It worked for Kanye West, why not me? Now if I could only dance. It seems as though Reid and Schumer, who is heading the Dem's re-election effort, have no trouble at all dancing when the Nation's security and sovereignty are in play.
In private as well as public, Reid and Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., who heads the party's campaign effort, said they did not want to expose rank-and-file Democrats to votes that would force them to choose between border security and immigrant rights, only to wind up with legislation that would be eviscerated in future negotiations with the House, which has passed a bill limited to boosting border security.
There we have it, though that will be ignored by most of the MSM as they continue to froth over the Bush Leaked meme. Kennedy and Spectre at least appear willing to compromise.
Kennedy, who had seemed more eager than the Nevadan all week to find a compromise, declined several chances to offer a strong defense of his party's leader.
"It's not gone forward because there's a political advantage for Democrats not to have an immigration bill," asserted Specter.
Partisan bloggers can say what they like, but when the likes of Kennedy and Spectre call you out on something, it's difficult to argue this is just politics by the Republicans.
Once again we see that for Democrats it is always about trying to gain more power through the ballot box. Our Nation's real needs can go hang why they play games to position themselves for pending elections.
The House needs to stand resolutely for border control before amnesty if the voters are to be served.
Worse, we know that there are large demonstrations planned by pro-illegal immigration elements in days to come. Likely all of these inside the beltway types will have their fingers in the air monitoring that stench as it floats across America. Then they will hold their collective noses and drift with the prevailing wind.
Stephen Spruiell has more at NRO:
One Republican Senate staffer who's been working on the immigration bill tells NRO how it all went down:
It appears Frist is determined to undermine enforcement provisions, no doubt thinking of big donors for a potential Presidential bid I doubt he'll survive. Once again the Senate will swallow someone's Presidential ambitions. You can't build an image as a good executive while serving in such a notoriously compromising body as the Senate. And Frist's genuinely Conservative credentials appear to be noting more than his embracing of religion, which is far from what Conservatism is all about. One could argue he is the worst kind of Conservative politician.
