I probably shouldn't, but then, that has never seemed to stop me from opening up my big mouth before. John Hawkins at RWN's has up a list of his top 40 blogs. I believe this is something he does regularly.
I was pleased to see TNOYF made his list. Buckley has his own list up at previous link, which I made, even if it WAS at number 21! :P~~
The thing is, what I'm hesitant to say is, for the most part, .. I don't read blogs. Maybe I'm terming it incorrectly, but that's how it seems, even if I do click through sometimes several a day. Lately I've been spending a lot of time on Memeorandom, but that's more to see what's going on - and I occasionally click on a link from there.
I mean, I do READ them, but not some select few as a matter of course. And as for some of the perenial favorites like RedState, NRO or Powerline, I never even give them a look and can't say as I have ever read them, except for a particular post from some link I followed. They put me to sleep.
For the most part, I can tell what they'll be talking about, assuming it's anything interesting, by clicking by Drudge, Instapundit or Malkin - which I do do. But save for some particular issues I'm very interested in posting on, they often tell me what I don't want to post about, because it already has been, or is being done.
Some others I try to look in on, but don't always find the time include Ace, Beautiful Atrocities, Betsy, Villianous Company and, lately, Moxie, or HOI. But then, I might not look in on some of those for days, yet visit Margi, or Rusty, or some other number of blogs on my blog roll. I never know from day to day.
And I hate even listing a few as I have, because tomorrow it could all change. But aside from a very few, what never changes are news sources, US and overseas.
I'm not sure what people's time limitations are - and I know a lot of blogs are written by education or tech types who seem to have way too much time on their hands, but when it comes to blogging, often times I'm forced with a choice - to read, or write. And when forced to make a choice, to be honest, I usually choose the latter.
I'm happy when I can just get through my e mail. Right now I have 303 of 2077 email messages from the last six weeks marked unread. And that's excluding a few hundred or more I've deleted. And two books through the mail.
Read blogs???? Who the hell has the time? LOL

Yeah. I'm thinking that I should probably just stop reading blogs at all, since so many bloggers just don't bother.

I was thinking about this post last night. So many dynamics at play in the sphere. The one dynamic that keeps popping up in my mind is the insecurity the whole blogosphere promotes. Who has links? Who has commenters? Who has the latest news? Who has the funniest stuff? Who keeps one theme going all the time? Just like real life. And with real life, there are assholes and idiots and little emperors and nice guys and nice women and in the final analysis, it's all about connecting. Even those god-complex asses who give themselves titles and demand obeisance or ban you for failing in your sychophantic duties, it is still about connecting with other people. Even bullies need to connect to the regular folks.... more so than anyone would think.
Top 20, 25, 30, 40 Lists? Who gives a fuck. I read a couple of blogs everyday and comment if I feel like it. The blogs I enjoy are those where there is feedback and where the host is laidback and not in need of an ego-feed. Also, I look for someplace where I know I will laugh. Do I care if they won the latest carnival or Top Whatever List? Nope. It is ALL about the connection. Blogatude = Attitude, and we are drawn to that which makes us feel right.
