The Aruban boy who was apprehended last week in Utrecht is trying to prevent his extradiction to Aruba. His lawyer Gerard Spong has herefore started summary proceedings against the State. This procedure will be adressed in court in The Hague on Tuesday.
According to Spong his client is accused of being principal in the second degree of murder, severe assault and deprivation of liberty of Natalee Holloway. The American student disappeared during a holiday with her classmates on Aruba in the night of may 29nth to may 30th last year. She has been without trace since then.
The new suspect is acquainted with Joran van der Sloot, who was the first to be accussed in having had a role in Holloway's disappearence. Van der Sloot has admitted that he kept the girl company on the night of her disappearence but has denied having done anything wrong. He remains a principal suspect in this notorious case.
Witness
The new suspect is a friend of Van der Sloot. He was a croupier in the hotel where Holloway stayed. The boy was arrested by request of the Aruban Prosecution Counsel. In an earlier stage of the investigation he was already interrogated several times as a witness. He is the tenth to be arrested in the Holloway case.
The (divorced) parents of the new suspect have issued a statement in English through the law firm of Spong. They express horror over their sons arrest. “This came like a bolt from the blue”. They trust on a positive ending. “We are all innocent untill proven guilty. That also counts for our son”.
Warning
The statement also contains a warning to the media. Especcially the American media has in the past thrown themselves like vultures on the case. The parents of the new suspect state that they will legally prosecute by whatever means necessary every media that goes too far in their eyes. They will defend themselves in every confrontation with the press.

Extradition is the wrong term in my opion. Although Aruba is an independent island they're still part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and its legal juridiction. This is similar to Puerto Rico wanting a person for questioning who lives in, let's say, Oregon or something. Puerto Rico is part of the U.S. Common wealth, mooching of our social welfare system.

Maybe the heavy charges on him is to put more pressure on him, maybe they think he is ready to sing, or they have other evidence on him
Posted by: mem | Monday, May 22, 2006 at 03:53 PM
On the 17th evening of May JQ Kelly seemed really relaxed in the interview with Greta, actually smiled a couple of times. I thought he was just relieved that the civil case was not thrown out that morning, however in hindsight he did say that he talked to Jannsen that day, I can't help wondering if he was given some information on this new guy?
Posted by: IMHERE | Monday, May 22, 2006 at 03:56 PM
@mem
He can't sing. Aruba doesn't have plea bargaining. Even if he did testify against Joran and Deepak, he still goes to jail for the full term. Because he's been indicted, he's going to go to trial. It is safe to say he is their main suspect, seeing as he's the only one who had enough evidence to garner an indictment.
Don't you get it? They think this guy did it, more than anyone else involved with this case.
Posted by: jh | Monday, May 22, 2006 at 03:58 PM
Of course there will be a hearing, maybe the heavy charges is to convince the judge to deliver him.
Does any one know what the Zaanse methode is. Hope i write it right.
Posted by: mem | Monday, May 22, 2006 at 03:59 PM
JH,
I thought that Aruba had something called a "Crown Witness" which would allow them to use someone for imfomation without prosecuting them?
Also does the new term being used "Heavy Battery" send shivers down your spines? Almost sounds like they do have new info on details of Natalee's demise.
Posted by: Mike | Monday, May 22, 2006 at 04:10 PM
So, indict charge, i had to consuld my dictionary.Ha.
IF HE IS THE ONE. I will say poor Joran. Even i have sometimes think it is him. As he said it himself if he deserve to go to gail it is for lying. Even so we have to wait until this go to court and the Ale can prove it to the judge.Hope this is over for the families and for us.
We have suffer enough.
Posted by: mem | Monday, May 22, 2006 at 04:15 PM
@mike
It'd be different if they wanted to bring him in for material testimony.. but since when do witnesses get indicted for being involved?
This guy is not a witness, he's a suspect. And like I said, you can't "roll" on people in Aruba for a lesser sentence.
Posted by: jh | Monday, May 22, 2006 at 04:15 PM
@mem
My apologies. I knew there was a language difference and I didn't clarify.
Indictment means formally charged. In the US, a grand jury issues an "indictment" and that means there's enough evidence to proceed with a trial.
In Aruba , the prosecutor issues that statement. (it's often on a piece of paper called a "True Bill")
No one else in this case has been indicted.
So, was it a ploy to get the netherlands to hand him over? Possibly. But like I said, to what end? He can't make plea arrangements or plead down to a lesser crime, and he can't be compelled to testify against himself.
Posted by: jh | Monday, May 22, 2006 at 04:18 PM
I don't think that he has actually been "indicted" yet. In my opinion he has only been picked up for questioning for suspicion of murder. Remember the false beliefs about the status of Joran when the different Aruban legal terms were thrown about. I believe there is still a possibility that Wever could eventually be a "Crown witness" if he or his lawyer could convince the authorities, an examining judge, that someone else, say Joran, actually perpretated the crime.

@Captain Joe:
http://www.cnn.com/2006/LAW/05/22/holloway/index.html
His own lawyer says he was indicted. He used the term "indicted" and "charged."
They, like Joran's parents, say that they hope the "girl" will "turn up somewhere alive."

You have to prove things here. Prove he's getting out tomorrow. news.google.com disagrees with you.

Julia , Joe and Dave discussed it on Catherine Crier . He is indeed getting out tomorrow .
Posted by: mylena | Monday, May 22, 2006 at 05:50 PM
Right. That's why papers and news services from the Netherlands state nothing like that.
I don't know, I think I'll believe reporters on the ground at the scene instead of the talking heads that have repeatedly gotten this wrong.
Posted by: jh | Monday, May 22, 2006 at 05:56 PM
Folks, if i am not wrong, what Sprong is saying is that G. Wever, will be released tomorrow, but he will still be a suspect, that is what he understand of what the officer of justice concluded, based on the grounds of witch he is detained, becaused it will be difficuld in a procedure, (to prove this?)But will go in front of a judge tomorrow.

Joe Weaver says that the justice served in Aruba is the only fair way to treat this case. Don Juans galore in C&C club where baby, I love you so is commonplace. He's lucky she was 18 and not 17 jail bait, you know the way you dog me around. Fortune be to the wind when sails are set. You people don't get it as they are protecting their own.

Interesting perspective SethLevin. We'll see about tomorrow. Amazing, he's charged with HEAVY BATTERY and MANSLAUGHTER and he walks tomorrow? Didn't they have enough to jail him with or is this the equal to our making bail?

Hey dumbasses that say GW and Joran are not friends, why would the top lawyer in the NL lie about the relationship b/n these two? Why did Helen de Sousa also state they are very good friends? Jossy too! Everybody down there says these two hang out, gamble and play tennis together. I know for you Joran lovers this must suck and you can't handle it but it does no use to deny the TRUTH about these two. They belong to the same club yet they don't know each other outside of tennis? BS They even go to the same school, correct? Message for Joran and his lunatic jackass followers: a train named JUSTICE is on the way and you and your loser buddy Joran are standing in the tracks. You better jump out of the way first before Joran pulls you in. All of these jackasses drank the koolaid in Jonestown, keep backing Joran and you too will find the same fate as he will when he meets the grand maker.
It is without a doubt that Joran and this guy know each other and know each other well. You are in a serious state of denial if you can't see it. Take your heads out of Joran's ass you bunch of two-cent whores.
Posted by: dt | Monday, May 22, 2006 at 07:38 PM
jh - stop acting like you know so much you don't know jack shit just like Dan, scubajap and that guido Joey Taco, greaseball loser.
stop taking up for joran, he knows this gw kid and they knew each other well according to gw's high profile and well respected lawyer. make all the excuses you want, they know each other and it isn't a coincidence either that they both lied about their alibis the next day. both of those losers (who can't get laid without drugs and rape) had bruises and scratches. they belong to the same school, gamble together and play tennis together.
AWWWW, I know it hurts!

Second degree murder? Give me a break!
Murder of whom? These idiots are still looking for a dead body! Doesn't anyone want to search for a live Natalee?
Look at it this way. At least they're just starting to exhibit curiosity about the 7 or 8 locals who blew town within 24 hours after Nat vanished.
Second degree murder. Yeeesh!

@ Skyboxx who said: We have accused HI security guards, arrested a judge, arrested the judges son, arrested the son of a security agency based on the testimoney of the police cheifs (Dompig) son..arrested a friend of the judges son and his brother and we have arrested the a DJ and party boat operator, also a friend of the judge's son and friends. Now ALE has arrested another friend of the judges son who worked at the Casino where the judges underage son was allowed to gamble. This latest arrest is a person who left the Island soon after the disappearance of Natalee. Other people to have left the island soon after NH disappearance are the former Police Supt and his son.
..........................................
and your point is? (kidding)
I know. It's like they are chasing rabbits. I cannot blame the family when they remain in wait and see mode after having hopes dashed time and again.
to dt: step away from the keyboard. Remember: "the monitor is my friend".
From Hyscience and Shonane at the top of page two on their Natalee thread:
"One post somewhere said that Weaver worked the casino the night Natalee disappeared, my impression was for a few hours after her disappearance, and that others who worked with him thought he acted nervous (that wasn't their adjective, but it was similar), then he abruptly quit after her disappearance and moved to Holland. It is claimed by some he had scratches and bruises after here disappearance, but some were disputing this. He and Joran also were alleged to have played tennis the afternoon after Natalee disappeared."
She also offered this:
I'll just be tyou will have it all sorted out by Friday. Here are the three:
1. Guido Wever who use to work at the Excelcior Casino as "dealer", who use to play tennis at the Aruba Raquet club, and who is the son of a political party's leader, Robert Wever, was detained in the Netherlands.
2. Sander G. is the kid in school in Aruba that left before his finals and flew to Holland last week and now is detained in the Netherlands. (Some speculated that he is Koen's younger brother, but don't know if this is accurate.)
Carlos Alberto Penata Ramos is a Colombian man who was detained in Aruba. (Some speculated that he also is Jossy's gardener witness.)

Seems that being an acquaintance of Joran is enough to arrest someone, even charge them with murder. This is terrible. How many lives are going to be damaged? When will this end?

Hey,
I'm going to try this once. If it doesn't work then I'll be back with new particulars. Cheers

truer words were never spoken - I think this whole thign should have ceased when beth was yoo hooing into people's parent's homes with fox news in tow and bringing cameras to peoples workplaces to try and humilitae them because of course the most important thing to her is finding natalee right? sure, as long as it is done on camera with a deal with fox news

Whether they're grasping at straws with this last "arrest" or not, it's just curious that this young man has "the" European lawyer to defend him. He defended Maloskovitch. He's big time. This kid comes from a middle class upbringing and he has a "Johnnie Cochran" lawyer. It smells fishy to me.

According to a law professor from the University of Amsterdam that was on with Greta a couple of months ago, Aruba does have "plea bargain". A "Crown Witness" can provide information to help solve a case and receive a lesser sentence.
Does any one know if Guido really is Arlene Ellis-Schipper's cousin????

Orenjadgt Aruba...Aruban Law Enforecment today announed they have arrested Joran Van Der Sloots School teacher and a former Nanny of JVS. ALE said "they too, once knew JVS" and that is grounds for arrest in the disappearance of NH. Meanwhile, JVS too younger brothers have retained legal counsel to renounce that they ever "knew" JVS. Said a spokesman for the brothers, "Yes they lived and grew up in the same house, but NO, they actually did NOT know each other, strange as it sound."
Aruban authorities have also set up a hot line where you can call one of two phone numbers. One number if you KNOW JVS, one number if you don't. No word on which hot line is being used the most.
Finally tourism continues to plumment on the small self governed proterctorate of Holland. ALE denies any connection with their inabilithy to solve the case of the missing Alabama teen. They are however looking to find someone else to arrest, just to keep the ARuba name in the press as popularity falls for this tiny island nation

We've gone from missing to Heavey Battery, manslaughter and second degree murder, but ALE has refused to say what they think happened to NH. How to you charge without evidence? Oh that's right Paulus said NO BODY, NO CASE.
Well guess what Paulus, someone is talking.......listen ver closely.....

Does Aruba have any idea what people across the world are saying or thinking. This case in Aruba has become the butt of jokes. This morning on a local radio station, the joke was that Barbarow was arrested in connection the the Holloway case.
Aruba stop mocking yourself and self destructing your island.
