I assume this is what Drudge is going to link, he has the text up but not the link, yet. If it is, it doesn't look like new news. One thing does trouble me, though. I read where they aren't allowing the bodies to be exhumed. Hopefully there's other corroborating evidence as to how many were killed and where they were shot. This is, after all, a potential murder investigation.
WASHINGTON, May 30 — A military investigator uncovered evidence in February and March that contradicted repeated claims by marines that Iraqi civilians killed in Haditha last November were victims of a roadside bomb, according to a senior military official in Iraq.
Among the pieces of evidence that conflicted with the marines' story were death certificates that showed all the Iraqi victims had gunshot wounds, mostly to the head and chest, the official said. here's Drudge
Also there is another item up that claims no officers are being investigated, but I'm not confident in the way that reads. The source may simply not know.
Three officers relieved of command from a Marine battalion are not targets of investigations into whether their troops killed as many as two dozen Iraqi civilians and tried to cover it up, the attorney for one of the officers said Tuesday.
Capt. James Kimber learned about the deaths only after the 3rd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment returned from Iraq in March, attorney Paul Hackett said.
Separate investigations seek to determine whether the Nov. 19 killings in the western Iraqi city of Haditha were criminal and whether the Marines involved and their commanding officers tried to hide the truth.
