Why Can't We Just Be White?

Just an off the cuff observation having some across this Reid / racism story, again.

Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid called a proposal to make English the official language "racist" on the Senate floor yesterday.

"This amendment is racist. I think it's directed basically to people who speak Spanish," the Democrat said during the already tense debate over immigration reform.

I'm really growing weary of hearing from liberals how every nationality, race, ethnicity, what have you, needs to endeavor to preserve its heritage and any unique cultural beliefs, or norms.

Of course, if you happen to be white, English speaking, or God forbid a Christian, than that doesn't apply. What a bunch of bunk the Left has succeeded in foisting onto this country over the years.

If their position were a principled one, it would apply to everyone. But it isn't. And while it might not have been the original intent, the only result from such liberal lunacy would be the ultimate tearing down of the melded culture which has made this Nation so great.

Screw 'em. I'm really sick of being lectured to by a bunch of now well-off white men who probably have no time for your average black, brown, or yellow person unless they're chasing their vote, or getting them to mow their lawn.

Over the past fifty or so years the liberals have gone from wanting equality for all, to trying to make it all but a crime to simply be white. Well, it isn't. And I resent these continued attempts to make me feel like it is.

I don't want or need a law on the language, it's America, dammit, learn to speak English, or be resigned to cutting my lawn because of your refusal to assimilate into the greatest country in the world. And while we're at it, stop giving your children these stupid ass-ed names I'm tired of trying to figure out.

Why you are intent on aligning yourself with a part of the world more determined to hack itself to death, than to actually get along, is beyond me. Eventually America is going to have to step in just to keep the factions apart. Stop trying to balkanize the best example of a unified melting pot the world has ever seen and grab onto the real American dream available to you, instead of listening to a race baiting leadership that has never accomplished anything significant on its own.

The best Black civil rights leader America has ever known was named Martin, for heaven's sake, not Barack or Joachime. And if you want to chart your own speshul cultural course, so be it. It's America, after all, one of the few places in the world where you're even free to do so. But don't come bitching to me when you can't seem to make it in a mainstream from which you so deliberately turned away.

There are many immigrants for whom english is the native language. Jamaica comes to mind. What's wrong with learning the majority languange of the country into which you relocate? Past generations of immigrants formed their own full time schools, or part time after school programs to teach the culture and language of their former country. What is wrong with english?

Spanish-speaking recent immigrants to this country now are acculturating the same way every other immigrant group has. The first generation speaks primarily the native language, their children are biloingual, and their grandchildren will be primarily English-speakers. Research against Mexican immigrants who have been here for a long period of time bears this out. People need to stop freaking out over this issue.

This is America. It is an ENGLISH speaking country. This should be the only official language. You should be free to speak any language you wish, but all goverment and state agencies should print and distribute their information in ONLY ENGLISH. When you go to other countries, they speak their native language, and no one is specially catered to like in the US. Try going to Mexico or Latin America and tell them that everything should be in multi languages cuz its easier to understand. You'd be shot!!
