Dr. Steven Taylor references a previous post of mine on the leak story.
And a side note: I would recommend against the Clinton Card (not to pick on Dan Riehl): while Clinton may have done the same thing or worse really isn’t relevant here.
Here is what I posted in that regard:
Just like the non-stories that never surrounded all of Clinton's illegal and genuine leaks.
Mostly I loathe the Clinton card because, Steven's correct - rarely is that type of argument relevant in political discussion. Many bloggers are somewhat like cheerleaders for one side or the other and calling attention to last-year's team and its failings isn't advancing an argument. Which is why when I invoke Clinton I generally reference stories.
Trying to swipe at the Left with Clinton is simply rhetoric. But pointing out how much was written, or how vigorously a story was pursued by the MSM under a Democrat administration is really more about pointing out media bias, than arguing with the Left.
The media stands to lose much more than the blogging Left through the Plame story. Their eagerness to get what could still prove a non-story has positioned some of their high-profile members to be subpoenaed, with notebooks in hand. I suspect that more than one of them may have to admit under oath that they knew about Plame long before Libby opened his mouth. Might that not be a bitch of a headline for some to swallow?
That said, Steven's post is a solid recap of the recent blog burst from a reasonable and seemingly moderate point of view. I'd recommend it.
