There's always speculation about whether blog discussions are more food fight, than actual discussion, or even news. I think they are a bit of both and a whole lot more.
IMO to a good degree, most blog posts are works in progress and often require additional reading in comments or at other blogs to get a clear picture. But that's their value. They are more valuable as networks, as opposed to one stop shops. And that often lets new voices and viewpoints in the game ... unlike the MSM.
They aren't meant to be read like the Sunday paper, which is partly why they come with links.
