Google highlights this non-working url for her sister's blog, which was said to be tracking her journey. Apparently they killed her translator prior to the abduction as she was on her way to a meeting with Sunni Arabs in a not so safe part of town.
BOSTON (AP) -- Jill Carroll had just been laid off from a newspaper job and decided it was time to fulfill her dream of going to the Middle East to cover a war. Her proud sister has been keeping track of her travels in a blog called "Lady of Arabia."
Maj. Falah Mohamadawi said the translator told police just before he died that the abduction took place when he and Carroll were heading to meet Adnan al-Dulaimi, head of the Sunni Arab Iraqi Accordance Front, in the Adel section of the city. The neighborhood is dominated by Sunni Arabs and is considered one of the toughest in Baghdad.

Bad move, but that's the risk you take when knowingly, you decide to put yourself in harms way. I no longer feel compassionate about this.

I have to agree. It is too bad, but journalists are not entitled to any special protection or additional compassion.

nice, gary. what are your thoughts on the natalee holloway case? do YOU think an 18 year old girl deserves additional compassion compared to the many who dissappear all over?

Natalee Holloway case is a very poor comparison. The caribbean is not a war zone. Iraq is, thanks to the US Gov't, a very dangerous place.

From democracy to Captive
BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) — As a deadline neared for hostage American journalist Jill Carroll, Muslim leaders and her pleading mother appealed Thursday to kidnappers to spare her life and set her free.
Referring to demands from Carroll's abductors that Iraqi women be released from U.S. custody, a senior Iraqi official said six jailed Iraqi women were due to be freed by the U.S. military.
Not just another beautiful face, but another beautiful AMERICAN face.
So we have been wondering fro a long time now......what does our government in charge stand for? or are the suspisions correct and and they dont stand but are controlled by the anceant middle east?
Are we going to ler our girl....that's right ( Our Girl) whose only plan as a journalist was to bring demography to seed in the middel east with comasssionate reports and storys of burnt out life in Iraq?
Do you want to wake up every morning to this----->
Well have a nice day at school now son,and study the rebelion hard so you can show the world that even though we are a 3rd rate country we can offer a better show then the blai witch .So go on now Son,go suck some 1st rate blood and get a real good taste for it now.
was that totally out there....out of controll, maybe even stupid?
Well not any more stupid as the complete waste of man power, service men and woman lifes, millions on millions if not billions of dollars spent to show a ungrateful people the meaning of democracy.
Yes they are learning all right, learning that the bush administration is a first rate fear factor machine, and doesn't have the balls to go in there...take the chance, and get the girl or not but put an end to this terrorists activitys once and for all.
Will some one in the Bush administration please wake up!,and lets get moving into a peaceful future, and if that means taking out a natation full of terrorists.........do it all ready.
I believ in second chances...third ,fourth, even fifth chances if that is what it takes.
But if after all that time and effort the only response we can get back is ( off with her head!)

I am prior service. I can tell you first hand that all who service in this time should get all the respect and love in the world, not just service personel but civilians as well. It is easy to comment so lightly when that is not your daghter, girlfriend or mother being held captive and treated in God knows what manner. No common person deserves to die in any way or for any reason over lands, oil, goods or anything else that only the elite in either country will ever benefit from. When people start to think otherwise it is a sign that we are becoming small desensitized versions of our government. Tis is why I no longer serve. I am just a common man, longing freedom, peace and happiness.
