Oh, Oh Oprah!

Okay, I'll link this - but not without some comment. It seems a group of individuals is raising money to run a New York Times ad to link an open letter to Oprah Winfrey. I believe the letter calls on her to expose what was obviously a bunch of nonsense regarding a portion of the Natalee Holloway investigation - that being the whole Jamie Skeeters fiasco, which was basically a fraud. The tie in is between Oprah and Dr. Phil.

I'm assuming this idea stems from the recent silliness over Oprah and a book.

My thoughts? If anyone thinks Oprah took the approach she did in that issue because she was at all interested in the truth, email me, I have a bridge you'll love. I'd guess her actions were the result of some calculation as to what book sales and audience reaction would be if she did this, or did that. I don't see that calculus working in your favor with this issue. But it isn't my money, or my call ... so good luck!

It would be nice to believe that someone in the MSM really cared about the truth.

Recently, you made a statement that, "The truth does matter."  We believe that you sincerely want to represent the truth and only be a participant in truthful associations.  Several months ago, the Dr. Phil show did a broadcast involving the Natalee Holloway disappearance.  Dr. Phil showed excerpts from a taped conversation with one of the suspects in the case talking with a private detective, who had been hired by the Dr. Phil show.  However, what Dr. Phil broadcast that day has been shown, after extensive testing by the Netherlands Forensic Institute (NFI), to have been manipulated to falsely show Deepak Kalpoe (the suspect) admitting to actions, which he actually denied. First of all I want to thank Dan for his support! Naturally, Dan may be correct that Oprah may not care as much as we all would like about the TRUTH - however she SAID she did - so we are in a way challenging her to see if she does in fact care. She is affiliated with Dr. Phil - and there is no question that Dr. Phil never backed down from that whole Skeeter tape mess - he may have taken it off his web page and not mentioned it in a recent Holloway update but that is a far cry from admitting that the tapes were bogus. One of the things that has personally upset me the most about this case is the misinformation on cable news, the teasing with breaking news, and the lies over and over again that have become truths just because they have been repeted over and over. No matter which side a person is on in this case - the method of handling this by cable has been disappointment and Dr. Phil perhaps was the worst. So please if you have not had a chance to visit scrux and read what we are about,or go to refugees, unusual suspects, or freedom blog - tomorrw we hope to have it in Aruba Today via Julia Renfro. The tapes/videos were not only incriminating for Deepak; they also toyed with the emotions of Beth; he gave Beth hope where there apparently was none. His revelations had her on an emotional rollercoaster. His pal from the boys club, Skeeters, is not listed amongst the professional polygraphers, or with any accreditted offices, that he claimed. Yet he was telling Deepak that he was the BEST there is! He, along with Phil let Beth down, when she put so much trust in them, to get a conviction, and they used the tapes/video for entertainment purposes and self-glorification. I know you don't care about J2K, but for Beth, don't you think you could be positive about the letter to Oprah?

For Beth? That letter is not written as a complaint for the "emotional roller coaster" a grieving mother has endured. Her "roller coaster ride" started long before that tape aired on the Dr. Phil show.

Not only is that letter a waste of time , most of it is not true. Dr. Phil did not call for a boycott based solely on that tape. He called for boycott because ALE clearly mishandled the case and admitted mistakes were made excusing those mistakes by way of inexperience which is unacceptable.

The letter states that Arlene Ellis-Schipper is a brillant attorney when in fact she is an emotional moron that lied on several occassions regarding the case during interviews on the news. The letter fails to mention that Arlene is an Aruban Tourism "spokesperson". Her objective was to promote and protect tourism and her focus is how the case will effect tourism.

The letter states the Dutch NFI results but not the FBI results. Why?

Roger does not reveal how he obtained the tape he has posted on his site for viewing and linked to the letter. It is questionable, why is he privvy to the tapes?

I don't know whether this letter will result in Oprah addressing the lies/ deliberate manipulation of this tape on the Dr Phil show or not. Dan likely is correct, that the reason she addressed the problem with the book was because of the money involved. However, even if she does not, the open letter will bring this issue to the attention of the public who may be interested that misinformation was deliberated provided to an international audience via DR Phil's show. It was not just any information, but something that related to a high visablity criminal investigation.

The letter will direct readers to the Scrux site where they can hear the tapes and read the discussions. Roger, the site owner, plans to take down all ads on his site immediately following the ad running (think he said would do this for 2 weeks) so there could be no concerns about that.

I also do not think the goal is in any way to help Beth, rather to dispute some of her claims. Beth is using this manipulated tape as one of her justifications to claim that the J2Ks had sex with Natalee, when in fact, this was specifically denied in this tape. This also was a major consideration when the Alabama governor and Alabama legislator later called for an Aruba boycott. They were given false evidence too! I don't think Beth will like the open letter at all. But it is time for her, and others, to start sticking to the truth and not just putting things out there like they are facts, when all they are are her speculations. If someone wants to speculate, then that is ok, they need to make sure people know it is speculation though.

The goal is about TRUTH, FAIRNESS, and HONESTY.

People need to be able to depend on what their media tells them, that the information, to their knowledge, is fair and accurate. If honest mistakes are made, then there should be some room for understanding and correction. But when something is deliberately fasified, with the ramifications far reaching, then that is criminal.

This open letter is about much more than just the Natalee Hollaway case, it is about principles and decency.

Who are you , Roger, a..incanada or anyone else to decide what is true and what is not? You people do not have any more information than anyone else. Not one of you know how or where Roger even got those tapes, if the tapes he has was manipulated in the chain of hands or if Roger tampered with the version he posted on his site himself. YOU DO NOT KNOW. There is no way you could know.

The FBI has not released any information of their findings about the tapes. Until the FBI makes a statement about the tapes the tapes are just not important enough to continue talking about.

You people are setting up an "ad" to further spread lies about something you know nothing about. You may even be setting yourselves up for a major lawsuit or perhaps some criminal charges against some of you people that have signed that letter.
