Democrats in Texas should remember what happened in NJ. A disgraced governor who possibly could have been indicted for corruption if he stayed resigned in August ... only he didn't make it effective until November 15. That was one day beyond what would have required a special election.
By delaying his resignation until Nov. 15, McGreevey prevents a special election this fall to replace him, and instead allows the Democratic president of the state Senate, Dick Codey, to serve as acting governor for the remainder of McGreevey's four-year term, which ends in January 2006. McGreevey said his timing was designed "to facilitate a responsible transition."
Also, Corzine held his Senate seat while running for Governor and was able to appoint Menendez - who has yet to be elected to the Senate, but he's there.
Now the Dems in Texas are taking the opposite stance to try and keep Delay around.
Yeah, it's all about what's right, sure. I'm really get of sick of politicians refusing to play by any rules except the ones that give them an advantage.
