Abdur Rahman
Many of you have probably heard of the case of Abdur Rahman, an Afghan who could be sentenced to death for abandoning Islam in the eyes of an Afghan court. His great crime would be believing in Jesus Christ.
Personally, I find this incredibly infuriating as so many American, as well as Christian men and women fought to liberate Afghanistan. This is not what America fought for. Hyscience has a comprehensive round up of where things stand.

They are trying to declare him mentally unfit so that they can drop the charges.

Actually, as wrong as it may seem to some, it is exactly what we fought for.
We didn't remove the Taliban to impose our will and system on the Afghans. We removed the Taliban to allow the people to use their own will to determine their fate.
If we had done it any other way, then the comparisons between Bush and Hitler would be justified.

I was surprised by this at first. But then they are 500 years behind the rest of the world with their behavior and still living in the dark ages. So, after i think of it that way it makes perfect sense to me. We should expect nothing else from the crotch of the world.

This will be the last straw for the west.
Perhaps we should riot and destroy all their symbols. A culture like this has no business being supported by the west-as in nix the D.P. ports deal.

I agree with you- but let's wait and see how this plays out. Rome wasn't built in a day- and they were ROMANS.

Apparently, the Afghan authorities are saying they think he is mad. I hope they continue to say this, and then send him to the US for treatment!

Ironic, but humans are the same everywhere. This story would never have made the news, much less the notice of authorities in Afghanistan had this man's wife not turned him in. Why did she turn him in? They were divorcing and he wanted custody of the kids. So, she turned him in ... after SIXTEEN years of living as a Christian.
Divorce is a bitch.
I have to disagree that this is exactly what we were after in liberating this country and setting up democracy. One of the most important tenants of democracy is freedom of religion. Sure, cherry pick and make up your own version of democracy, but it's not going to work. In order for it to work, there must be freedom of religion. Even the Koran demands respect for other religions. Sharia is the problem here, and it should be snuffed out fast.
