Apparently blogger Bill Hobbs resigned from Belmont University in the wake of a controversial blog post he made featuring a stick figure of Mohammed with the text "Mohammed Blows" near the bottom of the image.
Evidently he worked in the Public Relations area of the University.
Hopefully Hobbs will move forward and find even more satisfying employment in the near future. There are issues as to how the post came to broader attention. You can read details at link above. But, unfortunately, the outcome should not be viewed as unexpected or unfair once the posting came to light.
It's an unfortunate situation which hopefully other bloggers can learn from. Always keep your professional and personal life in mind before you hit publish when publishing under your known name.

So, we should allow the thought police to silence us?

Not at all. But any professional PR guy woukd lose his job over soemthing like that. It would also happen if it was Jesus bxxxx, or even a high profile political figure, I think. Why we confuse the protections given to professors, right or wrong, with the non-protections of professional employees has me a bit puzzled, frankly. Few PR pros could survive something like that.

If you are working for or representing a business or an institution in any way, you better watch what you say. That's the way it is in the real world. The net is no different but people seem to think it is.
