You might remember this tragedy I posted on - Such a Sad Affair
This case hasn't received extensive coverage, though it has had some .. perhaps that's because it is so sad.
Beaten into a coma by her stepfather, they've removed Haleigh's breathing tube and now she is breathing on her own. However, I don't believe that was the plan ... they are going to let her die.
Michelle Malkin reminds us it's Haleigh's birthday today. A thought and a prayer for Haleigh isn't too much to ask.
WESTFIELD - Haleigh Poutre, who had been hospitalized in September in what doctors called a "persistent vegetative state," turns 12 today.
But the Westfield girl, who is now said to be responding to simple yes and no questions and expressing emotions, will be spending her birthday without the presence of her biological mother who has been denied permission by the state to visit her at Franciscan Hospital for Children in Boston today.
"Tomorrow is Haleigh's birthday and from what I can tell, there is going to be nobody in her room that has any connection to her," Wendy Murphy, Allison Avrett's lawyer, said yesterday. "I am besides myself. I am so angry that Haleigh is going to spend her birthday with strangers in a hospital far away from anybody she knows."

My Birthday Prayer for Haleigh is that she makes an absolute recovery which defies all medical expectations, and that God sends people to her who will bring light and love and blessings into her life from now on.

Annie, I so totally agree with your comments and join you in your prayer for Haleigh.
Perhaps the attorney should be "so angry" at Haleigh's stepfather, adoptive mother/aunt, and birth mother.
Haleigh will spend her birthday where she is safe, and at least her basic needs are being taken care of. The thing this child has needed from the beginning is a loving family. Up to this point she has not had it.
I just know there is some sweet soul out there that is meant to take care of this little angel with broken wings. May God bring them together.

Haleigh,
Ár n-Athair atá ar neamh, Go naofar d'ainim, Go dtagfadh do ríocht, Go ndéantar do thoil ar an talamh mar a dhéantar ar neamh. Ár n-arán laethúil tabhair dúinn inniu, agus maith dúinn ár bhfiacha mar a mhaithimidne dár bhféichiúna féin Ach ná lig sinn i gcathú, ach saor sinn ó olc, Amen.

My prayers are with Haleigh. I pray that one day she is adopted by a family that truely loves her and will take really good care of her. This little girl deserves a better life than the one she has had. I hope that the people that did this to her will be forever punished. This little girl is truely a miracle. Haleigh, you truely are an ANGEL. MAY GOD BLESS YOU!!!!
