Humiliating Zarqawi
Interesting tactic. Apparently the great jihadist leader doesn't quite know how to work a gun.
Now how did that video get out? It must be the one mentioned as recently captured during this raid. Also see here.
That's very sloppy on Zarqawi's part. Image is everything in his role, which is precisely why he went to the trouble to make a video in the first place. I doubt if the un-edited version would have gotten out a year or two ago. I also wonder if there isn't soemhting of a power struggle inside al Qaida going on. Zarqawi wasn't seen as the direct leader in Iraq anymore according to some reports.
Whatever the case, it seems safe to assume there is a weakening of some type going on, at least as regards his role or leadership. That could force him to become a bit more visible at a time when we appear to be closing in.

"Image is everything in his role."
Oh, I don't think so. I think he could care less about this clip.

I absolutely agree, MLN - he certainly could care LESS - and because so many people are seeing the clip, he will probably never reach the point where he COULDN'T care less.

It may be interesting to some that the machine gun in question is a M249 Squad Automatic Weapon (SAW)that is issued to both the US Army and US Marines.

Not sure why a leader would be expected to know how to operate a specific weapon or even how to build bombs.
