negotiation between nations - delicacy: subtly skillful handling of a situation - statesmanship: wisdom in the management of public affairs
Who does Reuters think it's kidding with this? The cartoon issue is not first and foremost a diplomatic crisis. And one has to wonder if it is even possible to have a diplomatic crisis with the likes of Iran, Syria and some others. They'd require diplomats, first.
Instead you have governments which are inept, corrupt and sometimes criminal that need to either restrain their domestic populations from committing criminal acts in the street, or finally loose the veil of civility they get to hide behind at the UN, exposing them for the thugs and criminals that they are.
Perhaps it's time to recall all the diplomats, peacekeepers and aid workers ... and aid dollars, by the way, and let the Muslim world burn until some truly reasonable and diplomatic voices begin to emerge. At this rate, the more they burn down, the less we'll have to knock down in the end.
True, by and large American newspapers have shown no spine at all in standing up to this outrageous, criminal behavior on the part of many protesting Muslims. But if anything truly disappoints, it's that Western diplomats will eventually cave in, too ... heart-feelingly wringing their hands over the plight of these people and throwing more money at them, when in fact we should be considering how long before we start throwing bombs.
No. We can't do that. We must be above it, be as diplomatic as we can. Yet, every American with an ounce of common sense knows there really is only one way for the overall issue of this problem to end. And it will come to that, and if you're honest, you would admit it, too.
Radical Islam is looking more and more like the Third Reich every day. All that remains to be determined is how many more innocents are going to perish before the civilized world finally finds the courage to stand up and say, no ... never, again!
TEHRAN (Reuters) - A wave of Muslim fury spread across the Middle East and Asia over cartoons of the Prophet Mohammad on Tuesday as leaders struggled to contain a deepening diplomatic crisis between Europe and the Muslim world.
In Iran, which is locked in a nuclear stand-off with the West and which has cut trade ties with Denmark where the satirical images were first published, a crowd pelted the Danish embassy in Tehran with petrol bombs and stones for a second day.

Get past the idea that war or violence represents the failure of diplomacy. It actually represents the absence of diplomacy.
Diplomacy works only if both sides want a compromise more than they want their goals. This is not always true. And when it not true diplomacy is used to mislead, delay, and divide the sincere party while the other continues to prepare for conflict.
Diplomats often fall into the fantasy that they possess a magic to resolve problems between nations. That is not true. They relay messages, interpret incidents, and advise leaders.
But they often neglect the best advice "further diplomatic efforts will only hurt us, they are not going to change because we hand them communiques"

My thoughts exactly. Its also one of my main thoughts on why we needed to do something about Sadaam Hussein and Iraq.
