Update:
Realizing there's a part two, barring some unforeseen developments, people are going to have to get their minds around the notion that Natalee may have simply met her fate either from another passerby, or while making her way back to the hotel.
Like him or not, an eighteen year old kid went into the lion's den (ohhh, not THAT, again) and sat down and told what he had to say. Conspiracy theorists will look for and perhaps even see even more obvious clues, but so far I didn't see nary a one.
Joran has to be bright enough to know he opened himself up to all sorts of risks by going on the record, with Greta no less, given her obvious bias displayed in her, um, reporting. I'm sure most will stay tuned for part two tomorrow night. But without some serious new development, it's hard to see this thing going anywhere as far as Joran is concerned.
Obviously, some will disagree.
Update 2: Okay, assuming many of my readers are not monkeys, or something - please allow me to spell this out. Neither you, nor I, nor Fox, nor anyone else, or any other blog has the absolutely authoritative, official records and transcripts of all this. ALE and the prosecutor in Aruba do. If any of this is earth shattering, or somehow incorrect, it is them and only them who can make that determination. And if they do, aside from the however many of you that are still yelling cover up, the ALE will do additional interrogations, and or arrests. Get it?
Comparing what you are hearing now to last months blog entry, here or anywhere else, is simply a manic compulsion a few too many of you seem to have. And in the end, it will get you nothing but more and more confused. I mean this all in a nice way, but, yes, I am serious. We have never been sure of what statements have or haven't been made, and God forbid you have been relying on Fox News. If there is no formal action from any of this, you can rest assured it's because there are no discrepancies from the official record.
But, relax, between tomorrow night and who knows when, you will likely get your chance, again. Rumor has it the Larry King Show is in Aruba. What a media circus. What's next? Dancing with the starzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. ; )

Nothing really groundbreaking so far in the interview, though he did say they actually went to his house but didn't go in.
Apparently the deal with Natalee supposedly asking him to win money back for her was a lie as well, which I find odd.

well. given tonight's interview, i don't see any reason not to believe him and i'm thinking greta probably agrees.
Posted by: skirtgirl | Wednesday, March 01, 2006 at 10:56 PM
Well no one will be surprised at my saying this - but Joran did a great job - much better than Primetime - relaxed, not arrogant, good eye contact! I just do not see this young man as a bad person!! He seems like a typical teen to me!

A lie? It wasn another girl. Why people assume we had full information all along is beyond me. I have always said much of it was rumor or confused.

It wasn't another girl? My understanding was that he said that it was another girl tonight.

"let's go fast?" what were they trying to get away from so quickly?
Posted by: skirtgirl | Wednesday, March 01, 2006 at 11:00 PM
No, that is just what we thought happened that it was Natalee - see this is where I get angry - so many of you people think you know everything - and we basically only knew snippets of information that 1/2 the time was about a different person, a different time and lots of misinformation. Natalee apparently never needed his help winning back money. How could she have used Joran for that he was a couple people over at the table.
Posted by: Jan | Wednesday, March 01, 2006 at 11:02 PM
Shocking racist comments were made up. You can tell. Now he's blaming Satish for speeding away from Natalee. Without the goodbye. The lies continue.....

uh, because it was late, hew as doing a friend a favor and wanted to get home maybe?

LOL God could come down and say it was true and some would still see him lying. Greta is a lawyer, former prosecutor? Didn't look like she got him off balance or lying to me.
Posted by: Dan | Wednesday, March 01, 2006 at 11:05 PM
Wasn't it your info, Dan that it was Deepak that escorted Natalee from C&C's? Joran says he was holding her hand along w/ Satish.
Posted by: wreck | Wednesday, March 01, 2006 at 11:05 PM
I think that this interview will be chacterized by the questions that she failed to ask like:
You bought her a shot of 151 and you bought one for yourself. Did you both drink them?
Posted by: Bizarre | Wednesday, March 01, 2006 at 11:06 PM
When she asked him anything about Deepak and whether he liked going to CnC, etc., he kept saying "You'll have to ask him." But when she asked whether Deepak liked his car, and liked it a lot, He said yes. For some reason he doesn't want to talk about Deepak as relates to events of that night.
Posted by: petunia | Wednesday, March 01, 2006 at 11:07 PM
dan, how come Greta had a problem looking him in the eye? her eyes were bouncing all over the place.
Posted by: Bizarre | Wednesday, March 01, 2006 at 11:07 PM
He said they both had a drink of 151 - were you not listening?

Right, except the story was from Charles Croes that it was Natalee who asked Joran to win the money back for her.

hi dan!!! anyone know who *kathleen* was???? sorry....senior moment....LOL....
Posted by: dani | Wednesday, March 01, 2006 at 11:09 PM
oh I was listening. Were you? Buying a drink and having a drink and drinking down that drink are different things and when you assume you make an ass out of me and you.
Posted by: Bizarre | Wednesday, March 01, 2006 at 11:09 PM
From what I heard from the interview Joran said that both of them "had a shot" which in other words means yes it went down his and her drain...
Posted by: Jack | Wednesday, March 01, 2006 at 11:13 PM
A few observationsand questions,
1)He says they seen other couples on the beach....has any of them come forward to say they seen them?
2)The slave comments seem weird even Joran states that the Kalpoes didn't hear them...seems to me like they were meant to demonize Natalee.
3)Why leave Natalee without saying goodbye and leave in a hurry.... why leave expensive shoes behind?
4)He says they walked right next to the Merriott Hotel heading to the beach, does the Merriott have cameras that could verify that?
5)Seems strange that anyone would agree to wait at home to pick someone up at 2:30-3:00 am to take that person back home, just seems odd to me.

Yep, guess that witness was wrong. The FBI has interviewed everyone, any discrtepancies will have to be cleared up through them.
Posted by: Dan | Wednesday, March 01, 2006 at 11:16 PM
Thanks Jack - I thought they both had 151 down their pipes too!
Posted by: Jan | Wednesday, March 01, 2006 at 11:16 PM
Mike, re point 3--perhaps he told the Kalpoes afterwards about an alleged slave comment to make them dislike her and go along with his coverup plan
Posted by: petunia | Wednesday, March 01, 2006 at 11:17 PM
Sorry, he is still not credible, but getting better at every interview, adding and subtracting details to increase his believability.
Still no reason why they don't go in the house that makes sense.
He can't recall any conversation with Natalee but claims he wasn't drunk and felt no effects of liquor.
Satish and he leave the beach fast and don't say goodbye? Hmmm.
Racist comment thrown in from left field, also not credible coming from someone Natalee's age from Mountain Brook, it would never happen.
He starts lying as soon as is talking about the three of them getting together and arriving at C&C, everything else he says is part truth only.
Posted by: xxx | Wednesday, March 01, 2006 at 11:17 PM
Is Bacardi 151 a powerful drink....what would it do to a 110lb woman?
Sorry I don't drink and have no idea of its effects.
Posted by: Mike | Wednesday, March 01, 2006 at 11:17 PM
Yes, clearly that witness is wrong, because someone who has told four different stories is probably telling the truth now.

I knew someone would say that. Teenage guys are teenage guys. This is how they behave. Contrary to what you might bleieve, all over the US on the weekend guys will leave their friend somewhere with a girl and go back and get them. It just happens.
you sort of have to "read between the lines".
Posted by: bizarre | Wednesday, March 01, 2006 at 11:20 PM
Your welcome Jan, was it said that he had expensive shoes? not that it really mathers.. I never heard that at any point.
About the ride back, I assume that it could be weird, but Joran said that their house is very close to the hotels.. could it be weird? if it was very close?
Posted by: Jack | Wednesday, March 01, 2006 at 11:21 PM
Also seems odd for Deepak to be waiting in his car instead of hanging out with his friend in C&C's...isn't that why he went there to have fun?
Posted by: Mike | Wednesday, March 01, 2006 at 11:21 PM

I'll have to take your word on that....I sure as hell wouldn't be waiting like a Chaufer to pick someone up at 3:00am.

Not really a huge deal but still odd to go to a bar (first of night) at 12:15 when it closes at 1am.
Posted by: wreck | Wednesday, March 01, 2006 at 11:24 PM
kathleen was kathleen weaverly...new to me....also first i heard SATISH picked up Joran....hmmmmmm
Posted by: dani | Wednesday, March 01, 2006 at 11:24 PM
Well anytime you are buying shoes like KSwiss they probably go for 50 or 60 - but guys are usually not as passionate about their shoes as a female is - and like Roger posted over on scrux, once a guy has had to do an akward goodbye - I mean the last thing you want to do is go back and get shoes. Besides a person might hope they would be there the next day.

kathleen weatherly....sorry....

I'm almost willing to give JVDS the benefit of the doubt up to the point where he says they went to his house...everything after that sounds contrived to me; wanting to see sharks and especially the story about taking her to the beach...you could almost feel him squirm when Greta asked him if he expected the Kalpoes to go home and then drive back to get him (at 3:30am?)...does he expect people to believe this?...and then he says the beach was busy, there were lots of people there (at 3:00am on a Sunday night?); of course no one has come forward to say they saw them on the beach, probably because it's a baloney story...you have to wonder what was the motivation for the Kalpoes to come out that night...JVDS says the Kalpoes live 20 minutes away from him by car..and they're willing to pick him up to go to Carlos & Charlies at 12:30am, knowing the bar is closing in a half-hour?..it just sounds real pre-meditated that the plan was to get 1 of the Alabama girls back to his apartment; it would seem there's a high probability she went in there and never came out alive.
Posted by: Peter | Wednesday, March 01, 2006 at 11:26 PM
Well, guys in college certainly do things like that for each other - if one guy has a car and others dont and your friends then you just pick someone up. Deepak did not have work til 3 the next day - guys probably stay up late anyways - this is not a major hang up item in this whole deal!
Posted by: Jan | Wednesday, March 01, 2006 at 11:26 PM
Mike, I don't recall that he said much about deepak. so we don't know whether he even stayed in C&C's or whether he went in surveyed the scene and then left and went somewhere else. I guess what we really need is an interview with Deepak to find out where he was and what he was doing and if he stayed at C&C's or left and went elsewhere or was off in a corner and not noticeable and then just went out to his car. These are really interesting questions for which I don't think we have the answers.

True, Ksswiss shoes are pretty expensive. But with his slobberyness I guess he probably would have let the shoes at the beach, I have research many pictures of Joran online and it seems that he doesn't really care about his personal stuff & how he dresses. What I'm trying to say is that he might have just left it because he had exams the next morning, anyone heard were he was picked up?
Posted by: Jack | Wednesday, March 01, 2006 at 11:29 PM
Peter,
I think you are close
Bits of the truth mixed with lies.
Remember Joran stated he didn't want to wake his dad & brothers by taking Nat to his apartment. Well, tonight, he states they go by the house, but don't enter. Also, the Kalpoes come by to pick him up. Well, wouldn't that wake Pops VDS?
Posted by: bamaguy11 | Wednesday, March 01, 2006 at 11:30 PM
I was curious about the comment on why the didn't go to Joran's house. On the ABC interview it was because Dad and bros were sleeping. With Greta they were outside but Natalee wanted to see sharks. I think his version gets very cloudy here. Anyone agree?
Posted by: Aboot | Wednesday, March 01, 2006 at 11:30 PM

I agree Jan...just seemed strange to me ....Maybe I'm getting to old.
Any idea the effect of Bacardi 151 on a small woman?....I have read it can have a big effect even on a man.
Dan have any info about the other girl that say Natalee made the Hitler comment that Joren refers to?
Posted by: Mike | Wednesday, March 01, 2006 at 11:32 PM
Peter, that was memorial day weekend and apparently that place was packed to the gills. Not a hotel room to be found. Early on posters reported that people came over in their yachts to hear the concert and had to sleep on the yachts. There were a lot of wealthy professional types there for the concert. They work hard and they play hard. Wouldn't want to waste even a minute sleeping when you could do it on the beach the next day. Had to have been people around. Can't believe with some much activity they rolled up the beach and the sidewalks and all went to bed. just seems implausible. so, many people did come forward and they do have affadavits.
Posted by: Bizarre | Wednesday, March 01, 2006 at 11:32 PM
Bizarre,
Tonight, Joran stated that Deepak waited in the car (which was parked behind C&C's). According to Joran, Deepak left C&C's first...followed by Joran, Natalee, & Satish.
Posted by: bamaguy11 | Wednesday, March 01, 2006 at 11:33 PM
Also seems odd for Deepak to be waiting in his car instead of hanging out with his friend in C&C's...isn't that why he went there to have fun?
According to one kid, as I have posted, Deepak had a scuffle with an MB kid that night - didnt turn into much of anything, a spilled drink deal, but someone was told to go outside for a bit and cool off. Maybe Deepak just figured he was better off leaving a little ahead, or not going back in.
Posted by: Dan | Wednesday, March 01, 2006 at 11:34 PM
its no longer a matter of truth or lies, folks, its now a matter of slightly changing your story at every interview to protect yourself from previous slipups and the lawsuit. i think the proper perspective, and for you too Dan, is to look at how much weight you want to give to his statements at this time, rather than continually go round and round about whether he is lying or telling the truth. Are his statements relevant, and, if so, how much weight are you going to give to that particular statement. Otherwise, the discussion is like a dog chasing its tail and leads to endless wrangling and temperamental outbursts rather than a sober look at what he is saying. If Greta Interview Number One shed little light on understanding the disappearance, then discount it and go on to Number Two, tomorrow.
Posted by: jackson80 | Wednesday, March 01, 2006 at 11:35 PM
Could anybody recall if Satish and deepak was waiting for JVDS in the car while Joran was partying? was it stated in the interview?
Posted by: Jack | Wednesday, March 01, 2006 at 11:35 PM
Bamaguy, I really wish she would put up a transcript...because everyone hear and see things differently and a transcript is pretty definitive.
Posted by: Bizarre | Wednesday, March 01, 2006 at 11:36 PM
did the security guards disappear? are they still 'suspects' or is that to keep them from talking? where did they really work? do beaches have security guards? at night?
