Iran Threatens US

"I would advise them to first get out of their quagmire in Iraq before getting into an even bigger one," General Safavi said with a grin.

"We have American forces in the region under total surveillance. For the past two years, we have been ready for any scenario, whether sanctions or an attack."

Quagmire? Is any more proof needed that our enemies lift their talking points right from the Democrats? I find that very sad. Keep in mind, this is not Iranian President Ahmadinejad (pronounced - I might need a job) speaking. It is a powerful member of the theocracy propping Ahmadinejad the mullah puppet up.

At a Friday prayer sermon in Tehran, senior cleric Ayatollah Ahmad Janati simply branded the US as a "decaying power" lacking the "stamina" to block Iran's ambitions.

Like the Left in the US, they are still re-living Vietnam. And they quote the Iranian president, too.

And hardline President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad told AFP that a US push for tough United Nations sanctions was of "no importance."

"She is free to say whatever she wants," the president replied when asked to respond to comments by US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice highlighting part of the UN charter that provides for sanctions backed up by the threat of military action.

"We give no importance to her comments," he said with a broad smile.

There is no sense of diplomacy with this regime. As I've said before, that's why we see none of the nuance that surrounded the confrontation with Iraq before the war.

It's difficult too know how really detached the Iranian leadership is from a clear perspective on the world, most specifically the United States. If they seriously think they can wage war with us, we know they're unhinged. But more likely, what they are threatening are terrorist tactics, because that's precisely what terrorists do.

With each announcement, each misguided, blustering attempt at diplomatically couched threat, Iran simply shows the world the very rationale for taking them out.

Unfortunately, thanks in part to Carter's betrayal of the Shah to appease our domestic Left, the delinquent kids from the corner have, not just broken in, but are now running the store. And their stock in trade of intolerance and hate is going to have to suffer the wrath of a fire sale, before it's sold and ultimately exported to too much of the world.

Is Iran picking up on liberal talking points? Iran said it could defeat any American military action over its controversial nuclear drive, in one of the Islamic regimes boldest challenges yet to the United States. You can start a war... [Read More]

Iraq- it's not a US quagmire. We've done our part now it's up the the Iragi people to take it from here. No one had to hold our hand developing the good ole USA.

I think the problem is: get rid of the 2-party system in this country so Dems can't bad-mouth/blame Repubs and vice-versa.....they're just excuses anyway. I'm sure Carter didn't know (foresight) that his decision would be so detrimental to the country. Do you think presidents deliberately try to mess things up for the future?

Iran is evil and must be dealt with...it's no one's fault, not Clinton's, not Bush's, not Carter's, not Reagan's......

Evil is just evil

Nice site, thanks. I really liked it, that's why I decided to leave my opinion. Very useful contents. I've been looking for information for a long time, and I've found it exactly here. Thank you

Does Iran really think that this President would not bat an eye going into Iran? I think the President has already made his mind up about Iran. JMO

Anyone here play chess? Then one would know how important it is to control the middle of the board.

No efficient commander would ever entertain going to war without various and sundry positions toward, on, over, or in that middle space. The USA has been beating the caca out of these self-proclaimed bad-asses.

Remember 1991? Duh. With the vastly superior air power, it would take less than one week to render Iran worth less than Iraq. Please remember that it was those two, Iraq v Iran for over 8 years at war. And neither country was closer or farther from winning it.

Until some of these posters around here understand the military idustrial complex owned and operated by the USA and partners I am of the position that they should just shut up. It is only when a man opens his mouth to speak that we find out how really fricking stupid he really is.

Does Iran have a delivery system for their so-called nukes? Are they going to try and confront us militarily on US soil? These folks are showing war ordinance--like a torpedo being launched from a fishing boat--and we're supposed to back down?

All we are doing is fortifying our position. Maintaining our edge with each and every move. Let's see: Equipped personnel in Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, several positions in Iraq, and lets of course remember that we have bases in Korea, Italy, and Turkey. Sounds like we got em' surrounded--that is of course if they decide on running when hell fire and brimstone comes raining down on them from vehicles they can't even see.

Saddam Hussein talked a pretty good game, too. He was found hiding in an underground "bunker" offering money to soldiers. This of course after his sons had met their end in Mosul.

There is NO QUAGMIRE! Okay we'll let em' think that. In reality, it's called "tactical readiness." In chess its called control of the board. In Iran its called suicide.

Iran seems to be playing a good game of chess here. The U.S. military is spread pretty thin between Afghanistan and Iraq. Some units have rotated through Iraq for the third time, the Guard has been heavily tapped, et cetera. The U.S. has big policy goals being backed up by a small military.

"Our military is completely consumed, so were there a real threat - thankfully, there is no real threat to the U.S. in the world, but were there one, we couldn't confront it. Right now, that may not be a bad thing, because that keeps Bush from trying something with Iran or with Venezuela."

I'm quite sure Iran knows they couldn't go head-to-head with the U.S. military, which is why I doubt they would try. They know that taking Iraq was easy for us, but holding it has been hard and expensive. I think they would take a page out of the Vietnamese playbook: don't fight the U.S. by pitting traditional military units against our military. Instead, use guerilla tactics (what the "insurgency" is doing now) against us that cause us to throw big, expensive weapons at small targets. I don't know of any major battle won by the Vietnamese military over the U.S. military, but I do know that South Vietnam no longer exists.

With regard to the Democrats being critical of the war in Iraq, I would say them Dems outmanuevered the Republicans on going to war. Since Congress no longer has the balls to declare war even though it is their job to do so (all this WMD nonsense wouldn't have survived a congressional inquiry as to whether we should declare war on Iraq), the Dems in Congress gave President Bush what he wanted, the ability to attack Iraq without interference. If the period after the invasion had resulted in the Iraqi people immediately united and instituted a peaceful, happy democracy and U.S. troops had left after 1 year, the Dems could say "we supported our President on this glorious mission." However, since we've been there for three years and conditions are such that we won't be pulling out any time soon (someone has to man those big bases we built), the Dems can say "we supported our President, but he mislead us, this mess isn't our fault." Basically, it has been a "win-win" political manuever for them.

Who is going to invade Iran?

Are they going to call up the senior citizens at the VFW homes to fight?

Are we going to turn tail and run in Iraq so we can go invade another country without enough troops and no plan for occupation?

Any military incursion against Iran will make the Iraq situation look like a cake walk, of course that reality may not prevent Bush from wanting to invade since he so clearly does not learn from his mistakes because he refuses to admit ever making them.
