On The Ground In Iraq

The real ground, in the real Iraq.

I'M trying. I've been trying all week. The other day, I drove another 30 miles or so on the streets and alleys of Baghdad. I'm looking for the civil war that The New York Times declared. And I just can't find it.

Maybe actually being on the ground in Iraq prevents me from seeing it. Perhaps the view's clearer from Manhattan. It could be that my background as an intelligence officer didn't give me the right skills.

What amazes me is how the MSM fails to take into account human nature in its reporting on Iraq. US forces are not committing acts of random violence on Iraqi citizens, nor are we blowing up their mosques and markets. The terrorists the MSM disingenuously calls insurgents are.

If given a choice any people is going to choose the path of stability, security and freedom. What needs happen is that America remain strong in the face of current troubles and provide the face of that brighter future which any civilization is ultimately going to come to recognize as desirable progress.

It isn't the masses we are fighting in Iraq, it is the might of the few with an oppressive agenda. And in the end if the masses are given enough room, time and security to stand up, do not doubt that they will. They already are. Read the rest.
