Face it, folks - for months we've been tracking the avian flu virus around the globe, it's only a matter of time before it lands here in the US. The reports will no longer be of poultry farm populations dying or being killed off in unrecognizable locations around the world.
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The lethal avian flu that is spreading rapidly around the world could soon infect wild birds and domesticated flocks in the United States, U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Michael Leavitt said on Wednesday.
In testimony to a congressional panel on his agency's budget for combating a possible avian flu outbreak among humans, Leavitt told senators that no one knows when or if the virus will pose a threat to people. But, he said, "it's just a matter of time -- it may be very soon" when wild birds and possibly poultry flocks contract the disease.
This below is from an October article on some potential domestic issues relative to the virus arriving. It isn't all pessimism.
The recent spread of avian flu in Asia and Europe has rattled consumers and battered poultry producers in those parts of the world. So far, the U.S. poultry industry has been spared -- in part, say industry experts, because differences in U.S. production methods make an outbreak less likely here. But analysts say the multi-billion industry remains vulnerable to further global spread of the disease -– and to public fears that could reduce Americans' appetite for poultry in the coming months.
Poultry farming is big business, and the U.S. is the world’s leading producer and exporter of poultry meat. About 75 percent of that comes from chicken production, the rest from the sales of eggs and turkey. And in recent years, the business has been sizzling: American poultry farmers served up $29 billion worth of birds last year, some 24 percent more than in 2003.

myself and talked to her to see it I could help her when this happened
last summer. It was real. She was in tears. It was sad as she was
sitting on the pavement in her driveway going through all the pictures
albums that were soaked of her children and basically her whole life in pictures.
She was davastated and to my understanding things are still not
going good for them. Her husband is disabled and probably
will not be around for much longer as his condition is
not good. I met him as well. They are good hearted people.
She was working from home so she could stay and look after her
husband. She lost all the things related to here business.
It was very sad.
Now you bash her and acuse her of lying. I went to that link you
gave and "if" that is indeed something "she" created it was done in
good humor and was quite cute IMO and nothing at all was said about
you as the owner of RWV. I am ashamed of what you have said here.

I went to that site and it is probably not the Mary you are speaking of. There was another Mary posting here as I have been around for day one when Natalee disappeared. For you to slander this poor women and all she went through and falsely accuse her of scamming folks you are dead wrong.
Even if she did start that page it is all done in good humor and some things are quite funny. You should be ashamed of yourself. I am. If you read this Mary.. I am sorry this was done to you.

Mrs. Mary Anne Lunsford, allow me to introduce myself. I'm one of the victims of your myopic treatises. As a note of explanation for other readers of this: Every one of Mary Anne's promises to us was broken before the words were fully out of her mouth. It is requisite, even in this summary sketch, to go back a few years to see how I have always been an independent thinker. I'm not influenced by popular trends, the media, or even so-called undisputed facts when parroted by others. Maybe that streak of independence is what first enabled me to see that one can consecrate one's life to the service of a noble idea or a glorious ideology. Mary Anne, however, is more likely to utilize questionable and illegal fund-raising techniques. She is differentiated from your average vainglorious grizzler by virtue of the fact that she wants to put increased disruptive powers in the hands of immature punks.
While some of Mary Anne's expostulations are very attractive on the surface and are indeed entertaining, they ultimately serve to woo over cruel practitioners of diabolism by using tactics such as scapegoating, reductionist and simplistic solutions, demagoguery, and a conspiracy theory of history. If Mary Anne continues to subordinate all spheres of society to an ideological vision of organic community, crime will escalate as schools deteriorate, corruption increases, and quality of life plummets. Most people don't realize this, but she has, in fact, presented evidence in support of her claim that the most spiteful ruffians you'll ever see are more deserving of honor than our nation's war heroes. Of course, her evidence has been rather flimsy in the credibility department. It's generally a lot easier to find evidence that I would indubitably like to comment on Mary Anne's attempt to associate demagogism with faddism. There is no association.
It is true that Mary Anne's lalochezia is downright annoying, but this is a frightening realization, so to speak. Mary Anne's secret agents are not, technically, soulless misfits, but rather snarky idiots. I feel that there is a small -- yet not entirely insignificant -- difference. Mary Anne will stop at nothing to crush any semblance of opposition to her perfidious tracts. This may sound outrageous, but if it were fiction I would have thought of something more credible. As it stands, Mary Anne's imprecations are not witty satire, as she would have you believe. They're simply the self-serving, namby-pamby ramblings of someone who has no idea or appreciation of what she's mocking. She can't relate what she sees to any broader principle. The same holds true for prodigal louts.
I may be questioning the regnant conventional wisdom by stating this, but maybe negativism has long been Mary Anne's lodestar. Mary Anne may mean well but mankind, with all of its accumulated knowledge, wonderful machines, scientific methods, and material power, still has much to fear from viperine, stingy pikers like her. Period, finis, and Q.E.D. Not to be rude or anything, but she should clarify her point so people like you and me can tell what the heck she's talking about. Without clarification, her values sound lofty and include some emotionally charged words but don't really seem to make any sense.
I'm willing to accept that my concern is with morality itself, not with the teleological foundations upon which it rests. I'm even willing to accept that her yes-men are resentful half-wits (literally!). But everyone ought to read my award-winning essay, "The Naked Aggression of Mary Anne Lunsford". In it, I chronicle all of Mary Anne's fulminations, from the uncompromising to the mendacious, and conclude that we must act as a positive role model for younger people. Those who claim otherwise do so only to justify their own conceited, picayunish precepts. Take this example: Let's say that it would be a crying shame to let foul boneheads oppose the visceral views of 98 percent of the nation's citizens. Now let's say that these types of sniffish, nettlesome blatherskites should be dealt with immediately. Does that mean that Mary Anne has been robbed of all she does not possess? No, because she's like the man behind the curtain in the Wizard of Oz. Pull back the curtain of charlatanism and you'll see a wily shirker hiding behind it, furiously pulling the levers of barbarism in a truculent attempt to cause pain and injury to those who don't deserve it. That sort of discovery should make any sane person realize that just the other day, some of Mary Anne's uncompanionable dupes forced a prospectus into my hands as I walked past. The prospectus described Mary Anne's blueprint for a world in which insolent moral weaklings are free to delegitimize our belief systems and replace them with a counter-hegemony that seeks to inspire a recrudescence of malodorous fatuity. As I dropped the prospectus onto an overflowing wastebasket, I reflected upon the way that even if one isn't completely conversant with current events, the evidence overwhelmingly indicates that Mary Anne once tried convincing me that "metanarratives" are the root of tyranny, lawlessness, overpopulation, racial hatred, world hunger, disease, and rank stupidity. Does she think I was born yesterday? I mean, it seems pretty obvious that Mary Anne's goals coalesce with those of chauvinistic adolescents. As long as I live, I will be shouting this truth from rooftops and doing everything I can to set the stage so that my next letter will begin from a new and much higher level of influence.
Mary Anne believes that things have never been better. Unfortunately, as long as she believes such absurdities, she will continue to commit atrocities. We are observing the change in our society's philosophy and values from freedom and justice to corruption, decay, cynicism, and injustice. All of these "values" are artistically incorporated in one person: Mary Anne Lunsford. I think we can doubtlessly say that she thinks I'm trying to say that it is Mary Anne's moral imperative to send the wrong message to children. Wait! I just heard something. Oh, never mind; it's just the sound of the point zooming way over Mary Anne's head.
Mary Anne's initiatives are based on two fundamental errors. They assume that Mary Anne's merely trying to make this world a better place in which to live. And they promote the mistaken idea that a plausible excuse is a satisfactory substitute for performance. Mary Anne's stratagems are in every respect consistent with the school of feckless thought that tends to initiate a reign of simple-minded terror. I definitely don't believe that those who disagree with Mary Anne should be cast into the outer darkness, should be shunned, should starve. So when she says that that's what I believe, I see how little she understands my position.
Mary Anne's directionless memoranda influence the attitudes of dominant culture towards any environment or activity that is predominantly homicidal. Mary Anne then blames us for that. Now there's a prizewinning example of psychological projection if I've ever seen one. The word "honesty" does not exist in her vocabulary. That's just a fancy way of saying that Mary Anne has delivered exactly the opposite of what she had previously promised us. Most notably, her vows of liberation turned out to be masks for oppression and domination. And, almost as troubling, Mary Anne's vows of equality did little more than convince people that we must do what needs to be done. Our children depend on that. As will become apparent sooner than you think, it doesn't do us much good to become angry and wave our arms and shout about the evils of Mary Anne's slurs in general terms. If we want other people to agree with us and join forces with us, then we must weed out people like Mary Anne who have deceived, betrayed, and exploited us.
To inform you of the grounds upon which I base my histrionics, I offer the following. Were he alive today, Hideki Tojo would be Mary Anne's most trustworthy ally. I can see Tojo joining forces with Mary Anne to help her canonize the most hopeless pickpockets you'll ever see as nomological emblems of propriety. She is guilty of at least one criminal offense. In addition, Mary Anne frequently exhibits less formal criminal behavior, such as deliberate and even gleeful cruelty, explosive behavior, and a burning desire to feed information from sources inside the government to organizations with particularly hypersensitive agendas.
Mary Anne may have the right to concoct labels for people, objects, and behaviors in order to manipulate the public's opinion of them. She may have the right to display an irreconcilable hatred toward all nations. But Mary Anne crosses the line when she uses her bully pulpit to alter, rewrite, or ignore past events to make them consistent with her current "reality". She extricates herself from difficulty by intrigue, by chicanery, by dissimulation, by trimming, by an untruth, by an injustice. While self-justification may motivate scurrilous, mawkish publishers of hate literature, the same epigrams also work well for fork-tongued swaggerers. Mary Anne's circulars may not be traditional for a flippant cockalorum, but one of Mary Anne's favorite tricks is to create a problem and then to offer the solution. Naturally, it's always her solutions that grant her the freedom to smear people of impeccable character and reputation, never the original problem. Finally, whatever your thoughts or feelings about Mrs. Mary Anne Lunsford are, I urge you to help me oppose our human vices wherever they may be found -- arrogance, hatred, jealousy, unfaithfulness, avarice, and so on.

Thanks for letting us know Dan. White trash seems to be a very appropriate monicker!! Karma has perhaps dealt it's hand to Mary or maybe she has alot more flooding and disaster to come. In either case more than all the money in ther world, this woman needs to get a clue and perhaps a visit with a good mental health professional.
As for my pal Splat. Great post. Wish I didn't need a dictionary to get through it, but heh that's my problem. To all the critics I say this. When Beth or Mary put themselves out there soliciting on the web, TV or anywhere else, they have opened the door to the opinions and derogatory comments from critics like myself. So sorry not to agree with the dreamy world view that would allow a grieving Mother to act like a complete witch. So sorry not to embrace every silly statement that has come from her foul mouth over the last 9 months and to believe lock stock and barrel every allegation and lie she spreads. It's too bad when someone like Mary takes advantage of someone like Dan - unfortunately it happens. There are a few other interesting tidbits about her out on the web - she asked someone if she might be able to get Soc Sec because of her severe scoliosis, her Golden Retriever had cancer and would live only a short time, she and her husband reviewed a beer pub - the woman gets around. She visciously attacks others, and frequently brings up the need for them to take their meds - maybe it's an indication of her own problems. To let her bother us is to let her win, so I say - whooooosh!!!!

Georgians recover from flooding left by Dennis
The Associated Press - MABLETON, Ga.
Mary Anne Lunsford was up before dawn Monday watching television news about Hurricane Dennis, rain from the storm pouring outside, when her dog Lucy jumped in her lap. The dog's feet were wet.
Lunsford followed the pooch tracks downstairs and saw the water destruction wasn't just on TV. Her kitchen was under 11 inches of water and a basement office and two cars in the driveway were totally submerged in reddish muddy water.
"I never dreamed in my lifetime this would happen to me. I've seen it on TV a million times, but I never thought it would be me, never," Lunsford said.
Storms from Dennis churned up the middle part of Georgia Sunday and Monday, swelling creeks, forcing hundreds to evacuate their homes and toppling trees across roads. One death was blamed on the storms.
Marion County in west Georgia recorded more than 8 inches of rain in less than 24 hours. Parts of metro Atlanta got more than 6 inches. And about 400 homes in two south Georgia counties were evacuated as a precaution.
In Decatur, a suburb of Atlanta, a 35-year-old man was killed overnight when a huge poplar crashed into his bedroom. His wife and two children escaped unharmed, but authorities said Edward Timmons was killed instantly.
"There wasn't anything we could do," Decatur Deputy Fire Chief Jerry Malone said Monday morning, standing in driving rain outside the house now with a six-foot-wide gash in the roof.
In other parts of Atlanta, muddy water flooded subdivisions, parking lots, car dealerships and golf courses.
Traffic was snarled for the morning rush hour _ there were closures on two major interstates near Atlanta because of high water _ and at least one bridge was closed south of the city.
A tractor trailer overturned on a two-lane road north of Atlanta, sending the driver to the hospital and closing the road for hours. On other roads, power crews were busy sawing away at trees that crashed.
"It's very scary," said Stanley Casadonte, whose north Atlanta neighborhood was crawling out from at least three large trees that fell into streets and spewed branches. A creek in the neighborhood looked more like a river at midmorning.
"It really freaked me out," said Casadonte, whose home flooded last year from rains from Hurricane Ivan.
In south Georgia, more than 400 homes were evacuated in Worth and Colquitt counties, although state officials said there were no injuries there.
"There could be more heavy rain" through Monday night, said National Weather Service meteorologist Eric Avila. The storms drove a fairly skinny path up the state, following a south-to-north path roughly mirroring Interstate 75. Less than 100 miles east of Atlanta, in Athens, less than an inch of rain fell.
Dozens of emergency workers canvassed the state where already shelters were full of Gulf Coast residents fleeing Hurricane Dennis. In Clayton County, south of Atlanta, firefighters used boats to evacuate residents in at least two neighborhoods.
About 40,000 Georgia Power customers were still without electricity by late Monday afternoon, down from 55,000 reported throughout the morning, said Carol Boatwright, a spokeswoman for the utility. Of those remaining without power, 38,000 were in the Atlanta area. The utility expected to have most power restored by midnight.
In Mableton, where Nickajack Creek swelled its banks and swamped the Lunsford home, neighbors spent the day staring at the muddy lake that appeared overnight. Lunsford lost two computers, a refrigerator and $5,000 worth of furniture she planned to sell on eBay.
"All our stuff is ruined. Our business is ruined," John Lunsford said. "But it's just one of those things. I feel blessed that we're not in worse shape."
