking to filibuster the best thing that's happened to the UN in years - John Bolton. That tells you all you need to know about their resolve to make this a better world, no matter what it takes.
Still great links to follow the war news: Pajamas Media, or read a few regional blogs. I like to check the JP headlines, as well.

As proven in the past, neither Hamas or Helbollah are capable of honoring any agreement brokered by any Nation (s) or the UN. Period.
Until UN Resoultion 1559 is met with full and complete compliance, there can be no basis for a cessation of Israel`s Defense of it`s People. Period.
Any Peacekeeping force sent to enforce UN Resolution 1559 must be of robust numbers, formidible armament, authority to use same and be both respected and feared by any violators in the region. The UNIFIL force was obviously sent to be a silent witness to a crime. The UN may have well sent the Vatican Guard!
Any efforts at peace making will fail until honest brokers are found within Lebanon and Syria, one the host and the other the support for Hezbollah. So folks, let Israel defend itself while the rest of the world kindly stays the hell out of the way!
Any further lip service from the UN or Iran`s client states only reinforces my case. There are rumors that the Lebanese government was aware of Hezbollahs plans months ago and did nothing to avert the impending events.
In reference to the anecdote I posted earlier..host a pack of wolves...Fear the Hunter!

So, I'm lying in bed watching the War. Fergus is sleeping on his back snoring. I have coffee, cool, luxury all around me. And I'm watching a war on my TV.
~~~~~~~~~~
Shepard what's happening in My Sharona?
You wouldn't believe it. Bombs. Bombs. Bombs. One after another. I got some smoke in my eyes. Jimmy, turn the camera over there......
Rick, what's happening in Tiberius?
Rick?
[Rick rises from beneath the screen. In the background is a hill.]
Boy, that was close. Taschukos all around. They make an eerie noise. We can tell incoming from the outgoing. One whistles and the other hums and thumps....
Stay safe, Rick. Over to you, Jennifer.
These Jews are having a rest by these big tanks. They're playing a card game. These chain things attract fire from hitting the tanks. This device sets off IEDs.
Thank you, Jennifer. Mike? Can you hear us? Mike? Are you there?
Yeah. I'm just getting a signal. IDF soldiers transported an old Lebanese woman to hospital. Doctors there are treating her just like a Jew. Over there you can see a bomb cloud........ hello? New York? I think I lost you...
Mike? Okay... We lost Mike.. Now to DC to General Bilgewater.
General Bilgewater, nice to have you on the show today. How do you see this war panning out?
Wahl, you are welcome. Glad to be with you. Wahl, I see the Israelis...
Oh, so sorry, General. We'll have to get back to you.... we have a hard break coming up.....
[Solemn scenes of war with liturgical music.]
FIND YOURSELF ALONE AND WITHOUT NOTICE? BE THE ADMIRATION OF YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD AND THE ENVY OF ALL YOUR GOLF PALS.
[Group of dumbstruck, really stupid women standing by a pool staring.]
ENZYTE ! ! IT'S FOR YOU. [Smiling dufus climbs out of pool having lost his suit.]
NEWS ALERT ! THE WAR IS STILL GOING ON BETWEEN .........
Civilizations?
Well, that about sums it up Phoenix. I could not have said it better if I had tried all night long. Good going. So sad so true.
If Israel is made to stop this time, it is unlikely, there'll be a next time.
The Hamas offer is a diversion.
Now the world will force a cease-fire.
That is absolute worst thing that could happen. We should drop a demo nuke outside Tehran and 86 the Palace in Damascus tomorrow.
THEN, watch Israel kick ass for a month.
After that ... we'll see about a cease-fire.
I'm dreaming.
We are losing this war.
What's so bad about malls that they should be killed?
Posted by: rwilymz | Tuesday, July 25, 2006 at 08:27 AM
Driving Israel into the sea isn't really a longterm goal. It's midterm. Putting the whole earth under sharia is the long term goal. We need to keep that in front of peoples' noses. Like Malkin wrote last week. It's everybody's problem.
