Is this like Physics, or a sign of life beyond earth?

Perhaps if you had paid attention in science class or watch "Cosmos" you would have seen this before. Carl covered this equation quite thoroughly in his book and TV show.
Bottom line, if you buy the equation, is that the chances of life on planets other than ours is pretty good. Problem is that the most conservative estimates would still place signficant space between us and a likely place where other life exists.
Of course, that is if you can believe science that says we're on a planet a billion years old. You know, the same science that allows us to discuss topics here.

Mental masturbation. They always leave off the ifs between each term of the "equation". Lots of ifs, lots more than facts.
But feel free. As Bluto observed, "It don't cost nothin'".

AfghanVet,
"Of course, that is if you can believe science that says we're on a planet a billion years old. You know, the same science that allows us to discuss topics here."
And this has exactly what to do with what? Last estimate had the age of the earth at between 4.5 billion and 7.3 billion.
Rats. I missed the point altogether. God did it. Therefore, the earth is about 6,000 years old. My bad.
Afghan dude - you are way smart. I way off the truth.

Mojo,
"They always leave off the ifs between each term of the "equation". Lots of ifs, lots more than facts."
It's theory. :) THEORY. THEORY. THEORY. THEORY.
You get to take the ubiquitous 'ifs' out when it is no longer a THEORY but FACT.
Any chance, from all your masturbation, that you can help eliminate some of those 'ifs'??????

The earth is presently assumed to be 4.5 billion years old with single-cell life occuring 4 billion years past. There are at least 20 factors that must work in harmony for life to persist on this planet and if they vary even slightly, the party is over.

Oh Dan how I love these brain ticklers. A case where the more wrinkles the better (in the brain).
