But the emperor has no nads ... er, I mean clothes. Yeah, that's the ticket. But permit me to address this foolishness seriously.
Ms. Hood is a lesbian.
Of or relating to females who experience a sexual attraction toward and responsiveness to other females; a homosexual female.
Had Ms. Hood won homecoming Queen as an acknowledged lesbian, it would be substantive progress for the homosexual community, at least within the admittedly very small context of Hood College. Unfortunately, by Ms. Hood's insistence on running for King and not Queen, she turned the entire thing into a counter-productive and mostly superficial PR stunt.
Because of that tactic, the real issue which comes into play is not homosexuality, but gender sameness. As I pointed out in my opening sentence, it simply ain't so. And for far more reasons than those two.
It is precisely that - advocates confuse the difference between championing lesbian rights and trying to convince people that men and women are interchangeable, in essence, the same - which causes so much push back against their mostly misguided efforts.
Ultimately, many don't even understand the issue they are allegedly championing, so people end up thinking they're real nuts! But they ain't.
They're only very confused it would seem.
FREDERICK — As Hood College celebrated its second annual homecoming last month, the naming of a female student as Homecoming King elicited both criticisms and praise.
Jen Jones, 21, a Hood senior, said she didn't even know she was nominated until she saw her name on the ballot.
Of the total 169 votes cast for king, Ms. Jones received 64, earning her the title, which was announced at a semiformal dance Feb. 18.

I havnt read the article, the server appears to be down. But you quoted, "Jen Jones, 21, a Hood senior, said she didn't even know she was nominated until she saw her name on the ballot." You also said "Unfortunately, by Ms. Hood's insistence on running for King and not Queen", inferring that "she turned the entire thing into a counter-productive and mostly superficial PR stunt". It seems you are mistaken -- if she was not responsible for the nomination and the vote, then how is it her fault it was turned into a counter-productive and superficial PR stunt?
To be honest, I laughed out loud when I read this. At a homecomming! But why is this so important? Sure, its funny, why not leave it at that?

Ms. Jones, who is openly gay, attempted last year to run for Homecoming Prince. Although she had the required number of petition signatures, the school's homecoming committee ruled against listing her name on the prince ballot.
This year's committee decided to abolish petitions for the nomination process.

Now I get it, she's a lesbian so she can't be a Queen.
So did a gay man win the Queen category?
