This is absolutely ridiculous!
Immigrant Bill Fallout May Hurt House GOP
Yesterday, House Speaker J. Dennis Hastert (R-Ill.) and Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-Tenn.) issued a joint statement seeking to deflect blame for the harshest provisions of the House bill toward the Democrats, who they said showed a lack of compassion. "It remains our intent to produce a strong border security bill that will not make unlawful presence in the United States a felony," Hastert and Frist said.
Sen. Edward M. Kennedy (D-Mass.) fired back that "there's no running away from the fact that the Republican House passed a bill and Senator Frist offered one that criminalizes immigrants."
What is the problem with these Republican legislators? They did not pass a bill that made immigrants illegal, they passed a bill that called illegal immigrants precisely what they are. And now they are going to run away from it? What a disgrace.
Years ago the entire Congress passed the laws we have on the books today, ones they did not enforce, ones which are broken everyday. And now, instead of leading on illegal immigration, the GOP is going to turn tail and runaway? Do they want so badly to go down in defeat? Because that is precisely what will happen if they abandon the alleged principles for which people elected them.
Is there not one leader in this increasingly pathetic party that has the courage to stand up and speak the truth? To look out for legitimate, taxpaying citizens, instead of crowds of who knows who gathered together by activist groups from the Left?
Every nation has the right and the responsibility to enforce its borders, this is totally insane. Have America and her politicians become this weakened by political correctness? We shouldn't even be having this debate! Every country enforces its borders and there is absolutely no reason that in a growing global world American cannot and should not do exactly the same.
Damn these vote-sniveling bastards. If they can't lead America, then just like illegal aliens, they need to get the hell out - at least of the majority, if nothing else. And they will do exactly that the way they are heading. Ronald Reagan must be turning over in his grave.
I hope there's a leader somewhere in that crumbling party, which today appears to be a shadow of itself, full of political whores intent on abandoning principle so as to pimp themselves for votes. If Republicans remain on this co-dependent Democrat path they are on, look for significant third party challenges from the Right. From what I am seeing today, I would strongly consider voting for one now.
I'd sooner throw a vote away than give it to these spineless Republicans dressed up as Conservatives, which clearly they ain't!
update: minor text correction

Why would Ronald Reagan be turning over in his grave, when he gave illegal immigrants amnesty in his tenure as President. What the American people have to come to grips with is that our "leaders" whether Republican or Democrat are spineless traitors.

I am a long time Republican and I agree with you 100%. I'd rather not vote for one of these spineless nuts again. I wish every GOP Senator could read your article. Thanks for saying it like it is.

Sure, separate AMERICAN-born kids from their illegal parents, unless you're planning on deporting American CITIZENS, too. The party of "family values" strikes again. Just like the SD anti-abortion bill, you wingnuts will find that trying to work out the nuts-and-bolts of just who to persecute is a bit more complicated than the simplicity that your "get em all out" jingoism belies. I'm sure you'll be able to find amoral rightards to do your work for you though, just as long as someone else can deal with the dirty work of handling the wetbacks.

I think the time is right for a rational, logical, 3rd party- born of the blogosphere.

In reply to v, you are another bleeding heart liberal!!! Do not blame us "wingnuts" for separating illegal parents from their American-born kids. The illegal parents took that risk when they entered the United States illegally. Why can't you blame them?

It is impossible to correct what has been "incorrect" for so many years. And to establish another surreal law for what? to be pissed on?
It is not with xenophobic outbursts that hunger and opportunity for a better future from illegal immigrants is going to be solved. Just as in any family, the better well-off brother is always helping the less fortunate siblings, in the symphony of nations, the have nots will be after the opportunities on the other side of the border. It does not matter what's the country's name.
No law or army will solve that. If you want to test your IQ look at Irak. Us might have to leave in defeat, not because it couldn't win, but because politicians will not allow the time to become victorious.

This issue is sort of a pick your poison problem for the GOP. Illegal workers have helped to undermine the unions in this country, which big busness really likes. If you really crack down on illegals you are going to piss off big business. Rank and file repubs are definitely in favor of a crack down, so if you don't crack down on them you are going to piss them off.
This does not seem like a good issue for the GOP going into 2006

Subject: GOP "Delusional"?!?!
Any Republicans who think that by caving-in on
"enforcement" and pandering to the "Demonstration crowds" they are going to retain the "Mexican - Central American - South American" vote in November are saddly misguided and truly delusional!
There are certain groups within the "Hispanic" community (I love it how they have "artificially" made a common politically correct "ethnicity" in Washington of all the people who share once having been part of the Spanish Empire, which however are comprised of so many different, and often clashing, races, cultures, and native dialects!), as the Cubans in South Florida for instance, who will mostly remain faithful to the Republican Party in their disdain for the "Socialistic Agenda" of the Democrats (most Cuban have had enough "socialism" from Castro to last them a lifetime, and would have non of the Democrat's "pinkish"
foolishness), but the majority of the so called "Hispanic" vote was polarized by the House Bill, and no amount of pandering by "traitorous" Republicans seeking to save their own hides will ever woo them again, even if they now vote to grant them all amnesty, keep the borders open, and enroll them all on welfare and Medic-Aid to boot! As it is written in the Good Book: "You cannot serve both God and Mammon..."
It would serve Republican politicians better to remember their forgottten "constituencies", who for the most part want these illegal immigrants deported and our borders secured, who though silent, and too busy with their daily struggles for the most part to take time off to go
"demonstrate" en masse like these impudent illegals making "demands" on Americans, are the onesthey came to Washington to "represent", and not foreign nationals intent on shoving down their "illegal" presence down our collective
throats, wether we want them here or not!!!
Don't you just love that look of "smugness," on the face of Univision's Jorge Ramos, Jaime Rodriguez, Ms. Lozano of "La Raza" and all the other organizers and rabble rousers of all these illegal rallies, as they say in utter insolence to our faces: "Well America, we are here, we are not going to leave, and what are you going to do about it?!?!" when interviewed on TV??? Priceless!!!
Come November, I can assure you that most of these Republican traitors will be direly dissapointed if they expect their selling-out to the illegal immigrants and the big business interests which exploits them, to keep them in Office!!!
Unfortunately, just like a chain reaction culminating in an atomic blast, their defeat will only empower the Democrats, who will then only loosen the reins on unfettered illegal
immigration, and reverse all of the National Security policies in place which have helped avert another 9/11....with the inevitable consequences of history repeating itself!!!
Not only that, but it seems that even before gaining the majority in either the House or the Senate in November, the Democrats have already decided to cede Texas back to Mexico:
http://www.hyscience.com/archives/2006/04/democrats_recru.php
Take a look at the "Vote Democrat - Your voice matters make sure you are heard" flyer shown above, which was being passed in these demonstrations by Democrats to recruit voters. Is it just me or does the flyer seems to show Texas as part of the Republic of Mexico?!?!
Oh well! Perhaps that is why a former Texan Governor now in the White House is so intent in selling us out.... to his fellow "compatriots" south of the border!!!
Appalling!!!

Texas back to mexico?
Not sure the country would even miss it.
Aren't Republican politicians still politicians?
Frist is snake. Reminds me of Kerry.

If you really wanted to stop illegal immigration all you would have to do is make it a felony with very severe penalties to hire and illegal. If jobs are not available, illegals will stop coming here.

On the lighter side of things, earlier today I was surfing channels, it was the news hour locally, and everywhere that I switched the images of the massive illegal immigration rallies, and the chants of "Si se puede!" (apparently these Mexicans think of this conflict as of a FIFA soccer match similar to the one they lost at the World Cup in Korea a few years back, where they were all chanting the same thing) stared at my face out of my TV screen with the usual "whining" and "hand wringing" that usually accompanies them from the "Pundits and their "guests", as to what are we going to do with these 11 to 20 million illegals in our midst - as if we could not simply enforce our existing laws, round them all up, and send them all packing home, which apparently we are too "queazy," and "effeminate" as a nation (must be all that getting in touch with our "feminine" side fad of the past few years) to even consider without fainting (like I've said, that look of "smug" satisfaction at our perceived "impotence" on their faces when they tell us: "We are here, we are going nowhere, and what are you going to do about it" is priceless!!!).
I then switched to the "Animal Planet Channel," and was amazed at how enthusiastically, professionally, and "effectively" California Game and Wildlife Officers rounded up and arrested "abalone poachers" along the Pacific coast! It was quite a "sting" (and we can all sleep better knowing that the "Civil Rights" of abalone were duly protected!).
Now don't get me wrong, I am as much in favor of "conservancy" and "ecology" as the next guy, I do love animals and want to protect them and our environment, and I'm a firm advocate for the rights of whales not to be "discriminated" against because of their "girth" and made to pay more for airfare by the "prejudiced" airlines, but my God, if we'd put half the resources, the effort, and the dedication into enforcing our immigration laws and apprehending and deporting illegal aliens, as we put into apprehending "abalone poachers," "fishermen that may have gone a couple of trouts over their limit," or "elderly beachcombers in Maryland" who inadvertently picked up oysters that were under 3 inches, all of whom get caught, rounded up, slapped with cuffs, and unfailingly sent to jail (as we all see every night on Animal Planet shows), we would not have an illegal immigration problem at all! Hence, I have the following proposal:
Perhaps we should switch the roles, and have the States's "Departments of Game and Wildlife" enforce our immigration laws, and have "ICE" go after fishermen with expired licenses! That will probably solve the problem....it might make life a little easier for folks who fish too (due to the lack of enforcement)!
Also, imagine all the extra revenue the States might get when "Game and Wildlife Departments" start issuing licenses to hunt "Mexicans" along with moose, elk, deer, bear etc ( I can almost picture a couple of Head-hunter “ Diplomatic Attaches” to the UN, asking the waiter at a fine New York restaurant: “Excuse me, we would like some Wild Game for dinner. Are “Mexicans” in season?”)
Sounds like a winning proposition all around! Happy hunting!
LOL!!!
