Not being from Texas, I don't know if this is primarily a Mexican population, or not. Either way, someone better get their butts back in school. One almost expects this kind of silliness in California, particularly as it's Spring. But Texas? Yeah ... I know. What percentage of the population in Texas is Mexican, anyway?
Still, no one can tell me these kids have half a mind of the complex issues behind what it is they are even protesting about.
FORT WORTH, Texas -- Students rushed Dallas City Hall Tuesday in the second day of marches for the rights of illegal immigrants, leaving at least three injured; students also gathered at Kiest Park in Oak Cliff and Fort Worth City Hall.
The students flooded the most floors of Dallas City Hall, disrupting a council meeting, before police and security guards managed to usher them back out. Councilwoman Elba Garcia left a closed-door meeting to used a police-car public address system to ask students to return to school.
Hundreds of students were gathered outside Dallas City Hall with flags and signs. Several students were seen wading in the reflecting pond in front of City Hall.
One girl was carried out of the water and attended to by paramedics. At least one other person was injured moments later.
Of course, that doesn't seem to matter to our spineless politicians who will pass enforcements that are never going to be enforced. I am in favor of controlled immigration, from Mexico, or anywhere else. But our borders are out of control and someone better step up to the plate and do something about that.
If they don't, they could eventually be looking at a Minute Man type of thing times ten. And it won't be about green cards, amnesty or deportations.

All the flags that the protesters and marchers are waving are Mexican. They're in the U.S. they want to stay in the U.S., the U.S. is supporting them, how about waving a United States flag.

Our borders are out of control and now, so are the schools. These students received "an unexcused abscence" for leaving school. Oh that will show them! Geeze! I watched the interviews of some of these kids. They have no idea.

Mexico has essentially reclaimed the Southwestern United States we appropriated following the Texas War for Independence and the Mexican-American War. We just need to redraw the lines, then Americans living in Texas, Calif., and other parts of the old U.S Southwest can apply for guest worker status with the government of Mexico.

One 18 year old high school student exclaims that her uncle is here illegally and that "he is not a criminal." My logic is that if a law is broken, then a crime is committed; the one who commits the crime is the criminal. No? Oh, well. I shake my head in total amazement at the insane rhetoric the politicians are pouring out lately regarding the proposal of new laws. The ones on the books aren't enforced and now they want to enact newer ones that are more accommodating to the illegals in the US which will greatly encumber law enforcement. I have worked in some of the poverty areas of Tijuana and Ensenada and it is absolutely unbelievable. I fully understand why the Mexicans try desperately to come here and find myself sympathetic to their attempts; yet, there are many who abide by the legal processes and on their behalf, "line jumping" is not fair. I have long argued that the Mexican government is responsible to its citizens; there is wealth there that is almost mind boggling. Cattle, citrus, oil - lots of it; and agriculture. However, tons of money is siphoned off by one of the most graft and corruption ridden governments on the planet and the little guy gets screwed. I follow the newspapers from the other side and believe it or not, their politicians actually direct the Mexicans to cross over to "claim what's theirs." They are quoted as saying that the US has no moral right to deny their seeking economic benefits. Not a lot has come out regarding Mexico's border policy with its southern neighbors, but if you're caught crossing that line, the police or soldiers have little mercy and after you are beaten badly, you go to a very nasty jail. Lately, we have a large number of clergy beating their drums about helping the illegals; I really wish I had a way to publicize which of their churches sponsor a Mexican school or orphanage or turned down a request to do so when approached. One last note: the illegal Mexicans I have observed working in California are hard workers beyond description. They are forced to put up with undue hardships and are frequently grossly taken advantage of. They are also, really kind and courteous and basically just good human beings who work like dogs to send a few bucks home to the family to ward off starvation. Thanks for reading; sorry it took so long.

I live along Hwy 59 in Southeast Texas Wharton County, about 300 miles from Nuevo Laredo. I can tell you that a GREAT DEAL of our community, Hell our whole state are Mexicans. Illegal at that. Those kids looked really stupid if you ask me. When asked about the protesting, not one single child got the facts straight. If this is what they are risking life and limb for you know the American Dream, they should make sure their children are getting a better education. They sounded like a bunch of free loaders, but I guess you learn what you see. God help us I am moving my children out of this state.

Mexicas?
Somebody's messin' with Texas.
Yeah, they work harder than most Americans. That's the real problem.

I disagree. That is a very close minded thing to say. The issue is the non payment of taxes and abuses of Government agencies that is the issue here. Be a racist somewhere else.

First off, illegally entering the us is a crime, hence having committed a crime, you are now a criminal.
No doubt this is a complicated issue because Mexican workers work very hard at little pay, which American businesses have come to rely upon.
HOWEVER, being a hardworker is not the same as supporting the community you live in. Billions of dollars are sucked out of school systems and other social services - largely making them less, if not totally un-, available to legal residents/citizens. The curriculum in schools is lowered so that students can meet govt mandated standards. Heard of No Child Left Behind? well, it's in reality No Child Gets Ahead.
I just moved my children from Texas to Alabama. In case you dont know, the local joke is "we love MS, so we dont rank dead-last" well, maybe it should be TX's new joke.... my children are a solid year behind after attending 'excellent' public schools in Dallas.
Check out DMN.com night after night drunk men outside of mexican bars are shooting a knifing each other to death... (not to say they are the only ones considering the city's murder rate.
with all that said, i have no problem with immigration, just criminals and leaches sucking my homeland dry. If you wish to immigrate and realize the American Dream then do it legally, it takes time but it's not that hard... and for God's sake get a legit job and pay taxes like the rest of us!!!

Hispanic population in Texas is close to 40%. Not sure the break down of legal/illegal.

I would say that is low. My best friends hubby is a Sherrifs deputy in Victoria. He says they apprehend close to 200 illegals a day.

The rest of America is sitting back going what???? Wait until they get to your state. Texas is overrun with illegals and they are freaking sucking the life out of us. John Peter Smith, Ft. Worth, county hospital in 2005, 5000 births and 4700 were illegals. I'm serious. They are eating up our socal programs. They can't seem to help our seniors but they can give 90% of our wellfare to Mexican Immigrants and Illegal Aliens. No Kidding. We should all be pissed. Comeing over here and demanding more from us. F OFF
