I'm surprised at some of the push back on the recent offer to Iran, as though there was another choice. In the first place, it's a deal Ahmadinejad can't accept and live by. Given previous statements, he would lose face and that's something he absolutely cannot afford to and will not do.
Whether the Left wants to believe it, or not, Bush went to war with Iraq based upon years of sanctions and the flaunting of same. No such precedent exists as regards Iran. It's easy to call for war with Iran, not so much when you have to be the one to order the troops into harm's way, or be the parent of one so ordered. This is a chess game, not a checkers match.
Our intelligence in Iran is not up to speed - but it looks as though we are seeing some real success in creating internal problems for the regime. You should definitely see this at Gateway Pundit.
I don't see this offer as an end game, I doubt the Bush administration does, either. Assuming Iran does accept, we need to cultivate the intelligence required to prove Iran is not playing by the rules - as it most likely won't.
Given recent early testing of new deep penetration explosives, it's silly to think we're ready to take out what we aren't sure exists, let alone our not knowing where it is. What the Iran situation demands right now is time and this was probably the best we could do to buy some.
Now it's Iran's move. But so long as the American government remains in the right hands, if any last move is required, it'll still be ours, or Israels. But it needs to be up to us or Israel to say how and when.
As frustrating as it might be, sometimes patience is the best way to show strength in the end.
Looking at things inside Iran right now is as good a reason as any to play this game out strategically and not try a jump we aren't ready for just to try and crown a king, or a mullah.

I would speculate that a reasonable strategic plan for Iran would be:
* Promote separatist movements in the northwest (ethnic Ahwazis) and separatist movements in the oil-rich southwest (ethnic Arabs). I suppose one could attempt to promote a separatist movement among the Baluchis ethnic group (Sunnis) in the East also but that seems like a long shot.
* Launch a rolling week-long assault on the nation's infastructure (water, power, communicatins, bridges, etc.) in addition to military targets to facilitate a governmental collapse.
* Encourage the Ahwazis in the north and Arabs in the south to announce independant districts followed by USA recognition and imposition of no-fly zones (ala 1990's Iraq). This would secure these districts for further operations.
Not saying this would work but it's a plan. The caveat would be; once Iran is attacked by the USA will the Ahwazis and Arabs rally to defend their country and view the separatists as traitors or will they remain loyal to their ethnic group rather than their nation?
In this post-AbuGharaib world, there is a good chance that all ethnic groups in Iran will rally to defend Islam from the Christian Crusader armies. If so, this plan would fail to break up Iran. But it's a plan and likely one of several currently on the table.

More to the point, did you notice who turned up on the World Stage right on cue, on the 6th of the 6th, 06?
None other than His High Excellency Dr Javier Solana himself, coming as the peace negotiator, and Fox news for one did not seem to understand who he was, at one point describing him as a European Union administrator!!
You have got to be joking.
This guy is just about the most powerful man in the world, and it is all under your noses, as not many have worked out just what this deciever is really up to. He is no friend of the US, don't be fooled. He is an advocate of a One World Government/New World Order Dictatorship. With himself as the guy in control, of course. And he is fast spreading his Empire.
If only the US were not around, he could get rid of that dollar and change it all to euros, and he could then rule the World.
Don't be fooled by the charm. This man is ruthless.
Might I also add, that he got his absolute power under European Union Directive No.666, (he seems to like that number), and he is also the Head of the Ten Nation Western European Alliance, besides being the Head of the European Union, plus many other things he is into. e.g. the Club of Rome, with their eugenic connections.
You are going to see a whole lot more of this indispensible guy. Everybody will be praising him.
Isn't it strange how people make a joke of the number 666, yet this man is no joke.
I can bet you he will turn out to be our worst nightmare!!
