I all but guarantee you, you will see it again, one day. It's only a matter of time. Does anyone really doubt it?
Bradenton, Florida -- Deputies say a 16-year-old has been arrested for beating his grandmother with a two-by-four for refusing to give him $100 for beer.
Charged is Kurt Cass of Hammock Drive, Bradenton.
Investigators say Cass went into his 60-year-old grandmother's bedroom Thursday and asked her for $100 for beer. When she refused, he allegedly placed a razor blade on her throat and demanded she take him to the bank to get the money, deputies said.
"When the victim arrived back home she locked all of the doors," deputies reported. "The defendant arrived back home and kicked the front door in.
"Once inside the defendant grabbed a two foot 2x4 piece of wood and hit the victim numerous times on the back. The defendant then grabbed a three foot piece of 3 inch PVC pipe and hit the victim on her head, back, and legs numerous times. The defendant's case worker arrived on scene and was able to hold him until law enforcement arrived."Authorities tell us today that Cass came from a troubled family. His mother is in prison on cocaine possession and sale charges, and his father is serving a 15-year prison sentence for manslaughter after choking a prostitute to death in 2002.

Awe, this could turn into be a sweet story about how mommy, daddy and baby reunite...in jail. I bet he stopped taking those meds.
Who was he going to get to buy the beer anyway? Maybe get a case and give the rest to the other law breaker?
Kudos to granny though, she stood her ground. Poor thing.

This is why abortion has to be legal.

Apple doesn't fall too far from the tree. On the other hand anyone who has read "A Child Called IT" can see how children can survive even the cruelest of upbringings without beating granny.

Well, unfortunatly IMO I don't think it would solve the problem, as it would be a choice and not mandatory.

That would be an abortion in what, the fifty-first trimester?

yeah -whatever.
Point is with drugs rampant and women selling their bodies to get drugs and getting pregnant in the process they must have the option to get an abortion or we'll be over run with mental cases beating up good people.

The "good people" gave birth to one of those jailsters who in turn came up with this winner.

Aw, gee. Po' guy didn't have a very good home life. Well, lots of people don't, but they don't beat up their granny for beer money! He needs to realize (among a whole lot of other things) he is responsible for what he does. I sure feel bad for Granny.

IMO that is what is likely to happen when a child is raised by a cocaine addict and a murderer, then abandoned by them. The teen then consumes alcohol and who knows what else, and is left to his own devices. Children are not unpredictable, they are a product of who raises them, and I believe we probably have thousands walking around similar to him. What are the answers? Don't know, but I've worked with many young women who are newly sober, and many lives are saved if a person can turn their life around before it is too late. He is one scary looking dude though, and my thoughts are always with the victim first. His grandmother must make sure she protects herself from him, because right now he is like a "freight train", ready to mow down anything in his path.

Well said. I have seen people most of you wouldn't want to meet in a dark parking lot turn their lives around. Take a good look at this kid, he's a walking suicide case. He sure as hell did not get this way on his own. Sure hope he has the chance to have the right person walk into his life. Christ he's only 16.

A possible solution would to put birth control in the nation's water supply. The andidote would only be available after a good screening.

it is truly sad that anyone who feels like it can get pregnant and have children whether they can care for them or not.....kids who never asked to be brought into this world end up dead, beaten, raped or in jail all courtesy of the example of their parents....an eight year old boy just shot another child at a day care center - EIGHT years old - where did he get the gun? from his father who is a convicted felon wonder if that is whgere he got the example too................I can count at least 5 kids mentioned on this blog in the past 3 weeks that suffered because their parents were all screwed up...........it is just sickening

Hey wait, this kid isn't a relative to the Infamous Mendez bros? I kinda see a resemblence.
Grannies stop make in it so easy for your daughters to dump their kids on you....

Splashtc has a good point....but for me it's more like, this is why BABY LICENSES should be mandatory in this country. People are simply popping out kids irresponsibly with no means to support them or take care of them or give them the love they need to grow into mature, functioning, emotionally-stable adults. It's disgusting that a 16 year old child would beat his grandmother while his parents are in jail? What the hell are his parents doing in jail? BOTH of them??? argh argh argh.

wait just a sec....
Both of my parents are cocaine addicts and my father served 10 years in prison for selling the stuff. I am a very adjusted and "normal" member of society. I am college educated, own my own house and new car.....so the misconception that this is what is expected from the offspring of drug addicts is untrue. No one else raised me. I was with my mother my entire life until I moved out at 18. I am sure that i am the exception to the rule but the generalization is still unfair. Just MHO.

The answer to a lot of this stuff is not abortion or birth control it is sterilization, 'cause a lot of the way this kid has turned out seems to be because of parenting, and just what kind of parent do you think this kid is going to turn out to be, and so it goes on and on and on................

Regardless of how this time bomb was parented and considering the comments made by bleeding hearts about the poor young kid who should have never been born, this kid needs to be tried as an adult and incarcerated for the rest of his life - no parole - never.

Don't you get conjugal rights any more in prison then, because if you do, he would still be able to procreate. It is always possible for guys in prison (even lifers) to meet women after making contact through advertising themselves, and there is always some silly woman who will respond, and even if the prisoner has been given life, it is seldom that sentence actually means life, and then he will be released back into the community to play happy families.

Is this what is called a bad seed ? genetic behavior..?
Or just instilled by his parents behaviors...?
Why were the parents behaviors so rotten ..?
What were their parents like ...?
Sombody made a decision to live a life that is less then civilized and it has lasted generations....possably...
Extremely sad story of alcohol related family violence and then it shows even more.. elderly violence...
