Something tells me no amount of therapy would be enough.
EAST PALO ALTO, Calif. — Convicted murderer Scott Peterson is turning on the charm again, this time for one of the jurors who sent him to death row.
Richelle Nice tells People magazine she's been corresponding with Peterson for about a year. She says in his letters, Peterson is polite, charming and showers her with compliments.
Several witnesses at Peterson's murder trial, including Peterson's former lover, described him as charming. Peterson was convicted of murdering his pregnant wife, Laci.
Nice says she first wrote to Peterson only as an exercise suggested by her therapist. She decided to mail it, and he replied.
Nice says Peterson seems more concerned about how the trial affected her than how it affected him. And he repeatedly denied killing his wife.

Socio/psycopaths ARE very charming. That's why they usually get away with so much. No one can believe that "that nice guy" can possibly do "something like that." It's scary.

She also said that she knew he was playing her like he did with Amber. That he was very interested in how the autopsy photos affected her. He is the sicko. For Richelle I think the trial took a huge toll and she just wants to know why he did it. She wrote him 17 times and he answered 10 times. I wonder what Laci's mom thinks about this????

Oh, what a wonderful life they will have together! Wonder if he was checking her out during his trial. Creep---who is now attracting his own kind! I'm sure he is replying, what else does he have to do? We could all write and he would probably reply as long as we don't play mean.

This woman probably has PTSD from that trial. I imagine her therapist recommended her writing and confronting what this juror perceives as pure evil. She's done it in transference as Amber. What is good about this exercise is that Amber bested this creep. If this helps Richelle, it's a good thing. Otherwise, she'll relive it until the day she dies. She's aware of what's going on.

I saw Richelle being interviewed several times; to me, she appeared emotionally brutalized. Recovery from extreme trauma is slow and painful; the mind has to process countless details before resolution is possible. What an observer sees is very often not the reality of the situation.

He'd make a fine date. Just don't go deep-sea fishing with him, honey
Hey with Dahmer and Ted Bundy gone, girls gotta scramble for thr B-list

ten bucks says she ends up wanting to marry him...

50 bucks she wants money and fame. I smell a book deal. What shrink would have a patient enter a relationship with a killer?? He/she should have their license revoked.

Oh gawd. Too bad Tookie ain't beating the crap outta him right now!

If it was PTSD from the trial, then some of those that followed this case and lived it day in and day out would have also been affected.
I think that Magenta hair dye penetrated her skull a little too deeply.
Not taking either the $10 or $50 bets... Both will likely happen!

Sounds like the therapist encouraged her to WRITE a letter, and it was the former juror's brilliant idea to actually SEND it.

Scott is sitting in his jail cell, laughing his ass off at this idiot woman. Gleeful at the public perception he may possibly be affecting for his appeal.
Posted by: jill | Friday, May 26, 2006 at 12:21 PM
What appeal? What trial error occurred in this case?
Appeals don't judge crimes or the criminal, appeals judge the case and judge the process. Scott's appeal will fail because there is nothing to appeal. His trial was fairly done with no reversable error.
(And I'm someone who, throughout the entire case, was relatively convinced that the state hadn't met its burden. That said, I also accept the jury's verdict because they are the jury :) )
Posted by: jh | Friday, May 26, 2006 at 12:35 PM
And I, for one, believe that the state had more than ample evidence to meet it's burden of proof and Scott is where he needs to be. Let him rot in hell. Our laws need to be more stringent than the lackadaisy style typically used. I agree with the others in that I too smell a "book deal."

Oops. Sorry for the repeat.

I think more likely what has happened to this woman is that somebody let it slip (even scott? ) that she was writing him, and the press cascaded to her door. It seems rather tabloidish. Frankly, too, unless there was jury misconduct, I don't think anyone really cares what this woman has to say. Scott could be a perfect gentleman without a single bad thought for anyone ever. It doesn't change what he did over those days. It doesnt change that he was convicted of killing Laci and Conner. It doesn't change that he likely did it. So what if he's civil and a charmer and all that now? Does that make his past go away?
My bet is some tabloid broke it, and I'm really kinda ashamed that CNN considers this a front page news story.

She is in for the money no doubt, has to pay the therapist somehow.
Posted by: Sweetie | Friday, May 26, 2006 at 02:22 PM
and this is the one who said his behavior at trial spoke volumes in convicting him?? now she is writing tohim? I highly doubt it is for "therapy" one letter is closure - 10 is a relationship. good lord is she that dumb? what a slap in the face to the family and isn't this some kind of unethical? what if the defense could say they had some sort of relationship beforehand or soemthing? yeah scott is real broken up about his wife...can't ya tell? how sad she helped convict him of death for goodness sake now she wants to be his friend?

"If it was PTSD from the trial, then some of those that followed this case and lived it day in and day out would have also been affected."
Nope. Trauma, whatever kind, affects people differently. PTSD is quiet. You don't know how the others are affected, but this much I can guarantee: Their lives will never be as they were before this trial.
And since when is writing a few letters considered a 'relationship'?
Book deal? Good for her. She deserves it after sitting there and listening for all that time. Go for it.
Posted by: Phoenix | Friday, May 26, 2006 at 07:10 PM
Perhaps she is "screwing" him. Get a book deal for her time sitting up there on the jury and listening to his nonsense. If she does get a deal I would hope she would send some procedes to the Laci/Conner foundation--sorry, I'm not sure what it's called exactly. This just makes him look really good huh? Like a husband and dad in mourning. WHATEVER!

So Richelle's therapist encouraged her to write to Scott? Sounds fine to me, allow a woman who's seeing a therapist and is obviously vulnerable to begin corresponding with a charming manipulator, one that murdered his pregnant wife and unborn son while having affairs. Richelle's therapist probably was the one that said Pink is a good hair colour for her. Hopefully Richelle's 4 children have other influences in their lives.

Forget what you think about the Peterson case for a moment and ask yourself this:
Would you want this whack job on a jury judging you if you were accused of murder?? How do we pick these people? Is the best we can come up with for a high profile jury anymore: a bunch of folks who would otherwise be watching Springer or Judge Judy at home every day?
Good Lord I could vomit...

This is not totally uncommon on many levels.
Some jurors look for closure, especially in capital cases or high profile cases. I think the therapist encouraged her to write the letter in order to get deep rooted feelings or anxiety out of her system. Mailing the actual letter is a whole different story though.
Many infamous or serial killers have groupies and admirers. Ted Bundy, Richard Ramirez, Manson, Hillside Stranglers, Menendez Brothers - they all attract women for some reason. Some have even married.
Without actually reading the entire contents of these letters between Scott and Richelle, how can we say what is happening, being said, the intentions or feelings involved.
How quick we are to judge - must be a byproduct of sensationalistic media and TV hosts like Nasty Face... err Nancy Grace.

"How quick we are to judge.." No kidding.
She has pink hair and that makes her a whack-job. God, people are so stupid.

Phoenix says "She has pink hair and that makes her a whack-job. God, people are so stupid."
Where in the world is Pink Hair considered normal? Phoenix?
Posted by: pb | Saturday, May 27, 2006 at 06:26 PM
This is incredibly common. Women love convicted murderers, for some reason. Most serial killers get tons of letters, and same get married to one of their admirers while in prison.
Go figure. But I myself had a friend who used to write Jeffry Dahmer (of all people).

People have no shame today. They find a reason for any action they take, no matter how vile, that allows them to escape personal responsibility. Every murderer, rapist, etc has a story, an excuse. Richelle's correspondence (17 letters she has mailed, 10 letters she has received over the past year) is supposed to be some kind of twisted therapy. I would say that 27 letters exchanged over a year would constitute a "relationship". 27 letters is definitely more than my definition of a "few". Whatever happened to common sense?

pb,
"I would say that 27 letters exchanged over a year would constitute a "relationship"."
Maybe you should get a life?

whether she is nuts or not she is giving scott peterson a good grounds for appeal - not to mention the fifty screwed up things that happened during the actual trial that could get him a new hearing but now a juror who helped convict him is writing to him regularly? somewhere in there has to be some sort of ethics violation - and if not for god's sake you would think this woman would consider how this may look to laci's family and feel for them - she was one of the ones all over the news after the case was over blabbing about how peterson's behavior in court said so much about his guilt and da da da.....how does it look now that she is his pen pal?
Posted by: truthbetold | Sunday, May 28, 2006 at 04:12 AM
"Get a life"? Ouch! How will I ever be able to handle this indignity? I know! I'll write Scott Peterson! He'll be able to guide me through this and whatever else life throws at me!
"WWSPD?" - My new bumper sticker (What Would Scott Peterson Do?)
Thanks for showing me The Way, Phoenix! Rise Above!

WHY WOULD ANYONE WRITE TO SCOTT PETERSON OR HAVE ANY CONTACT WITH HIM? Have they forgotten the victims in this case? Have they forgotten LACI and CONNER? This monster murdered his very pregnant wife and he is receiving FAN MAIL? After going to the doctor with Laci and seeing the sonogram and looking at his unborn son he then proceeds to murder them both and toss them in the bay as if they were trash!!! As he tosses them overboard he is on the phone with another one of his victims and telling her how very much he loves her and what a wonderful future they will have together. Scott once told Laci about what a wonderful future they would have together and look where she is now thanks to the promise Scott made to her? To each and every idiot that has corresponded with Scott Peterson they are also spitting on the grave of Laci and Conner! If they have so much time on their hands maybe they need to volunteer at a domestic violence shelter? If your therapist tells you to write to Scott Peterson, I suggest you find a new therapist.
NEVER FORGET LACI AND CONNER!
