It sounds as though Hamas is beginning to become concerned - as well they should.
GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip - Israeli warplanes struck the Palestinian Interior Ministry early Friday, setting it ablaze as Arab leaders tried to forge a deal that would halt the Israeli offensive and free a 19-year-old soldier held by gunmen allied with the ruling Islamic Hamas.
The bombing was one of more than a dozen across the Gaza Strip after midnight, though Israel called off a planned ground invasion of northern Gaza on Thursday in order to give diplomacy another chance.

The soldier's probably dead.
I'd bet they dropped him (alive or dead), into a tunnel, hoping they'd get some Israeli soldiers to go look into their booby trap.
One of the things done by arresting so many hamas terrorist "leaders" was to give the Shin Bet a chance to evaluate whether the soldier is still alive. Or not. Because, alive, the trade of leaders for the soldier would have happened, already.
Olmert may be a genius. He let the innept Amir Peretz go for the headlines; even though he was getting backdoor information from others (below) Halutz, that the plans okayed for the northern gaza incursion were poor. Instead, Olmert's said he wants something of "longer duration."
With this gap in time it doesn't look good for the soldier's fate. But at least it seems Israel's not being snookered into booby traps, OR fooled by the failure of diplomacy to dislodge the terrorists from their pickle.
So far the gazans can look forward to their loss of electricity; which also was needed for the pumps that worked their flushing toilets.
The other thing I see is that it may finally be dawning on the "yoots," who thought it okay to go hiking (hitching or back-packing) into Ramallah was STOOOPID. Perhaps they did it to buy recreational drugs? In any event the arabs had a market where they sold stuff. And, it's possible the money from these "tourists" dries up?
However the palestinians sealed the fate of the soldier they kidnapped; there are hopeful signs that some of the "detained" hamas terrorists will be put on trial. Won't be so easy for them to glam onto the money they collect by passing their tin cups around the europeans.
At least Olmert didn't take what happened lightly.
But up ahead? How, exactly are Amir (putz) Peretz, and Dan Halutz, gonna work t'gether? What's up Olmert's sleeve? As a poltician he's known to flap his mouth; where the words that come out mean the opposite of what he does. I don't think there's a downside, here for Bibi. Who had the guts to hang onto the Likud's sinking ship.
