I'll link to the Krauthammer piece, but it's already been said, by me as well as many others.
Under the guise of effective immigration reform, Senate leaders tried to sell us a bill of goods yesterday. It's time they wake up and realize people are not buying it. Enough is enough. Reagan compromised and where did it get us? In worse shape as regards illegal immigration than when we started. Not again!
When you read the fine points of what they tried to pass off on us, every American citizen should be outraged, no matter their politics right now. The Senate tried to pull a fast one. But news travels too fast for that to work anymore.
Like that surprise hidden on page 302 - which would replace the country's entire bench of experienced immigration judges with pro-immigration advocates.
And there's more.
If the politicians of both parties want to do this equivocal dance and give us Trojan Horses, or nothing, that is exactly what they should expect next time we go to the polls. This compromise bill was a disgrace.
Americans as a whole are NOT anti-immigration. They are anti-illegal immigration. And until our porous southwestern border is closed, nothing will change. That is an absolute fact.
I have no doubt that Left and Right could come together on this issue once the border is sealed. Deport criminals, deadbeats and riff raff and let the rest of our South of the Border visitors stay, while providing for assimilation through language and appropriate civil compliance.
America can and will absorb appropriate numbers of the world's hungry, tired and poor. She will not stand for being overrun by them at the whim of a too liberal or too big business beholding Congress. If our politicians fail to recognize this truth, they will not remain our politicians for long.
As for Bush, this is not the first time he has been on the wrong side of an issue. Most conservatives knew he was weak on immigration when he came into office. But it never percolated up into the national consciousness. Now it has.
Bush will come and go. And so will all presently sitting politicians. America will not! Her citizens will not allow that to happen. And it is high time that our politicians started listening to us.

right on!
