I Condemn This Post

I agree with Patterico, though I haven't quite gotten round to condemning everything, yet. But I will.

This is disgusting, vile hate speech. I would condemn Confederate Yankee, but luckily I have already pre-condemned everything, making condemnation unnecessary.

To paraphrase learned Constitutional scholar Glenn Greenwald, I don't have the bandwidth to quote him, we cannot accept this blasphemy, treason and eliminationist rhetoric as representative of blogospheric political discourse. Or, something like that.Gglenn

But I like the marketing angle. So, I'm thinking, what better way to take advantage of the current Liberal Blogosphere bonanza of attention we've been hearing about ... mostly from them, than to launch a series of Gay Blogger Boy Toy dolls, so every Liberal commenter can take a likeness of their favorite Liberal Boy Toy blogger home.

According to our Liberal focus groups, we'll need anatomically correct dolls for Gay male Liberals, but not so for the Liberal ladies and feminists - they like their Boy Toys neutered, research has shown.

And of course, you can't offer a Gay male doll without a cat, so we'll also be offering our special Wolcott addition - a charming, though mildly provocative Ocicat.

We may eventually come out with a sort of rag doll model for Conservatives who might like to have one around for a pin cushion - but our Liberal focus group informs us, we should put a hold on the manly bits for that model. You know those always seeking the moral high-ground, overly religious types, no telling what they'll sneak off to the closet to do with a doll that comes with manly bits.

And I condemned this post before I made it, so I'll thank the politically correct not to even bother going there.

Ah, the joys of free speech and the freedom of expression. Nothing like getting attention through the use of controversy, nyet?

This post is so weird I'm not sure what to say about it. However, just for the sake of accuracy, a cat is not an appropriate companion for an Andrew Sullivan "doll". Mr. Sullivan's blog mentions that he has a dog, a beagle to be exact.

Your readers have a right to the truth. next time, look before you leap upon the Right Wing bandwagon. it makes you look like a horse's ass.

My sexual orientation

I've read repeatedly that I'm a closeted homosexual and even that I sued to keep my sexual orientation a secret. And needless to say, a central part of the ad hominem attacks from pro-Bush bloggers has now become a homophobic concentration on such matters.

I've been openly gay for 20 years. Despite the claims that I have tried to hide this and even sued to keep it a secret, the way the investigative geniuses of the right-wing blogosphere "discovered" that I was gay was that my partner and I commenced a lawsuit in 1996 which, among other things, sought a ruling that the "spousal communication" privilege statute in New York -- which bars compelled disclosure of the marital communications between spouses in litigation -- applied equally to gay spousal couples, on the ground that the plain language of the statute compelled that meaning and, alternatively, that it is unconstitutional to deny gay couples the same right heterosexual couples have to not disclose their marital communications in lawsuits. As a result, there are online judicial decisions from that case detailing that we commenced the litigation based upon claims of equivalency between our spousal relationship and those recognized by law.

I just did my multiple-city book tour with my partner on every stop and there are newspaper stories about the book which reference that. I don't believe the state has the right to use its coercive power to promote heterosexual relationships over homosexual ones, and I've consequently done substantial gay rights work in the past, primarily in law school, and there was ample media coverage of some of that work. I don't write much about gay issues because I don't really have a lot to say that I think is particularly unique -- although I have written about gay issues on my blog several times before -- but the last thing I have done is tried to conceal my sexual orientation.

Having said all of that, I have been surprised -- although I probably shouldn't be -- at how quick and pervasive is the attempt to make all sorts of gay slurs when responding to my posts now that they "discovered" these facts. Despite all the lip service that is paid by Bush supporters to not subscribing to anti-gay bigotry, it is striking how widely acceptable those sorts of attacks are.

This Gay Male Doll thing couldda been kinda funny if it made any sense. But I'm a gay guy, with hundreds of gay male friends & acquaintances, and I never have known a single gay guy with a cat. Nor have I known but one gay guy who liked the tacky leather strap gear the picture shows. So I find it impossible to locate the humor, when to me it doesn't seem to be rooted in any kind of truth. For there to be humor, it has to have SOME element of truth to it to exploit. In my experience straight guys are far more likely to have cats and like those bizarre leather strap things.
