Interesting re the Cheney / Hume interview that Kurtz summarizes instances where high profile figures have met the press during times of controversy this way:
Such an approach is hardly unprecedented for public figures on the hot seat. Gary Condit talked to Connie Chung. Monica Lewinsky talked to Barbara Walters. Ken Starr talked to Diane Sawyer. Hugh Grant talked to Jay Leno. Michael Jackson talked to Ed Bradley. Saddam Hussein talked to Dan Rather. James Frey talked to Larry King, before he got smacked around by Oprah.
You'd think he would have remembered the most notable instance of them all - when Hillary and Bill Clinton went on TV as the Lewinski scandal was breaking. I can't even recall, wasn't it Barbara Walters?
So Cheney did what basically everyone else does, it just so happens that Fox and not one of the big three fit the bill - so where's the news? Hint: There is more than just the big three these days ... and that's the only news here. That, and the old MSM doesn't really seem to like it very much.
It's interesting to read through Kurtz's litany of issues with the White House's handling of PR - Katrina, the Abramhoff photos, etc. All I kept thinking was how people don't care. And does the media really want to talk about how Katrina was handled? For heavens sake, that was one of the most embarrassing moments in their history, as much as it was the White House's, in fact, it was even worse.
Breaking News -- It isn't about you anymore Howard. The media needs to start putting its collective ego aside, get back to being reporters and move on. A majority of the American public already has.

Dan, you ignorant slut. ..... wait... That doesn't work. What was it? hmm.... 'you censorious carnivorous cuntservative'? no.... that wasn't it.... oh! 'You capricious fascist prig!' Yeah.... okay..... Collective egos...................hold on... I think I still have it wrong and I'm too lazy to go scrolling for it..... I think I remember now... 'You specious censorious fascist piffle!'
Oh forget it... all of the above......... Ha Ha Ha....
First of all, who cares about the whiny reporters reporting on the reportage of a report that Dick didn't report to the reporters that a friend of his heard the report of Dick's MANSTICK before he hit the dirt. You're right. No one cares.
But I don't think the MSM is a 'collective ego'.... not by a long shot. None would dare share their ego for a 'collective' much less a good story. It's more that the egos of journalists and talking-heads are like those packing peanuts that go everywhere and stick to everything and won't go away and get all staticsized to anything but themselves.
Heh...even better.... BUCKY BALLS. R. Buckminster Fuller and his Bucky Balls. That's a good descriptor for the egos of journalists and pundits.

Dan, you are too stupid to be believed.
No one cares that Chicken-Dick talked to the good dog from FOX news. But they do care that he only talked to FOX news. Chenney is a chicken. He's afraid of the press. If he can't control the press room, he won't show up.
Come on Chicken-Dick, talk to the press. Big Bill talked to everyone. Now there was a MAN!

Chicken-Dick. That has got to be a really small thing, you know?
Missy,
Vice-president Cheney owes no one.
Big Bill? That would be Bill Clinton? He talked to everyone and that made him a MAN? Well, for sure we know his wife doesn't make him a MAN.
