I am and have been fully aware of certain unacceptable events as regards some commenter's here and an issue of harassment which has, for the most part, been taking place on another site.
A few points on a subject I am prohibited from saying too much upon at this time.
The serious psychological issues which cause certain individuals to engage in such activities on the Internet also renders them, by and large, not worthy of too much of ones time and attention. Far from some sign of strength, such acts are ALWAYS born of personality traits rooted in dysfunction, weakness and intense feelings of inferiority. They are, ultimately, people to be pitied, not feared.
Nearly a year ago I co-operated in a successful police investigation which resulted in the charging, conviction and subsequent punishment of an individual engaged in Internet-based harassment.
All of the initial postings, personal emails and other documentation relevant to this current issue were long ago forwarded to the proper authorities. Said authorities have been engaged in their own investigation for a period of time, such that it is now too late for the offenders to avoid what will ultimately be formal charges in this regard. In fact, having been given enough rope, said individuals, and there is more than one, have all but hanged themselves.
I'll have no further comment or interaction on the issue. It deserves no more attention than one would give any petty criminal against whom there is now ample evidence to go forward. I'd advise everyone to do the same, move on and post and or read as you wish and forget about it. It and the individuals in question, one of whom has been corresponding with me not thinking I knew their identity, are not worth the time it took you to read this announcement.
