There's an archived post at MyDD entitled Kos and Jerome's pro-labor bias I'll excerpt and also clean up the language:
I've read the 1st half of "crashing the gate", and I think Jerome's and Markos's treatment of the "issue groups" is, in some places, spot-on. However, their pro-labor bias is apparent. ... In contrast, after talking about labor's failures, they soft-footed the issue, and didn't have the same conclusion... The implication there was... pro-choicers and environmentalists... shut the xxxx up, hold your nose, and vote for Democrats no matter what... That's what is best for you... Labor, improve your communication skills and lead the way.
Obviously that pro-labor bias post means at the expense of other groups on the Left, as opposed to Management vs. Labor. But why would Crashing the Gates be so pro-labor? Hmm?
You'll get over a quarter million hits if you Google Kos and SEIU (Service Employees International Union). If you aren't up on labor issues, the SEIU split from the AFL-CIO in 2005.
The Service Employees International Union (SEIU), which with 1.8 million members was the largest and fastest growing union in the AFL-CIO, has officially disaffiliated from the national federation, effective today.
Here Chris Bowers at MyDD acknowledges some paid arrangement involving the SEIU.
In the interest of full disclosure, I should note that while I am not actually paid by SEIU, the only client I am currently paid to consult for is SEIU.
However, getting back to those quarter million Kos hits, the DailyKos site itself seems to be something of an SEIU cheerleader with 708 mentions. Though that isn't a huge surprise given the SEIU's Leftist slant.
DHinMI: In fact, the same weekend he (SEIU Pres - Andy Stern) was on the cover of the Gray Lady's magazine, he took some time to talk with me, on behalf of Daily Kos...
Here's a post by Kos:
Andy Stern, top dog at SEIU, has started a series on "Walmartization" on his blog. It's good stuff. Check it out.
Why Wal-Mart? If I'm not mistaken, SEIU hasn't even tried to organize Wal-Mart workers, so the union's interest in the matter seems odd at first. But fact is, Wal-Mart, being a global leader, oftentimes sets the rules. And right now, their zealous cost-cutting (remember the janitors making just dollars a day?) is setting an example to the rest of the corporate world. And workers everywhere are suddenly at risk.
Oh - and here's a link to where SEIU paid Political Technologists LLC almost $162,000 in 2005. Enter - political technologies LLC And either there's a redundancy, or they were paying two equal payouts each month.
It seems as Kos and Armstong suggested in Crashing the Gate, labor is improving their communications. Guess they funded read the book.
See a wrap up here at DC.
