At a time when the world has been seeing incredible violence, including murders on the part of Muslims in the face of the cartoon controversy, leave it to Al Gore to travel to the middle east and attempt to smear America yet one more time. Perhaps he felt former Dem President Jimmy Carter simply hasn't been doing enough.
Not only does his blather represent out and out lies, it's obvious that Gore and many other so called high ranking democrats have a tin ear when it comes to listening to the pulse of America. Gore couldn't even win the presidency as an incumbent vice president during a time when the economy was good. Thank God just enough of America figured out what an idiot this man turned out to be.
Now I suppose we'll have to endure decades of this ass roaming the globe spewing out nonsense, just as we have had to do with failed President Jimmy Carter. One thing seems apparent with the democrat party, they simply can't get their losers to gracefully just go away.
Quick addition: Make no mistake, his rhetoric was for one purpose and one purpose only - Saudi dollars for any future presidential run. What a pandering disgrace.
Former Vice President Al Gore told a mainly Saudi audience on Sunday that the U.S. government committed "terrible abuses" against Arabs after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, and that most Americans did not support such treatment.
Gore said Arabs had been "indiscriminately rounded up" and held in "unforgivable" conditions. The former vice president said the Bush administration was playing into al-Qaida's hands by routinely blocking Saudi visa applications.
Gore told the largely Saudi audience, many of them educated at U.S. universities, that Arabs in the United States had been "indiscriminately rounded up, often on minor charges of overstaying a visa or not having a green card in proper order, and held in conditions that were just unforgivable."

I simply do not understand this. And more and more are piling on the hate America bandwagon at a time when we particularly need unity and commonality of purpose.

Could someone please write a story and remind the world what it is to be american and what America stands for. It seems it has become muddled- that americans are all about power. We use power to ensure freedoms for the individule etc...

He also reminded them that Iran needed reigning in and that the West needed help in that department. He told them that the Iranians needed to hear from someone like the Saudis that their behavior was unacceptable. Any reason you didn't include that in your comments?
Much of the rest of the world tends to fear our use of our power. We say we want to ensure freedom, but they don't always see it the same way we do. Al Gore hasn't caused our culture clash with the world. It's up to all of us to respond to the world with confidence - not arrogance.

What he said happened, did happen. There were some very sad stories that came out about some of the people who were locked up and held for over a year who claim they had not done anything to deserve it. They just disappeared and their families did not know where they were or why they disappeared. Also, I am sure that some people who were picked up and locked up were not innocent. And I am glad they deported anyone who had an expired VISA who was picked up in this net. This is during the period when John Ashcroft was saying they did not have a right to a lawyer, then when they did get to have an attorney, that attorney privileges did not apply for privacy, and that it was OK to indefinitely detain someone without charges in the states.
So, the fact that this happened, needs to be acknowledged, with some fair explanation of the reasons why it occurred. This should have come from the Bush administration. There were reasons that it happened and there were no easy ways to handle the need for safety and finding out who was safe to be here and who was not. Unfortunately, some innocents got caught up in it.
I haven't read his speech. I am not sure I am upset about what he said until read whole thing and see it in context.

Al Gore preaching anti-Americanism to suck up to foreign leaders? That ain't news. That's mainstream liberalism.

Al Gore on the campaign trail again?
His hair is starting to have a stiking resembelence to Ronald Regan?

Al Gore will never become president of the USA. He is too honest.

The familyname of Al Gore referes to the dutch name Goor, what actually means dirty. That is what his his political career is all about:digging up dirt like a human pig. Piggy Gore...

coconuttree-so honest he could not carry his own state in US election.

He's doing what sleazy politicians do so well - sucking up to his audience by acknowledging their 'pain', getting them on his side, and then asking them for something which in turn will make him look good to those he slandered. In turn, those he slandered, if they're stupid enough, will think he's wonderful.
It's the way a bully/loser plays on the playground. It's rotten, delusive, and the work of a mercurial mind who thinks no one else can see through what he's doing. That makes HIM stupid.
It takes a very special kind of creep to walk the fine line of sedition for personal gain.

Gore is campaigning. He needs money and a bigger political base for 2008. He has some environmentalists and one-world types but they are not sufficient. With speeches like this he ensures that Hillary and JFK cannot get to his left. And that may help in primaries.
JFK has money, the New England crowd, and pretty good staffers. Downside - footinmouth disease.
Hillary doesn't want the nomination if she can't win the election. So she keeps hedging on every issue and event. This hurts her with the left but gives her a chance.
Outlook. Gore and JFK need a major Bush disaster. Gore also needs an environmental catastophe of major proportions. Hillary need only avoid a blunder.

Being critical of your own government does not make you an anti-American.

No, but biting the hand that feeds you makes you a fool.

Not because that hand feeds you you have to accept everything from the hands' owner.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
What is your problem?
Hang on, hang on here a minute! Are you saying that you haven’t read his speech? Far be it from me to go espousing a load of crap about things I know very little about.
Here’s my challenge: You come right to the forefront and say rubbish like: “…were locked up and held for over a year who claim they had not done anything to deserve it.” Know any of these people?
“This is during the period when John Ashcroft was saying they did not have a right to a lawyer, then when they did get to have an attorney, that attorney privileges did not apply for privacy, and that it was OK to indefinitely detain someone without charges in the states.” Please! What the fvck are you talking about? You must have been one of these people? You have got to understand when this occurred. Moreover, Ashcroft’s right: people who are in this country illegally or without sufficient permission DON’T have the same rights guaranteed by the citizen’s constitution.
"So, the fact that this happened, needs to be acknowledged…” Sorry here mate, but you still have not produced ONE FACT. To say the Bush Administration, “ …is responsible for some fair explanation,” first, for what exactly?
Get it right!
Okay, I’m at the point of seething now! And you still haven’t read a bloody thing, but then you waffle with the “Unfortunately…” bit. I know what your political affiliation is; however, I’m positive you are unable to vote.
At the expense of anyone and everyone here goes: This person speaks of rights. Rights. Ahem. This person, as so many other misinformed idiots around the world try and reason with the US Constitution, yet, I’ve yet to see anyone get it right with the exception of those with reasonable education and a sound mind.
Rights are air, water, fire, and earth. Everyone has a right to those elements. Period. Privileges based on rights that have been earned are just about a thing of the past.
You see, citizens who are not committing treason or acts against the government are indeed entitled to various (earned) privileges, or rights. Being represented by counsel is one such right. However, non-citizens are not entitled to squat, yet, some how the US government has spoiled her illegal aliens so much that now, fvck it, fly a few airliners through buildings, kill 3,000 or more people, and then hide behind the guise of government autrocities, oh how very Goreian.
I truly believe the Democrats have completely lost it. They are fighting a war against Bush instead of a war on terror and radical muslim's. Here Gore is giving us another example of their complete and total disregard for the consequences of their comments and behavior. They have become a nightmare for rational and reasonable people everywhere who still are committed to our assignment that began on 9/11...I am begining to think they all need medication because they are having a group psychotic episode...if only we could deport all of them to fantasyland.
=========
Gore pretty much grew up in the Washington DC area, son of a Congressman, rather than his home state. Also, his home state has gone Red Republican and he almost won there in spite of that.
Paulos - It seems you are ranting on at my comments above. Obviously YOU are the one who is uninformed about what did happened, and information about it was in major publications with profiles of AMERICAN CITIZENS who were locked up, without charges for over a year - they just disappeared. And NO, not all of them were guilty of anything, they were just profiled based on being young Muslim males originally from Mideast. There were others who were picked up who should have been.
The same thing happened during World War II with Japanese who were US citizens.
One of the most outspoken members of Congress about what happened to innocent people was Representative Ron Paul of Texas - he is a Libertarian, which some consider more conservative than Republicans.
This situation was discussed by Congress and broadcasts for all the nations to watch on C-Span, but you probably don't watch that either, since you seem to be unaware of what did occur.
The only thing I said I had not read is all of Al Gore's recent speech. I read plenty about the situation he referenced in the excerpt from his speech and highlighted in the blog post.
