Yes, I know you know. I'd enourage you to visit Senator Bill Frist's blog here for insights on pending amendments to a Senate compromise bill being bandied about.
Rather than post them, I'l link to excerpts from Bush's speech, which were mailed out to the media, new and old.
PJM has a round up of blog posts on the topic. NZ Bear offers links to several blogs live blogging the speech.
This from the Heritage Foundation is especially troubling.
If enacted, the Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act (CIRA, S.2611) would be the most dramatic change in immigration law in 80 years, allowing an estimated 103 million persons to legally immigrate to the U.S. over the next 20 years—fully one-third of the current population of the United States.
I wish I felt more optimistic about how things are going to turn out, but I suspect the Republican Party is about to be torn apart.
I hope to post after the speech.

Repubs can well afford to be "torn apart" wouldn't you say? They have all our money, all the money we could borrow and sell our soul for from China, and all the money our children needed for schools for the next 100 years. They hit us a few years ago, got into Ft Knox, emptied it in the name of a war (gosh what's new about that - every repub admin does that), createD an outflow of magnum proportion, set up contracts so we can hear the sucking sound out of WashDC well after they leave office, and we are sitting here saying WHAAAAAAAA JUST HAPPENED???????
There's nothing anybody who could come on TV tonight could say unless they say, use the thousands of military at our country's disposal to ROUND UP THE INVADERS, put them on some of the swanky Carnival cruise liners we paid for that sat empty in New Orleans harbor........and ship them anywhere but here, and I don't care if you drop them in a land they don't even know.......shoot, they came here and didn't know it.......let them start a whole new adventure in a different "new and foreign land".....and see if that land will pay for them to go to the doctor, pay to have people speak THEIR LANGUATE so as not to put them out, .......where do these congressmen get off saying these invaders are CHEAP LABOR? Did you just hear the stats on how much it COSTS THE TAXPAYER to support these "cheap labor" folks? They are NOT CHEAP!

Please. Seems like something is always tearing apart the Republicans, turns out it is just political junkies who need to get out more. I never hear one word about immigration from the regular people I run into. They are too busy bitching about gas. Our country is at full employment and still needing more workers.

Nietzsche wrote, "A country is a place where the people speak the same language and read the same newspapers."
As far as I am concerned Mexico has been engaging in economic terrorism against us for far too long. I support an immediate expulsion of all illegal immigrants. The cost of which will be billed to thier home countries. If any nation refuses to pay that ammount plus any previous debt owed in full within 30 days, we launch the nukes.
