Two babysitters have been jailed for raping a 12-week-old baby and taking pictures of the abuse.

Alan Webster, 40, and his girlfriend Tanya French, 19, both from Hatfield in Hertfordshire, pleaded guilty to rape and making indecent images.

Webster was given a life sentence at St Albans Crown Court; French was jailed for five years.

International law enforcers alerted police after Webster downloaded 7,000 indecent images from the internet.

Every single day I am reminded of how horrific and monsterous some people can become. Every single day, I am reminded how very much we need the Death Penalty for these kinds of people. And every single day, I am reminded how very sad our whole justice system is, when vicious murderer's and rapists and pedofiles are allowed to breathe the same air as all of us law abiding citizens. Somehow, we as a society need to find an acceptable punishment for child abusers. We know that incarceration does nothing but delay the inevitable: repeat offenses. Do you think as a society we could accept castration of these individuals? I am not sure their behavior deals only with the sexual aspect, but with the power they hold over others. And, castration would only work with male violators. But, I think it's a real good start. And, I believe statistics would show there are more male sex offenders than female ones.

Something has to be done, and soon. These molesters are creating new molesters each time they abuse. The article about the judge said that each molester averages 117 victims in their life time. Not each one of those 117 victims will go on to be child molesters, but many of them will. And, they will go on to molest 117 victims, and so on and so forth. It's time we got serious as American citizens to combat the perpetration of these events.

I applaud Steve Huff and his cronies that are fighting NAMBLA, it is a very good start to exposing these otherwise normal appearing humans.

So, this guy gets LIFE for doing this. Don't be fooled. Life in this case will probably mean seven to ten years, and then he will be out again, having convinced those he needs to that he is a changed person. Meanwhile, he will have been put with the rest of the men who have done similar crimes, so as to protect him from the other prisoners, and he will spend his time inside with his new found pals swopping stories of how they have abused other kids, and planning to get together when they get outside and can carry on, only this time, not get caught so easily. The woman will have a harder time than him because the rest of the women will probably find some way to get at her. Incidentally, note how they said that at least she showed some remorse as she was crying. Of course she was crying - she got caught didn't she, don't think for one minute she was crying over what happened to the baby.

I try not to read the newspapers too often these days. Either the number of unbelievable atrocities like this is on the increase, or more attention is simply being given to them by the media. As a father, this and similar pitch-black nightmare horror stories scare me to no end, and I hope I (or indeed anyone else, for that matter) will never experience anything remotely like it.

But anyone - parent or not, and capable of rational though - must surely be utterly devastated and extremely enraged by the fact that these monsters not only exist and are allowed to do their ghastly deeds, but can also get away (with the apparent blessing of a severely flawed 'judicial' system) with next to nothing in terms of punishment. 30, 40, any number of years behind bars for something so vile as the rape of an infant is a joke, pure and simple, no amount of solitary confinement will be enough. Sure, society will be protected from these monsters, but will also have to bear the huge cost of paying for their meals and boarding, not to mention the cost of a system that must guard them. Money better spent on the victims of these human degenerates. What help do the victims get, in comparison to the perpetrators?

I am not a supporter of the death penalty, quite the contrary, but it doesn't take much reasoning to see that some people are well beyond hope of the effects of any rehabilitation. People like Alan Webster have - by their knowledge of societys' hatred of perverted sex crime offenders - long experience in hiding their deviant behaviour. These people will - when subjected to the even the best intended 'therapy' - focus all of their cunning into fooling the psychiatrists, trying to convince them that they have changed for the better. Such a magical change simply does not happen! The apparent change is wholly motivated by their concern for their own (mental) survival, as the alternative outcome of a psychological evaluation could very well mean possible incarceration for the rest of their natural lives.

Those who commit crimes of sexually assaulting babies (BABIES, for crying out loud! In this case only 12 WEEKS!!!) have in my point of view by landed themselves squarely in the camp of those who truly deserve a violent and prolonged death. Throw them - quite literally - to the wolves, and let them be ripped apart. Violent? Yes. Medieval? Maybe. Overreaction? Not in a million years! Politically incorrect as it may be, there is such a thing as justifiable revenge!

I cannot fully comprehend the chaos of emotions going through the minds of the parents of this baby, it must be as close to Hell on Earth as I can imagine, and to top it off, they are - by society's incarceration of these criminals - not only cut off from the possibility of inflicting lethal damage to these rapists, but also wounded a second time, seeing the criminals only be put away and protected, out of reach of the enraged public. I can only hope that fellow prison inmates take matters into their own hands as soon as the news reach them, and give to them what they so richly deserve.

My thoughts are with the baby and its parents, and the investigators of this case, who have the stomachs to go through the revolting evidence material and the willpower to go on working.

If any of my loved ones were to suffer (may I NEVER EVER live to see that happen) at the hands of scum like Alan Webster, rest assured I would stop at nothing to make him regret it for the rest of his short miserable life, in ways you cannot imagine. I am confident that the vast majority of you feel the same way. Such a tragedy then, that the judicial system is not in tune with the people!

I am the mother of a beautiful little girl who would be the same age now as the baby. When i heard the news i had to switch over and couldn't bring myself to listen to anything about what had happened to that poor defenseless child. It went out of my mind until this morning when i watch the program 'This morning' with my daughter sitting on my lap. I made myself watch. The little girls grandfather was very brave to go through (again) what his family had been through. When fern described some of the abuse that had happened i was so sick and disgusted. I was so upset when I heard this on the news that I could not sleep that night.
I have heard some depraved things in my time, but this has got to be the most sickening.
I wrote to my MP saying that the sentence Webster got was a joke. I said that paedophiles have to be locked away for life - they cannot be reformed or cured. I asked him when were the Government going to take paedophilia seriously?
Life has to mean life. The police need more resources to collect evidence, internet site providers should themselves employ enough personnel to make sure that child porn stays off their sites - I do not buy their excuse that this is not possible.
