Well, I suppose you could call it an aggressive negotiation tactic.
ISRAEL last night threatened to assassinate Palestinian Prime Minister Ismael Haniyeh if Hamas militants did not release a captured Israeli soldier unharmed.
The unprecedented warning was delivered to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in a letter as Israel debated a deal offered by Hamas to free Corporal Gilad Shalit. It came as Israeli military officials readied a second invasion force for a huge offensive into Gaza.
Hamas's Gaza-based political leaders, including Mr Haniyeh, had already gone into hiding.
But last night's direct threat to kill Mr Haniyeh, a democratically elected head of state, sharply raised the stakes.
The bid to free Corporal Shalit was brokered by Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, who last night warned Hamas it faced severe consequences if it did not curb its "extreme stance" and described the growing conflict as a lightning rod for Palestinian vengeance.

The roads in gaza are also being ripped up. Even though there are no human casualties, the IDF is taking no chances that the scum could try to move their prisoner.
The other thing to notice is that not only isn't Olmert STOPPING the fly-overs; and the Israeli Navy is adding it's own barages. The noise levels will give these idiots plenty to remember.
AND, if the soldier is dead, which is one reason this hasn't been solved as yet; it's not as if just turning over the kid's corpse will come with a wave buh-bye. Since the killers, themselves, will need to be turned over.
Israel isn't playing Ron Arad. Nor will it allow ham-ass to "try" the perps, the way Arafat used to be given leeway.
Olmert also says there are tools in his arsenal to escalate. He's also not in a position to quit. Quitting would just rob him of his own PM chair. I think he has awareness of this. As done Amir Peretz, whose without much of a following, to go with his inexperience.
And, while the noise is going on, you'll notice not too many photographers are out and about taking pictures of "hordes" of arabs, complaining. It's very under-mobbed. Even in Eygpt and turkey. So, I'm guessing the palis have much less support than they thought. And, soon? Much less money.
Chickens don't lay egg when the walls of their compounds rattle and break down.
On the plus side, the sales of generators are UP. And, arabs are willing to stand in line for their gas(oline), which comes to them doled out and rationed.
Gaza. It used to have beach front property. And, a thriving agriculture business; where even though the EU used to love to put boycotts on Israeli products; they preferred, much more, the delicious, and expensive, fruits and vegetables.
Personally, I can't wait for things to quiet down. For the soldier to be returned. And, for the next kindergarten graduation ceremony these arabs love to hold. Where their moham-heads, and achmeds are dressed up as martyr-fodder, praising what it would be like to explode like a dope. Ya think it may have ramifications, ahead? What the IDF is doing now, just to get back their soldier; ya think the idiots and fools and islamofascists may question something when they're down on the ground, asses in the air, banging their heads for allah fukbar? What would it look like if they just lost interest?
