Good grief, doesn't he ever learn?

UNITED NATIONS (Reuters) - Former Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry said on Thursday he was seriously thinking about another White House bid in 2008 and will decide before the year is out.

"I will make that decision toward the end of the year, but I'm thinking about it hard," Kerry said in response to a question at the Latin Economic Forum at the United Nations.

Okay, he did come closer to winning than I would think possible. But, damn, I would not want to see this guy become President. The really interesting thing here is that this stems from the only real upside to Bush's currently lagging poll numbers.

The more winnable the Presidency looks to Dems because of the Bush years, the more likely we'll see a full slate of Dem Presidential contenders emerge next year.

But Conservative should fear not, there is plenty of time left for things to turn around on the Republican side. And it can't hurt to have Rove back focused on politics. Though, as always, it's going take a party willing to stand for somehting to win. The biggest challenge for Republicans right now is to convince people they still do. The average voter doesn't want to hear about needing sixty Senators to get something passed.

Since they've gained control, the've spent recklessly (war debt, expanding entitlements) and gone to war recklessly (after being attacked by a bunch of radical Saudis who train and hide in nuclear Pakistan and in Afghanistan, we get friendly with the Pakistanis and put the bulk of our military in Iraq) and dismantled our civil liberties in the name of security (while illegal aliens easily gain entry via our southern border...Bush having been the governor of a southwestern state proved to be no advantage in this area). I think fondly of Bush 2000 who was for smaller government, the U.S. not being the policeman of the world, et cetera. What a disappointment that he borrowed a play from Bill Clinton's playbook in that he quickly abandoned the ideas that got him elected. Obviously, a lot of Republicans in Congress did the same.

No child left behind? Forcing our intelligence agencies under even more layers of bureaucracy? From a "Republican?" Good grief....

I hope John Kerry runs again, especially if Hillary is also in the race. I can just imagine them facing off in a debate. If Kerry gives Hillary any lip she's going to play the offended little woman. Or maybe vice versa.

Let's see, the Dems have Hillary, Kerry, Dean and Biden....scary to say the least. They'd be doing the Republicans a favor throwing any one of them into the race.

You are right, Dan, the Republicans need to get their message out loud and clear and stand up for what they believe in. IMO, something Bush has always done, although, maybe it has not been communicated as well as it should be. Republicans have a lot of work to do in that regard.

cripes, Dems and Repubs have both strayed away from party stereo types.

I'm not so sure "Tax and spend" necessarily applies to democrats anymore. Fiscally responsible republicans are now appearing as "borrow and spend" republicans.

Its hardly worth talking about a presidential candidate in terms of party; they are out for themselves and party is just a means to an end.

Not so sure about Kerry being a sure win for republicans. A few tweaks here and there in different states and he could have a win. Alot of folks are really disenchanted with republicans right now and it will be hard for republicans to fix that. A war in Iran probably won't draw the country together or solidify party support. That card has been played. Tossing out illegals could backfire. Frankly, I don't think it looks good for republicans considering the state of affairs and the fact that all 3 branches of the governement are republican controlled.
