David Horowitz responds to critics of his recent blog entry regarding the New York Times.
Today's a terrific Holiday and I hope we all take time to celebrate it away from the news. But while we enjoy our independence, it's important to remember that our independence is something for which we must always continue to fight.
There's always the need to remain vigilant against a government that can over reach - whether it's against our privacy, speech, the 2ND Amendment, taxation, or any number of other areas.
There's also a need for America to remember her, so far, fortunate status as co-operating with the world, yet very much independent of it, at the same time. The bell curve of mediocrity applies to Nations and the world just as sure as it does anything else.
Some would argue America needs to be more like certain factions in the world in terms of rights and freedoms, monetary policy, internal government and International outlook. I'd argue it's important to retain our independence in that regard. A rugged independence, individually and as a Nation, has brought us to the desire-able place we occupy in the world.
We should pause and be tremendously grateful today for the hard fought for Independence Americans that came before us left us as their legacy. But we need also remember that the fight for freedom and Independence continues on.

Amen to that.
