CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (AP) -- A British man accused of killing his wife and infant daughter was indicted by a grand jury Tuesday on first-degree murder charges.
Neil Entwistle, 27, has been held without bail in a Cambridge jail since he was arraigned Feb. 16 in the death of his wife, Rachel, 27, and their 9-month-old daughter, Lillian Rose.
Entwistle pleaded innocent at the February arraignment.
The grand jury indictment, a standard legal procedure in criminal cases, moves the case to Middlesex Superior Court, where a new arraignment is expected in the next two weeks.
Prosecutors allege that Entwistle shot his wife and daughter in their rented home in Hopkinton on Jan. 20 after becoming despondent over rising debts. He flew to his parents' home in England the day after the killings, and the bodies were later discovered in a bedroom after friends and relatives began to worry.
Entwistle allegedly told a state police detective that he returned home after running errands to find his wife and daughter dead. He said he thought about killing himself but couldn't go through with it, according to investigators' affidavits.

Well, you know what thought did.................

why have you guys aim your comments at neil entwistle over the past few weeks, when he cannot even read your comments himself? it would be his family who would get to read your comments - and don't you think that they have suffered enough? they lost a dear daughter-in-law and darling grandchild. i was taught by rachel in england, and was very found of her and lillian. you may have strong feelings about what neil is accused of doing, so just imagine what we are all feeling - where it is barely covered by the news, where we found out on the internet and thought it was a sick joke! sites like these keep us updated, and it nice to see it affecting so many people on both sides of the atlantic
and if anyone asks me, the person who has done this should not get the death sentence as that is the easy way out and makes us as bad as they are. neither should they be locked up, as the public would have to pay to keep them for the rest of their lifes. let them go and see what the public make of them - that would be a real punishment.

We leave our comments here because we can. We are trying to make sense of all of this. It is up to whoever if they decide to log on and read, however we are not trying to hurt Rachels family in any way. Some of us have had speculations about Neils parents and what their intentions seemed to be while he was there. Freedom of speech. It's a very sad story all the way around and back and forth across the ocean.

for from redditch: There is mounting frustration in America for all of the terrible crimes we read about day after day. I don't have the answers to stop these crimes. We read daily about abused children, murdered spouses, parents, children. This is a great venue for letting off some steam to keep ourselves sane. (BTW, if I haven't told you lately, THANKS, DAN!)
There was a great feeling of injustice when we all saw the pictures of beautiful Rachel and Lillian, and such disbelief that a man could kill his own flesh and blood, and his wife whom he purported to love. I don't think any comments have been directed towards Neil's parents, unless it was a comment about them harbouring a fugitive, which they indeed had done. I am sure if they did read posts they may take it personal, after all they raised a killer. I don't mean that in an ugly way, I am just stating the obvious.
On another note: When it was first brought about Neil murdered his family because of rising debt, and it was all coming to a head, I thought...That's crazy. Then I remembered an aquaintance of mine whose father murdered her mother while she lay in bed asleep. It was because of debt! He's serving the rest of his life in jail at the moment. Hi Abby =)

It is a bit ironic that if a guy kills his wife and kids because of some kind of pressure, everybody is out to hang, draw and quarter, yet, this minister's wife who shot her husband in the back seems to be getting a lot of sympathy, even before people know why she killed him. He is no less dead than Neil Entwistles wife and child.
Who knows what kind of pressures are going on inside marriages, and yes, debt can be a killer!
I don't believe that Neil Entwistle is the same kind of person as Scott Peterson who killed to be free to go off with the other woman, and maybe also for money.
On the face of it, it appears he got out of his depth with the stress of debt and all, and then instead of doing himself in as well (as happens many times), he chickened out.
However, appearances can be deceptive, and as a person should be innocent until proven guilty, I may be wrong!

Hey girlfriend! (JNS)
Debt is the "American Way". Half the country would be killing each other over debt if it was a valid excuse. I don't buy it--in any form. Geez, I've been in debt since I entered college 15 years ago. Uhhh, do I take it out on my husband who I have known for 8 years? NO!
If they were in debt that much why the huge house in a very expensive part of the country? Why the expensive SUV? They could have moved to Florida and bought a house for a quarter of what they rented that one for. Who approved them rent anyway? No jobs, no income?
I think Neil and Scott are of the same kind. Both wimps, not men. They both defied their families and vowes. Both are killers. Divorce-- as hard as it would have been would have saved 4 lives in these cases. Sure hard on the wives, but they would have made it and SURVIVED!

I agree Abby. It's not like they had to leave Rachel's parents house, buy $88 worth of (4) candles for their dinner party, etc. Money worries can be a killer, but I have been soooo low in the money department, that I can not understand killing to be rid of the shame, only to gain the shame of being a murderer. There is definitely some screws loose among us.
Annie, I think we could start an entire new thread devoted to the discussion of how we as humans react to men vs. women as murderers. I think because typically women do not murder as much as men, we always first assume they are a victim to something that pushed them that far. And since men murder more often than their female counterparts, we automatically assume that the man is at fault. I mean, how many women serial killers have you read about?

There have actually been quite a number of very successful women serial killers, and they seem to get away with it longer because they are usually care givers who nobody suspects, e.g. nurses.
One of the most 'successful' female killers was Mary Ann Cotton in England who murdered with arsenic, and she got away with it for years, even killing her own children, who she first insured. Everybody who knew her thought she was a lovely, kind, woman, never suspecting that she was killing the people she looked after. She was eventually hanged, but there were still people who were trying to stop this, though if it had been a man who had done the same he would not have been shown the same concern.
If you were to get onto the subject you would probably find many, but of course, the most sucessful are the ones we never got to know about, and I bet there were many.
Regarding these serial killers I am talking about psychopaths, but of course, I think 'there but for the grace of God' there could be many of us for whom it might be a one off given the circumstances and if we felt driven to do it. There must be many people who have found themselves in that situation, and would never have believed it could have happened that they would ever kill anybody, until, hey presto, they have!!

I think the men vs. women thing is so valid. We are made up differently. Moms are so "delicate" with their kids feelings IMO where dads are a "matter of fact" and have sterner voices. I was always much more afraid of my father then my mom.
annie--you only mentioned one which was in the 1800's.

If you look up female serial killers you will get them, they are out there. However, I believe they are more successful than men because of their care role, and people are loath to suspect a mum or a nurse would harm somebody they are taking care of.
There have probably been literally thousands of female serial killers over the years who have got away with it and taken their secret to the grave. It is just that men are too obvious, they use guns and knives and things like that, whereas a woman's favourite weapon is often poison which nobody is looking out for, and can be put down to some kind of illness.

Annie, that's cause women are smarter ;-) IMHO!!
Okay, some new links in case anyone visits this old thread:
http://www.bostonherald.com/entwistleMurders/view.bg?articleid=134735
This is an interesting link above. Supposedly, Neil was on a swinger site and had submitted a picture of himself in the NUDE, and in a full state of arousal! No pic at the link (hahaha) but interesting story none-the-less. What a scumbag he turned out to be.
And this link: http://news.bostonherald.com/galleries/?title=EntwistleStatement#photo
Which is a court document that I had not seen yet. It says Neil rented a car once back in England, he stayed in a motel the first night, drove around England THEN went to his parent's house. It also states some lies he told his friends while back in England.

He's just nasty. What's that "smirk" doing on his face? I heard about how he told some people one thing--that he "mourned" his wife and daughter's death before hopping a flight to England, and oh by the way he stated he does not recall to others. He forgot his meds again!
