Just when it seems it can't get any more bizarre, the investigation into the disappearance of Natalee Holloway always seems to provide a new twist. I'll discuss that and share some new documents and news below the fold.
Evidently, tonight on Rita Cosby the newly appointed spokesperson for the Strategic Communications Task Force for Aruba, Steve Cohen, mentioned a letter from Natalee Holloway sent to Paulus Van der Sloot. From comments area:
The hot item reported by Steve Cohen was a letter received by Paulus van der Sloot claiming to be from Natalee Holloway. She explains in the letter why she ran away from her mother and is living in the USA. She tells the Dutch authorities to test the letter for her DNA to verify that it is her. Steve Cohen reported that Police Chief Dompig received the letter from Paulus today and immediately sent it to the Dutch Forensic Institute (DFI) for DNA testing and authentication.
Additionally, I've received other information on what is alleged to be leaked statements from the investigation. I've been told that most such statements and notes are often encrypted in high profile cases and that is the case with most documents from the Holloway case.
At right and below I'll be posting a sample of one of the encrypted documents I've been sent, along with the text of one unencrypted document said to be a statement of Joran Van der Sloot - note - while the document text I'll post is obviously translated and not signed, I do have a photographic image of the alleged original in Dutch signed by the investigators. That document is allegedly what led investigators to take Joran Van der Sloot to the beach one day in handcuffs to identify the location of where he left Natalee Holloway and where he suspected she may have been buried by Deepak Kalpoe. That beach visit resulted in nothing being found, so far as I am aware.
At right is a sample of an encrypted document allegedly leaked from the investigation - and below is the text of the translated document I referenced above.
Pardon typos or poor composition - I hadn't planned on posting anything substantive tonight.
DEPOSITION
We, Juan Enrique Boezem, Dennis Domico Jacobs, Luigi Angelo Giovanni Croes en Chrizanti Anuar Tromp, respectively Head Officer, Officer first Class and Officer at the Aruba Police Corps, respectively assigned at the Detective District 2 and Robbery Project Team, state the following.
That on June 13 2005, at approximately 7.50 P.M. , the suspect, “Joran A.P. van der Sloot” stated that he probably knew the place were his fellow suspect “Deepak Sharma Kalpoe” hid the corpse of the missing girl “Natalee Ann Holloway” under the sand and that he was willing to show the location to the judicature. With reference to his statement we, the interrogating officers, drove with the suspect J.A.P. van der Sloot at approximately 8 P.M. in order to show the location.
Indicated by the suspect J.A.P. van der Sloot, we, the interrogating officers, drove to the beach north of the Marriott Hotel. Near the first fishing shack, north of the Marriott Hotel, the suspect stated that he had laid on the beach, on may 30, 2005 at approximately 02.00 A.M. with the missing girl “Natalee Ann Holloway”. At the moment that we, the interrogating officers, doing location indications,
the suspect J.A.P. van der Sloot, stated, that when the girl Natalee Holloway fell a sleep, he left the girl on the beach, by the first fishing shack, north of the Marriott Hotel.
The suspect J.A.P. van der Sloot then walked with us, the interrogating officers, a little further and stated that he suspected that the suspect Deepak KALPOE had returned to the girl after he left her sleeping on the beach.
In response to our question to the suspect J.A.P. van der Sloot, what he thought had happened between the girl Natalee Holloway and suspect Deepak KALPOE, he stated that he thought that the suspect Deepak KALPOE had raped the girl and then had killed her.
Following this by us, the interrogating officers, on oat of office is stated this deposition, closed and signed at Oranjestad on June 13, 2005.
The interrogating officers,

If a copy was sent to the FBI - then they put up that poster to gain more info. It does explain that much. So far as BT having it - when was she home long enough to read mail?
Is it possibly legit? Sure. But are the chances greater it's a hoax? Yes.
It's interesting that the original was sent to the family of Joran - but copies elsewhere. Perhaps Joran's family is deemed more likely to take it seriously than either mom or the FBI.

LFB in the letter to PVDS it is said that she asked that the 1 million dollar reward be given to those who suffered at her mother's hands. Since I have always believed that Natalee is alive I was not surprised that, once she found out the furor on her part (I also have reason to believe that she DID call her mother and was unaware that her mother was not honest about the content of those calls.) Natalee tried to recitfy the situation without giving herself away.
Just because a letter had been postmarked Arkansas does not mean that is where she is. Truck drivers are more than happy to drop a letter in a box for you if need be. The letter claims that there was purposely set DNA on the letters, meaning she put her fingerprints on it and licked it or something in order to prove that it was written by herself. I did not ask if it was handwritten or not but would imagine so if it IS Natalee seeking to prove her identity. I wonder how long it will take for Beth to pony up a handwriting sample.
At this point only time will tell. But should this all pan out as I expect, I feel this will be an excellent lesson (as Willibanks should have been) for those people who have been so quick to judge and so easily duped by the media.

It's amazing to me, that often when I tell certain friends of my hope Natalee is alive and off on her own or maybe kidnapped - I'm told I'm bashing the victim. This astonishes me, because there is no solid proof we know of, that Natalee is a victim of foul play.
And I'm trying to figure out how hoping that she is alive = bashing? It's almost like some people are so certain they are right that she was raped and murdered by JK2, that any expression of hope or belief she is alive is some sort of Natalee abuse.
It's perverse thinking if you ask me.
People who find some clue or hope of her being alive, in curiosities like the FBI poster, or a letter (that is probably a hoax) or the lack of a crime scene, confession etc, are simply staying positive. That's not bashing - that's hopeful thinking.
If some day she is found alive, will the JK2 bashers spout that they deserved what they got anyway, because they lied? Yep.

That's an excellent point. You'd think if a sick joke (if it is one) like this would come from Holland or Aruba - but apparently not.

Does anyone know why it tok PVDS months to turn over his letter?
Posted by: berry | Saturday, December 10, 2005 at 09:56 AM
What doesn't add up about the letter is that if Natalee was living in Arkansas this whole time, I find it hard to believe that no one would recognize her. And wouldn't they have a claim to the million dollar reward?
Posted by: letsbefair | Dec 10, 2005 2:20:32 AM
Well not really.
I have relatives that live in Arkansas.
It takes about 2 hours and a 4 wheeler to get to their property, and you can't even do that when it rains as you can't cross what becomes, a creek. They were squatters about 20 years ago. Just pulled up, parked their RV and started building a house. Its all legal. My point is that you do not have to be around society, especially if there are others that can assist by running any errands. Television, Telephone, and Computer Access does exist in most pockets of Arkansas, but it is not at all necessary to these folks. It is extremely possible that Natalee can hide from anyone if she has the support. Natalee's says "We" and "my situation", in the letter.
My radar went off when Beth didn't respond like I would think a mother in this situation would.
Beth: its hard for me to regroup on the spot like this ....bear with me here, but as far as the letter goes, i just think that is something really does, you know, they could have addressed that personally."
Beth was sent a copy.
And supposedly Natalee has called Beth while Beth was in Aruba. What is going on here? (rhetorical question)

It's perverse thinking if you ask me.
Posted by: berry | Dec 10, 2005 9:52:19 AM
I agree berry, I've said it before and was called an idiot. But, if it were my child that had disappeared, being gang raped and murdered would be the very last thing on earth I would want to believe happened! Especially with absolutely not a shred of proof. I think I would latch on to a 'died in her sleep' scenario. That's the only one I could really make peace with in my mind. She could still go after J2K on the basis of thinking that they know more than they have revealed. Lots of people would support that without the sensationlism she has added.

There are so many sick people in this world... I tend to agree that it is a sick hoax. Probably why PVDS and ALE didn't make a big deal out of it. Definately worth pursuing, but probably will add nothing to the case.

Dan:
Very interesting. I don't know if it is a hoax or not, wouldn't surprise me! What a mean thing to do. I think there is a real possibility that she is alive, but I don't think she is in the US, IMHO.
If this is a hoax I sure hope they find the originator and prosecute - awful thing to do to a family.
Posted by: moey | Saturday, December 10, 2005 at 10:58 AM
Thanks for posting this info about the letter Dan. This case just gets more bizare by the minute. I'm wondering, if this letter turns out to be true, whether Natalee has had a hand in all this somehow, because the other day I was reading that somebody who knew her well (a male) was saying that in his opinion Natalee was a genius, a real genius. Not something generally said about somebody. Other things that occur if this is a 'put up job', is the connection between Jug and Jossy, and what was Jug 'coaching' Natalee about. Is this all just some kind of plan to put some heat on Joran's dad because of his connection to the judiciary that a had a hand in extraditing Jossy's family? Does Natalee now think it has gone far enough? It was Natalee that targeted Joran to begin with, (although the Beth supporters don't want to believe that), and apparently Joran was amazed that Natalee kept coming at him, and then her wanting him to stay with her alone on the beach. Perhaps Beth was not in on it to begin with, however, you can bet they now have quite a bit of money in this fund, that is apparently 'for the family'!!
Posted by: annie | Saturday, December 10, 2005 at 11:09 AM
First of all, I believe the letter is a hoax. BUT, if the DNA is real, it makes more sense that kidnappers have her alive and fabricated the letter to make it look like she ran away on purpose. Hostages are often forced to renounce their country, etc.
Posted by: wreck | Saturday, December 10, 2005 at 11:20 AM
Running away makes no sense. She was 18 and could do that anyways. All she had to do was leave with anyone she wanted to. So what if her family did not like it. All she had to do was say, "I don't like my family and want to start a new life on my own."
Posted by: wreck | Saturday, December 10, 2005 at 11:25 AM
Another though has sprung to mind also. If this letter looks like it is genuine because it has fingerprints, DNA, hair, whatever, belonging to Natalee, perhaps it could still be a fraud, because it could be somebody who had close access to Natalee, and could be a way of stopping the MB kids from being questioned or having their DNA taken to compare with the toothbrush. Seems like whenever that is in the offing, there comes along a big deflection to get the attention elsewhere. Has somebody in MB got something big time they don't want anybody to know??
Posted by: annie | Saturday, December 10, 2005 at 11:31 AM
DNA may come from a dead body as well as a living breathing person. DNA/sperm may come from a used condom discarded on the beach by any Tom, Dick, or Harry. Just my humble opinion.

Why would Natalee write PVDS? At most she knew him for a few minutes, if she really met him at all
Posted by: DoorMart | Dec 10, 2005 8:51:21 AM
BINGO!! We got a winner!! Do you think Joran intorduced Natalee to his Dad(you know..the polite Joran) or do you think Paulus just picked her out at the Hoiday Inn Casino and Joran (the pimp) delivered her with the help of the cabbies to him?
Posted by: boywonder | Dec 10, 2005 9:00:14 AM
If Natalee is in the States, and has been watching all this on TV. Then it would make sense to send a letter to Joran's Dad. (She may feel bad that Joran was in prison on the count of her...)

I believe it was just made public recently, doesn't mean he waited this long to "turn it over". The Arubans and Dutch seem to have a bit more respect for evidence and discretion than others.

The sudden appearance of this letter suggests that a trial is imminent, although I cannot begin to guess who will become the unlucky perp in this case.
The letter is designed to create reasonable doubt in a kangaroo court.

Will some of you people wake up and quit blaming Beth.
Damn, one of you want to be on the jury to jail her without proof. Is there a difference between you and them, I THINK NOT. You are a nut.
Joran van der Sloot: One day, I will explain exactly what happened, but, right now, I don’t feel ready to do that.

Now that Dompig has sent the letter to Holland, the results will probably come back immediately claiming it has Natalee's DNA. Another cover-up. All other evidence that has been tested by that lab has been tested in the slowest manner possible. All the testing has been negative or "tampered with". Now, I'll betcha the letter comes back positive. Pretty slick eh??? The 4 perverts could have planned this letter out in the very beginning. Remember, Paulos is a very savy lawyer. (No body no crime). Anyone could have forced Natalee to touch the letter and/or type the letter. They need to find out the serial numbers of the typewriter or computer and trace it to the owners through the purchasing of it, and/or through the maintenance of it. And, the only reason Paulos claims the letter was sent to him, is because if it was sent to Aruba's police, it would probably be lost or thrown away. Paulos wanted to make sure the letter got to the authorities. So, he has his buddy deliver it for him. Thereby having 2 people validating its authenticity. SLICK!!!

any comments on the globe nh grave report?
Posted by: texas05 | Saturday, December 10, 2005 at 07:35 PM
tazman you should be a detective. Actually what your saying makes sense in some evil kind of way. Thank God there are a few people left that think the three boys and their father had something to do with her disapperance. I am tired of hearing people bash her mother for just trying everything under the sun to get their daughter back. Some people are mad at Beth because she has not let this case die down. Until this case another girl named Amy Bradley went missing near Aruba almost 15 years ago and most people had never heard of her before. I think Beth knew if she didnt raise hell her daughter would be another missing girl
Posted by: brent | Saturday, December 10, 2005 at 09:04 PM
tazman - you're so right man. It's the first thing I thought of. Who on earth is going to trust any result that comes out of that Holland lab now?
Of course it's all a sick joke. Whatever people think of Beth and Jug why would Natalee put her father, siblings, aunts, uncles and friends etc. through this hell? Their lives are in limbo until they get an answer. If N wanted to get away from her homelife she could have moved back with Dave and Robin.
It's quite obvious that Dave is devastated and while some may not like how Beth comes across in the media, to me she seems like a mother just trying to literally tear her way through the ether to get some answers.
Why would the Twitty's/Mansurs allow themselves to be so exposed if there was some illegal activities going on in their backgrounds? Goodness, people, even the White House, can't keep this many secrets.
Are people forgetting how happy N looked in her graduation photos? She looked like a healthy, happy young woman in all her pics, not like someone planning to run off penniless and start a new life with some bozo somewhere.

I was wondering when people started doubting the Dutch Forensic Institute. So possible new information about Natalee has come to our attention. This information might clear the names of the Kalpoes and the Van der Sloots. But before any institute can publish their result, some people find it necessary to slander a well respected Institute! What are you afraid of?
Accoriding to the information we now have, Natalee supposedly sent three letters. One to Paulus, one to the FBI and one to her mother Beth Twitty.
If the letter is to be found authentic by the Dutch Forensic Institute, then the FBI can agree or disagree. We'll see!
Some have asked why Natalee would have send a letter to Paulus van der Sloot. Maybe se wanted to contact Joran, we don't know where he lives in Holland, but his home address in Aruba is easy to find. Maybe she wrote to apologize and expolain her situation. Which makes good sense, because if she is a runaway then she has put a lot of people in a difficult situation.
It also explains why she wrote a letter to the FBI. She is not listed as missing on the FBI site, so maybe the Feds know more.
I can also imagine why Beth dismissed the letter as a fake. She is in a state of mind in which she holds Joran responsible for whatever happened to Joran. She probably thinks that the letter is written by some sicko and I can't blame her for that. The letter hasn't been proven authentic yet and it is a well known fact that in a lot of cases sicko's start to write letters in the name of victims or claim to have killed victims (these claims go from JFK to Laci Peterson).
Now lets assume that Natalee did run away. Why did she just simply go to her father. Maybe she thought her father would take her on, maybe she hates Robin's guts, all possible! Maybe she already had asked to be with her father, but wasn't allowed to by Beth! Maybe it has nothing to do with her family, she could have met a guy who is in total charge of her. Maybe the whole trip J2K took with Natalee was just a smoke screen, they could have just given her a lift to another friend of theirs, the guy Natalee is with now! I am fully aware that this is just speculation, but these are not "UFO" stories, it happens all around the world.
I looked a the graduation pictures of Natalee. I don't see happy smiles, I see possing smiles. Models and Actresses do this everyday, they can be sad or angry, but as soon as they pose for a picture they are able to flash a smile. I have pictures of myself smiling, but at the time those pictures were taken I had nothing to smile about. It is just a Pavlovian reaction, if your picture is taken, you're supposed to smile!
Well, again, these ar my two cents....
Posted by: Also_Dutch | Sunday, December 11, 2005 at 07:39 AM
Some interesting observations there 'Also Dutch'. However, regarding the letter, I think if it is really from Natalee, then one of the most important ways of Natalee proving that would have been for her to have handwritten it. If Beth had seen that, surely she would have immediately recognised Natalee's handwriting, and even if she was not sure it really was from her, she would have handed it over to the experts to find out. Why no mention of it from her, though she mentions a phone call that might just have had a chance of being from Natalee. If it does turn out to really be from Natalee, perhaps we will see her home for Christmas!! and a lot of red faces all around!!!
Posted by: annie | Sunday, December 11, 2005 at 10:07 AM
Or maybe the Van der sloot's are holding her hostage and have her drugged and made her write this letter. Why would Natalee send Paulus a letter? Where did she get his Holland Address from or the address in Aruba. I think it is more bull just to get the attention off the real investgation that is going on, cause they are not getting nowhere. Maybe Paulus thinks everyone will believe this story and drop the investgation and they can live happily ever after, I think not!!!!!

note: if natalee is still alive & did write this letter, why doesn't she just come home or ask for help to come. better yet , tell her family or fbi where she is. i personally dont think she was killed . 3 guys , one of them would
talk if he knew who killed her . there is no loyalty between vander sloot & kalpoa brothers.
i think she took off & maybe got in over her head with this whole thing. i dont think the 3 suspects had the balls to kill her. she is out there some where. sooner or later someone will see her or she will come forward. think about it , she just vanished .....thats planned in my mind.
