Iraq War Vet Fighting The Good Fight At Home

Vince Micco is an Iraq War veteran still fighting for the troops by taking on five-term Liberal Democrat opponent, Steve Rothman, in New Jersey's 9th District.

"I'm an Iraq war veteran, and it really bothers me the way the war is being portrayed by the president's critics," said Micco, a former Army sergeant who was a counterintelligence specialist in Iraq and an Army reservist for nine years.

"I am running because the American people can and should be proud of what we're accomplishing in Iraq, and throughout the Middle East," Micco said.

Today, Rothman is bragging on his site about having voted against funding for the troops.

Today, Congressman Rothman voted against a $94.5 billion emergency supplemental spending bill, most of which would directly fund President Bush's ongoing war in Iraq.

But Micco is going to need help. Running against a five term incumbent can be hard enough, running in the 9th District can be challenging in and of itself.

In order to launch a competitive campaign, Micco, who was holding his first fundraiser Tuesday night, would have to air television ads in the expensive New York media market, said Rebovich.

Rothman is invoking the typical Liberal spin, he voted for the war because he was lied to and now it's all Bush's fault. Micco doesn't feel that way, as you can tell from this quote.

"I am running because the American people can and should be proud of what we're accomplishing in Iraq, and throughout the Middle East," Micco said.

"To just cut and run like some people in Congress are advocating is a disservice to the thousands of military people that I served with," Micco said.

More on the issues and candidates below the fold.

Steve Rothman is putting liberal Democrat politics above the lives of our service men. He should be ashamed of himself.

ROTHMAN FAILS TO SUPPORT TROOPS IN IRAQ AND NATIONAL BORDER SECURITY MEASURES

Rutherford NJ – Rep.  Steve Rothman this week voted against supporting the troops in Iraq and for continued waves of illegal immigrants flooding over our nation’s borders, said his Republican challenger, Vince Micco, an Iraq War veteran.

Rothman (D-NJ 9th District) voted against a house bill that would have allocated $66 billion for the soldiers fighting terrorists in Afghanistan and Iraq. The bill included money to upgrade personnel carriers and new technology to help protect soldiers from roadside bombs that are the leading killers of American troops. The bill passed 351-67.

“How can Steve Rothman say he supports the troops if he won’t support a bill that pays to protect them from murderous thugs in Iraq and Afghanistan,” said Micco, who spent a year as counterintelligence agent in Iraq as part of his nine year service in the U.S. Army.

“If he thinks starving the military is a way to end the war in Iraq, he is very confused and very reckless. Steve Rothman is putting liberal Democrat politics above the lives of our service men. He should be ashamed of himself,” said Micco.

Rothman boasted of his negative vote on his web site, saying that he  sent a clear message that he cannot be counted on to continue the stay the course policy in Iraq.
“What Rothman is really saying to our service men and their families is that he cannot be counted on to protect our men and women in combat and to defend our nation against terrorism; but I think most of us already knew that,” said Micco.

PANDERING TO ILLEGALS

The bill also includes $1.9 billion in border security funds, including money to pay the National Guard to patrol the nation’s porous border with Mexico.

Micco said Rothman’s vote is an obvious sign to the illegal immigration lobby that he will do nothing to curb the flow of illegals in to the country.

“Mr. Rothman is again pandering to the illegal immigration movement. Does he want to see a flood of illegal aliens continue flowing in to the country – many of whom are criminals?”

The Associated Press reported today that in a nationwide blitz called Operation Return to Sender, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers have arrested nearly 2,100 illegal immigrants since May 26.  Officials are targeting child molesters, gang members, violent criminals and others, who have returned to the country after being deported by a judge, the Associated Press reported.

Among the illegals arrested in the nationwide blitz are 140 convicted for sexual offenses against children, 367 known gang members and about 640 people who already had been deported, the AP said.

“By refusing to support border security, Steve Rothman is making it possible for child molesters, rapists and other criminals to flood in to our country and prey on our citizens,” said Micco.

In May an  illegal alien from Ecuador was arrested  in Hackensack and charged with raping a 6-year-old girl with Down syndrome Manuel Contreras-Sanango, a 19-year-old busboy, was charged with aggravated sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a minor.

“Are these the kind of people that Steve Rothman wants to allow in our country? Are these the kinds of miscreants he wants to become citizens and reap the rewards that U.S. citizenship brings,” said Micco.

“Not only can’t Steve Rothman be counted on to protect U.S. soldiers, he apparently can’t be counted on to protect U.S. citizens from the flow of criminals crossing our border and wreaking havoc in our communities,” added Micco, a father of four boys.

Thanks for writing about this. It’s been obvious for quite some time that New Jersey’s Democrat congressmen and Senators represent a political ideology and not the people of New Jersey.

Reagan won NJ in his second election - 60%. I wish Conservative Republicans would stop giving the state away to Dems and RINO's.

Are New Jerseyans sane? I cite Lautenberg the 11th hour replacement, Corzine literally in bed with the unions, your "Gay American" governor.

I applaud this brave vet and would love to see him elected, but I don't see it happening. From this side of the Delaware River you guys look nuts.
