The abductors of US journalist Jill Carroll have threatened to kill her if the United States does not free Iraqi women prisoners within 72 hours, reports Aljazeera.

Aljazeera aired a brief video on Tuesday showing Carroll speaking to the camera, without broadcasting her voice. 

The Qatar-based station said the kidnappers identified themselves as members of a previously unknown armed group calling itself the "Brigades of Vengeance".

According to Abu Musab al'Zarqawi, it is not permitted to harm a woman. Friendly fire and unintentional casualities are the only exceptions to that rule and please bear in mind, the U.S. government is equally as guilty in that respect.

Maybe we should leave the negotiations up to the women?
