Did you know that, big picture, the earth has been in a cool period for some time? And that it remains so judging by today's average temperature?
As a layperson, I decided to take a look around to see what I could find regarding the earth's temperature situation. I avoided obvious pro and con Global Warming sites. So here goes.
The current average temperature of the earth is said to be 59 degrees. Global warming scientists claim the following:
The average surface temperature of Earth is just below 15°C (59°F). Over the last century, this average has risen by about 0.6 Celsius degree (1 Fahrenheit degree). Scientists predict further warming of 1.4 to 5.8 Celsius degrees (2.5 to 10.4 Fahrenheit degrees) by the year 2100.
Splitting the difference of the 2.5 to 10.4 prediction, I settled at a 6.5 degree rise. Guess what? If we leveled off at that number, or even at the higher number, making the average temperature either 65 or 69 degrees respectively, we'd still be below the temperature this site claims the earth has been at for the majority of its existence.
During the last 2 billion years the Earth's climate has alternated between a frigid "Ice House", like today's world, and a steaming "Hot House", like the world of the dinosaurs. This chart shows how global climate has changed through time.
I realize time and scale factor into this. But the fact is, we have no better means of tracking macro-changes in the Earth's temperature than what geologists apply. And given the trends shown in the graphic below, over time, the unusual occurrence would be if the Earth's temperature didn't continue to climb. Go figure.
The Earth's temperature could rise by 11.5 degrees and it would be precisely where scientists place it for a bulk of Earth's time in existence. Image click-able to enlarge.

Doesn't it just piss you off when reason dictates?

Which goes to show that a billion cows are no match for Apatosaurus in the flatulence department. Dan, did you see the article where the Brit Enviro Minister hypothesized about a future of carbon credits traded like currency at the individual level? Wealth redistribution is what it is ultimately about - they finally have latched onto the nearly ideal vehicle to implement it.

rhodeymark....
hahaha... That is too funny......"Which goes to show that a billion cows are no match for Apatosaurus in the flatulence department."
(I had to rewrite it ..... ha ha ha!)
In other news, Huge Chavez dumps the oil rigs and plants billions of acres of cabbage and broccoli.
