As if big government wasn't bad enough, I can't understand individuals who sound like whining children when the US doesn't buy into the corrupt and nearly worthless United Nations.
Last month President Bush issued a rare apology. "Saying 'Bring it on,' kind of tough talk, you know, that sent the wrong signal," he confessed. "I think in certain parts of the world it was misinterpreted."
Well done, Mr. President, you've understood that bluster can backfire. Now how about sharing this insight with your ambassador to the United Nations?
If annoying elitist commentators like Mallaby have their way, we'll end up precisely as Rear Admiral Chris Parry warns as described in this worthwhile piece.
ONE of Britain’s most senior military strategists has warned that western civilisation faces a threat on a par with the barbarian invasions that destroyed the Roman empire.
In an apocalyptic vision of security dangers, Rear Admiral Chris Parry said future migrations would be comparable to the Goths and Vandals while north African "barbary" pirates could be attacking yachts and beaches in the Mediterranean within 10 years.Europe, including Britain, could be undermined by large immigrant groups with little allegiance to their host countries — a "reverse colonisation" as Parry described it. These groups would stay connected to their homelands by the internet and cheap flights. The idea of assimilation was becoming redundant, he said.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with setting oneself apart, especially when time and experience have proved you've something worth preserving. And it needn't take the form of isolationaism.
Internationally speaking, the one big world liberals appear to have no appreciation for anything, other than the appearance that everyone is getting along, even if it means the world goes to hell in a hand basket. And domestically, they won't stop until America is just another struggling socialist state.

I've been comparing the current state of Western Civ to the last stages of the Roman Empire for 3 years now. The parallels are frightening -- unless you particularly desire the barbarianizing of The West.
A society that becomes "inclusive", as ours is and Rome's did, necessarily equivocates others' society for its own. It's one thing when Roman technology [language, cultural practices, etc] was adapted by non-Roman territories. US and "western" culture is pretty much a worldwide phenomenon. But the "barbarians" of both eras have not completely assimilated to such culture, and insist that they are just as viable an "empire" as Rome, or US/Europe.
Thereupon: barbarian "invasions" and immigration, a.k.a. reverse colonization. Then, because the West is "too enlightened" to impose assimilation upon the new immigrants, they can create sub-societies until their demographic reaches some critical mass [see Frogland's "muslim youth" riots].
I don't know whether Europe's rather homogenous society is at greater risk, or America's historical mutt-ness. Obviously, being successively conquered by wave after wave of invade placed Britain not merely on the linguistic map, but also prepared it for its own export of wold dominion. Britain is certainly used to accomodating invaders from disparate cultures -- over the period of generations. Perhaps America's own history of accomodating and nearly immediately utilizing huge waves of immigrants with our own identity largely intact will help us survive what strategic planners are predicting.
But in the meantime, imposing assimilation isn't a bad way to go.

Regarding the UK, we are at the mercy of this ever spreading European Union.
We have recently added another ten eastern european poor countries, with all of them having the rights to come and settle here in the UK.
Now we have Bulgaria and Romania wishing to join, and they have their own criminal elements which apparently are going to be cleaned up before they are allowed to join. The leader of Bulgaria says this will take a few months to do!! As if!!
But don't worry world, you can all join, and all come and live here in UK.
It doesn't matter that it is just about standing room only at the moment, and we are fast running out of water in London.
We'll just get out of the way for you, and you can come and take over, just like the obliging idiots that we are!!!
