More On Ziad Khalaf Raja al-Karbouly
Update: Along with what's below, be sure and see HotAir for more on a second possible snitch.
The fellow alleged to have ratted out Zarqawi is something of a TV star in Jordan. But something is definitely up. Why would Jordan announce this guy to the world two weeks before we took out Zarqawi? If he was the rat, it makes no sense. You'd think Zarqawi would burn any safe houses he knew about. Could it be that was part of the plan? Now they are buring this guy to protect a genuine source?
Joran has also given two versions of his capture. This has to be a little spy vs. spy. Only a total of 200 plus hits in Google - only 90 in news. Some of the original stories are only left in Google cache and the oldest link is from a blog.
AMMAN, Jordan - An Iraqi government contractor confessed on Jordanian television to kidnapping and killing on the orders of al-Qaida in Iraq before he was lured to Jordan and arrested.
The man, identified as Ziad Khalaf Raja al-Karbouly, said that he had kidnapped two Moroccan embassy employees and an Iraqi finance ministry official under direct orders from the terror group and its leader, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi.
He was in the WaPo two weeks ago. That's interesting.
AMMAN, Jordan -- Jordan said this week that it struck al-Qaida in Iraq a blow by arresting one of its top militants, but a statement Wednesday claiming to be from the terrorist network said that the group did not know the man.
Questions also remain as to when and where the Iraqi man, who identified himself as Ziad Khalaf Raja al-Karbouly, was arrested.
And the Jordanians have already changed their story on this guy once.
Initially, Jordanian officials said an elite anti-terrorism force captured Ziad Khalaf Raja al-Karbouly in Iraq. Later though, they changed their story, saying he was lured to the kingdom to face arrest.
In a confession aired on prime-time television in Jordan Tuesday, al-Karbouly said he was a member of al-Qaida in Iraq, and that its leader, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, knew details of his operations to kill and kidnap Arabs traveling between Iraq and Jordan. But the militant group denied even knowing him, in a statement posted on an Islamic Web site Wednesday.
Check out Google on the guy.
